scUM's starting line up.

since this will be the temporary scUM catch all thread..

For any who buy into the bullshit I am already hearing about scUM having a good defense consider this. They just played one of the two teams left in the B10 that do exactly what that defense is designed to stop, line up and run right at you. When scUM gets spread out and has to play in space is whne the real fun begins. Speaking of spreading people out and making them play in space....

They are in a bad fucking spot this week. Having to go to MSU and play a team that is an absolute match up nightmare for them in order to avoid an 0-2 start in the B10. On top of that its an old fashioned hate game, Sparty owes them one and they obviously are having offensive issues of their own. The only reason they beat MSU last year was 1) Stanton got hurt and 2) Braylon Edwards. Like I said they are in a bad fucking spot this week.

Don't forget the subclause to the 'previous records' argument.

Subclause a: The worse a given team's season has gone, the harder they will fight for redemption in the Game.

Subclause b: The loftier a given team's opponent's aspirations are, the harder that team will fight to destroy those hopes.

We don't want the weasels losing more than, say, 1 game (MSU) between now and November. They have enough talent that with that kind of motivation, well... last year's game could be repeated, but with the wrong team winning.

Of course there's also the Tressel rule, which goes thusly: Tressel owns Carr--so stop worrying so much. :)

Don't forget that the Sparties are out for blood this year, too. They're furious that they pissed away last year's game.

Let me put it this way. This is my fourth year on campus, and the first time I realized it was Weasel Week because of campus mood, rather than looking at the schedule. It's still not quite up to the level of OSU, where the entire campus has that overwhelming air of expectancy, but it's a start.

Spartan Stadium will not be a good place to be a Stinkweasel....

Thats what I meant by "Sparty owes them one" but I concour 100%. scUM couldn't be any more up against it if they tried right now and they couldn't pick a worse spot to make their stand to avoid going 2-3 (0-2).

1) Sparty is a matchup nightmare
2) Sparty is not intimidated by scUM
3) Sparty wants to spill scUM blood
4) The vulvariens have as much to worry about internally as they do about Sparty. Henne's confidence is shaken, the run game is sputtering and once they get back to a spread team that defense will get shredded again. Best of all it appears Carr has zero ability to motivate that team...they are a bunch of walking zombies with a few temper tantrums thrown in.

This game will be huge imo because if they lose it appears from watching the body language on TV Carr could lose that team all together and it's going to take everything they have not to lose.

All that said if there's a psycho nut job team in America that could somehow fuck up this perfect situation and not finish the deal and put scUM away...its Sparty.

I watched the game and man I saw Burgess get destroyed I don't know how many times. I made it a point to watch him and man it was ugly.

I think their best players on defense are the middle lb Harris, Woodley, and Watson, but when teams run outside he is a non factor.

Other than that it is pretty bad to watch.

Michigan State will kill Michigan, no doubt.

Mark it down, Im not sold on Michigan State to win the Big 10, but all you need is a decent offense to beat Michigan and they have that. If John L. Smith has his team ready to play, which for once shouldnt be a problem, all they have to remember is the joke of an ending they had last year.

Serious meltdown in the land of sCUM
The funniest thing in that thread was the suggestion that UM has USC level talent but gets Northwestern level results. Sorry, but UM doesn't even have Northwestern level talent. The defensive ineptitude has been a trend for them since 1998. I'm racking my brain to think of a stand-out defensive player that UM has had in the last 8-10 years and the only name I can think of is Woodson. Every other defensive name has been routinely overrated.

Oh well ... gotta go. Shazor's on my porch and wants money for the pizza.

The local press michigan homer is very worried. His main point, which I agree with, is how poorly michigan has done against mobile QB's. Carr knew Wisky was going to run on the QB keeper last night to win the game and they still could not stop him. Now, Stucco is nowhere near the mobile QB michigan will face with NW, MSU, Penn and OSU. It could be a very long season for them.

He's absolutely correct. The scary part for them is that its not a scheme or effort thing, its a talent thing.

I've said it a million times and its so clear I know its no big insight but that defense is designed and built to stop teams that run their own offense. It's a problem that stems from a fundamental flaw and will take some time to fix because recruiting has to play the main part in it.

The great thing for us is how far ahead of Carr that JT is in adapting to the way the game is played now.

the fundamental flaw is that scUM, in their arrogance, think that since 'they invented football,' everyone is still playing 'their' game... unfortunately for them (or maybe not  ), the game has evolved and literally has passed them by... unless the brain trust up there wakes up and realizes that it's not 1984 any more, and that virtually every team they play has some degree of talent due to the scholarship limits, they will continue to struggle... scUM has gotten by on talent alone for quite a while now, but, much as happened in Lincoln, NE, that just won't cut it in today's game... they are, simply put, a dinosaur, and they better start adapting, and fast ...

now, with all that being said, as much as i am cognizant of the fact that the greatest rivalry in sports is due to the tradition and continued excellence of both parties, it would absolutely THRILL MY SOUL to watch them crumble into mediocrity and general ineptitude... i would like nothing more than to watch as Ohio State continues to move into the highest reaches of the upper strata of College Football, while watching them fall as they lose to Ohio State again and again and again and again and again... fuck them. if they lost every game from here to eternity, i would celebrate each and every loss... i would LOVE to be able to walk in any public place and not see some nipple head who can't even name their starting QB wearing scUM gear... i hope their wheels completely fall off... as for ending their bowl streak? oh yeah! that thought is as good as porn!

Go Bucks. Fuck M*ch*g*n!

As much as I LOVE seeing Michigan lose...especially this year...I don't think I want to see them turn mediocre on us. Part of the thrill of the rivalry game is to see two excellent teams duke it out on the field. Yes I want to win it every year, but I'm afraid if scUM were to crumble totally then something is lost in that rivalry.

That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing them lose a few more games this year at least

"Our goal is to get Llloyd Carr fired"
I remember back in the 90's, some scUM player said it was thier goal to get coop fired. They musnt have heard the old phrase, BE CAREFUL WHAT YOU WISH FOR, YOU JUST MIGHT GET IT!

scUM won't turn mediocre...they are scUM. They'll have great seasons in the future...until their last game in November of course...but I wouldn't mind seeing them miss a bowl game this year. I mean...they have a lot of streaks going. Winning seasons, bowl apperences, they had that top 25 streak. Here's to scUM being 5-5 going into The Game! That'd put a little extra reward into winning that game, don't ya think?
