MIAMI (AP) -- Washington Redskins safety Sean Taylor died early Tuesday, a day after he was shot at home by what police say was an intruder. He was 24.
Family friend Richard Sharpstein said Taylor's father told him the news around 5:30 a.m. "His father called and said he was with Christ and he cried and thanked me," said Sharpstein, Taylor's former lawyer. "It's a tremendously sad and unnecessary event. He was a wonderful, humble, talented young man, and had a huge life in front of him. Obviously God had other plans."

Sad to hear, but color me skeptical. I'd be very, very shocked if it was just a regular home invasion. If my house got pinched in the last month, I'm getting a kick ass security system, certainly at least a gun in my br and a couple of dogs. Something smells fishy.

Well in fairness, the home invasion reported in the Wash Post article happened all of 8 days prior. With the holiday weekend I can see it being logisitically challenging to get a security system in place - let alone other barriers to entry.

The shooting came eight days after another incident was reported at Taylor's home. An intruder pried open a front window, went through drawers and a safe and left a kitchen knife on a bed, according to the police report of the Nov. 18 incident.

According to CBSSportsline.com, Sean Taylor has passed away. Condolences to his family and the Redskins team.

What a tragedy - this is absolutely horrific for his fiancee, his child, and his family. I feel for the Redskin family as well - this is devastating. My thoughts and prayers are with them.

I realize this could happen anywhere...but if one positive can come from this, I pray it be that light is shed upon Miami's awful sub-human culture. Hopefully the publicity associated with Sean Taylor's passing will give the city of Miami some incentive to clean up their city.

I guess I am looking at the recent high profile cases where Bryan Pata (former UM d-lineman) was killed, the Brandon Meriweather case last year, and now this.

Just tragic.
