Seantrel Henderson (Buffalo Bills)

Contract extension for Gophes football coach Tim Brewster would help recruiting
Deal for Brewster would add stability

Trying to recruit without a contract extension would have been a big crutch for Tim Brewster, especially in a year in which the nation's No. 1 recruit, Cretin-Derham Hall senior Seantrel Henderson, is on his wish list.

Helping Brewster in recruiting was one of the driving forces that led University of Minnesota athletics director Joel Maturi to speed up talks with the Gophers football coach about his future at Minnesota.

The fact that Brewster has two years remaining on a five-year deal was something competing schools were using against him and his program in recruiting.

"The other schools are telling a kid that you don't want to go there because he might get fired in two years or he might leave in two years," CBS College Sports recruiting expert Tom Lemming said. "Everything is about perception with the kids; perception that the program is getting better ? which it is ? and perception that the coach is going to stay there awhile. Tim Brewster is the main reason why those kids are coming and are interested, because he's a great recruiter."

Henderson, a five-star offensive tackle and USA Today's national offensive player of the year, said Brewster getting offered an extension gives him more confidence that the Gophers' program is building stability.

"That's a good sign," Henderson said. "Brewster is trying to be stable. It shows that this is where he wants to be, so it's a good thing for me to see. Brewster is a real good guy."

Henderson, who will play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl on Jan. 9 in San Antonio, said he is still trying to set up his final official visit for next month.
"There's a good chance that Minnesota could be my last official visit, but I'm just trying to figure out what I want to do right now," he said. "They are still in the running."

Henderson, Hicks may change view of Florida

Posted by Bill Kurelic

Florida's Urban Meyer announced on Saturday night that he would be stepping down as the Gators' coach, and then announced on Sunday that he had changed his mind and was taking an indefinite leave of absence. It would be safe to say the announcements did not help the Gators' recruiting efforts in the Midwest.

Sean Henderson, the father of Seantrel Henderson (St. Paul, Minn./Cretin-Derham) the country's No. 1 offensive tackle and the No. 4 overall prospect on the ESPNU 150, was anything but thrilled to hear about Meyer's decision on Saturday. The subsequent announcement on Sunday didn't really change anything.

"My personal opinion is that [Meyer] is in the process of a transitional move," Sean said. "I believe we are talking about closing a chapter of a dynasty with [Tim] Tebow leaving. As far as Seantrel is concerned, we have to look at it like there is a big chance [Meyer] is not going to be [at Florida]."

Sean would not rule out either Florida or Notre Dame for his son, but at this point it seems unlikely Seantrel Henderson selects either in light of the Meyer announcements and Notre Dame's firing of Charlie Weis.

Henderson has made official visits to Ohio State, USC, Florida and Notre Dame. He is still deciding between Oklahoma, Miami, Iowa and Minnesota for visit No. 5. He will announce his college choice on national signing day.

"We are going to take every second it takes to make the best decision possible," Sean said.

I think that pretty much sums it up for a lot of recruits and their families who are second guessing on Florida right now. At least the Hendersons aren't as jaded as the rest of world who think UF will be the same force they are now even next year.

One thing I will say is...

STABILITY does mean a lot to both kids and their families....

The first thing I told my players (because there had been a coaching carousel before I arrived) was that:

"No matter whether you are a senior or a freshman, I am going to be here to see you graduate. I guarantee you short of me dying, I'm not going anywhere. I am going to be your coach for the rest of your HS playing career, so we need to start getting to know each other, and figuring out how we can improve this program again."

Many of my players told me later that it meant a lot to them, because they had grown tired of coaches coming and going...

And in JT's case, he can say the same thing to Seantrel & his parents (and MEAN it)---"I will be here to see your son graduate."

JT isn't going anywhere.

Knowing that the man you are entrusting your son to when he will be hundreds of miles away from home & family will BE THERE is important to all parents. You need to be able to TRUST that your son's safety & growth will be administered by the mentor you WANT.

JT is that guy.

Hope Seantrel comes here. What a great addition he would be to our team.

Recruiting: AC100 Player of the Year
By Braden Gall
Published: December 29th, 2009

Picking a National High School Football Player of the Year is incredibly difficult. Statistics and championships vary dramatically from state to state. A 2A state title in Texas is not the same as a 2A state title in Indiana. A 2,000-yard season in New York is not the same as a 2,000-yard campaign in Florida. Not to mention that the sheer number of elite performers who are more than deserving is truly remarkable. Fourteen different Athlon Consensus 100 members won state championships and countless others played in a title game.

In order to narrow the list down a bit, Athlon Sports used a few specific criterion to evaluate these tremendous athletes. First, team success. A state championship is almost a must-have to win the award. Second, statistical success. Productivity is key. Third, raw talent. The player must be an elite, top-flight talent who is poised for greatness on the college level. Finally, only seniors were considered.

Seantrel Henderson, OL (St. Paul, Minn.) AC100 No. 1

First and foremost, Henderson is the unanimous top prospect in the nation. He is considered to be the best high school senior in the nation by most of those who evaluate talent. He plays at the highest level of competition in the state of Minnesota for a program that is no stranger to elite talent. Cretin-Derham Hall is one of the most productive high schools in the nation and 2009 was no different. Behind the massive shoulders of Henderson, CDH upset Eden Prairie 16-5 for the 5A Minnesota state championship.

Henderson has already claimed USA Today National Offensive Player of the Year honors as well as Minnesota Offensive Player of the Year honors. He is also an outstanding basketball player. At the moment, Henderson is still uncommitted with USC, Florida, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Minnesota as his finalists.

Who are the best of the best?
By Second Seasonon December 31, 2009 10:45 AM

Most of the top players in the nation are gathering in San Antonio for the annual U.S. Army All-America Bowl. Many of them have made college commitments but a few of the top 10 prospects remain undecided as the February signing date approaches. So who are the players to watch? Who are the best players in the class of 2010?

My top 10 is headed by 6-8, 330-pound offensive lineman Seantrel Henderson of St. Paul, Minn. I first rated Seantrel as the nation's No. 1 player in March of 2008 for Sports Illustrated. Now here it is, almost two years later, and he still ranks as the nation's No. 1 prospect. He has proven to be the best OL prospect to come out of the Midwest since Joe Thomas. He is the most recruited player in the country. He is visiting Iowa, Notre Dame, Minnesota, USC, Florida and Ohio State.

Henderson jumps out to you physically but has struggled a bit with the speed rush so far... Powers doesn't feel his #1 rank is in jeopardy & believes he'll adjust by game time...

Well, if he doesn't have the "speed" or quickness to keep up with the speed rush then he certainly doesn't belong in the SEC :roll2: or at USC....I guess we will take our chances and take him. Come on up to Columbus with the rest of the speed deficient Buckeyes.
