Seantrel Henderson (Buffalo Bills)

Cretin-Derham Hall lineman Seantrel Henderson will name his college choice on Feb. 3

Seantrel Henderson's final college decision will be made in the bright lights of New York.

Cretin-Derham Hall's standout offensive lineman will announce his college choice among eight schools on Feb. 3, the first day of the national signing period, his father told the Pioneer Press on Monday.

Henderson, the 6-foot-8, 338-pound All-American who is rated the nation's top college football recruit, will announce his choice on Tom Lemming's television show on CBS College Sports. Lemming, based in Chicago, is a national recruiting expert who was the first to declare Henderson the No. 1 recruit in the country when he was a sophomore.

"It feels right to do it there,'' said Sean Henderson, Seantrel's father.

Henderson still is deciding among eight colleges, according to his father. Sean Henderson said none of the eight has the edge.

Henderson took official visits to Ohio State, Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma and Southern California. He took unofficial visits to Iowa and Minnesota. Another school under serious consideration is Miami.

Sean Henderson said Southern California remains in the hunt despite Trojans coach Pete Carroll leaving to take the head coaching job with the Seattle Seahawks.

"That doesn't really taint what is going on with Seantrel's decision,'' Sean Henderson said. "All eight schools are neck and neck. The pressure is on, no doubt. It's a race against time. We could push (the decision) past Feb. 3, but we don't want to do that.''

Lemming's show will air live for five hours on the first day of the signing period. Former Tennessee coach Phil Fulmer also will be a part of the program that will air from the CBS College Sports studio in Manhattan.

"They agreed to come out more than a month ago,'' Lemming said of the Hendersons. "He was getting pulled in all different directions. This works for them. I was the first to rank him No. 1. I think they are showing some loyalty to that.''

College football: USC vacancy could help OSU land top recruit

THE COLUMBUS DISPATCH

Southern California losing charismatic coach Pete Carroll three weeks before national signing day could not have come at a worse time recruiting-wise for the Trojans.

But the timing could be right for Ohio State.

"I think it gives the Buckeyes the edge with Seantrel Henderson," longtime recruiting analyst Tom Lemming said.

Henderson, an offensive lineman from St. Paul, Minn., is the No. 1 prospect in the country, according to Rivals.com.

"I think Pete leaving will devastate the Trojans with their out-of-state recruiting," Lemming said. "It won't hurt them with the local California kids who've always wanted to go to USC, but I do think that will probably give Ohio State the edge with Seantrel right now. He was, I think, 50-50 on either Ohio State or USC before this.

"I think this gives Ohio State the lead, because with Pete going to the Seattle Seahawks, Seantrel has no reason to go to USC."

Henderson could not be reached for comment yesterday, but he indicated at the Army All-American game on Saturday that Carroll's leaving would give him pause.

"He, like a lot of the other kids who were considering USC, such as Lache Seastrunk (a blue-chip running back from Temple, Texas), they never mentioned USC to me. They would always mention Pete Carroll," Lemming said. "So he was the major impact there. That gives Ohio State the big chance to get Seantrel."

Army Bowl: West stars of the week

...
3. Seantrel Henderson
OT, 6-8/301, St. Paul (Minn.) Cretin-Derham Hall

When all was said and done, Henderson lived up to the hype. Despite showing up with a target on his back due to his top national ranking and though he took a day to get adjusted to the speed and talent surrounding him, Henderson ultimately showed why he is such a rare, coveted talent. Henderson already has an NFL body without a doubt and he is so athletic at that size. As the week progressed, he didn't give an inch in the pass game and the West usually found success in the run game behind his strong left side. He is just plain scary blocking defenders on the second level. It will be very difficult to justify any drop in ranking of such a rare prospect, even if that rank is the top spot in the country.

"It was good he came spur of the moment," the elder Henderson said. His five-star son is still considering the Irish, USC, Florida, Ohio State, Miami, Iowa and Oklahoma. "He was hired on Sunday, called me on Monday and came on Tuesday. I liked the tenacity he brought as he was trying to get this done. He was working hard and working fast. Notre Dame has always been right in our eyesight as a top player for us."
...
"We have coach Kelly coming into Notre Dame after (Charlie) Weis leaving. (USC head coach) Pete Carroll and those guys are announcing today that they're going to the Seattle Seahawks. You have the situation down there with (Florida head coach) Urban Meyer, but they've done a great with their recruiting class. Seantrel is undecided and with all the confusion, it's going to be real hard to make a sound decision. It's up in the air and anyone could possibly have a chance at it."

"It went good, it was good to meet him. He had a lot of good stuff to say. We already took our official to Notre Dame, so we pretty much know everything about the school. Other than that, he was talking about how confident they are that coach Kelly will be down there to make some changes, and have 100 percent faith he's going to do a good job and things will be different."

With Pete out of USC and Meyer a question mark in Florida... Kelly is the one man who scares me when it comes to Henderson. Kelly is an extremely personable and likeable guy who's energy and recruiting tenacity could definitely haul in Henderson/Henderson's dad (plus it's just as close as tOSU) while JT sits back and plays the, "we only want guys who have seen every other place and realize they want to be at tOSU" (which by the way I love, even though it doesn't help to pull in the overall undecided and confused recruits, like Seantrel possibly).

I'm waiting for Lane Kiffin to give a shoutout to Seantrel during his press conference tomorrow...

And then insult his community after he commits to help build further inroads. I can't imagine Kiffin helping USC here, but some recruits actually find him appealing.

Does anyone know if Henderson is/has qualified? I've heard some whispers of academic problems.

The Silver Bullet: Father & Son Perspective on OSU Sports - The Silver Bullet

Latest Update on Seantrel Henderson
01/12/20100

OT Seantrel Henderson will announce his college choice on February 3rd, the first day of the national signing period. According to his father all eight schools (Ohio State, USC, Florida, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Miami (FL), Iowa, and Minnesota) are all in the mix.

"All eight schools are neck and neck," Henderson's father insisted to the St. Paul Pioneer Press.

Even more interesting is that Seantrel has yet to become academically eligible to this point, scoring only a 17 on his ACT. He retakes the test on February 6th, with hopes to bump his score up to at least a 19.

This isn't the only site that reported these test scores in the last few days...

Powell is a beast, can't really find an argument there.

I guess if you can follow any type of ranking system for recruiting he would certainly have to be near the top and can easily make the case for being number 1.

On paper what Florida has coming in talent wise at the DL position specifically is just INSANE.
