Researching the Magic!
$77 is overpaying, I got in for $44.95. Too bad that special deal is over, because I'm considering not renewing.

ElevenWarriors has it all over Scout. Nevada's insider stuff was all they really had to set them apart. I like Bill Greene, but he rarely provides anything you can't find on the free sites, here included.lol, so apparently for whatever reason Scout didn't renew NevadaBuck's contract so there is now a mass exodus from the site
reallly funny to read

It's hard to imagine what they are thinking by letting Nevadabuck go. Perhaps that it's not worth keeping him since his info is shared on non-premium channels immediately?Premium networks need to rethink their business model in the era of Twitter. It's not helped by Urban's open-door "for the students" custodian policy around the WHAC, or the fact that all the recruiting info breaks at open camps like FNL and The Opening.

Still, it seems like he will bring quite a few eyes to wherever he goes next.
It will be interesting to see if they crash and burn over this. I still remember canceling with TWC over BTN back in the day. It gives you a nice sense of satisfaction when a group of people are able to punish bad corporate decisions with their wallets.highly entertaining reading all the people posting about how they called to cancel, and the rep on the line sighing once he figures out they're from the Ohio State board
This is on Scout. They're trying to dump expenses onto local websites and that money doesn't just magically appear. "But you'll lose even more" is a fun argument that still doesn't invent money. It's hard to imagine what they are thinking by letting Nevadabuck go. I agree that is very backwards but it seems to be how they are approaching a lot of things.I read speculation regarding a shift in focus to video based content and the accompanying ad revenue those views will generate. This makes sense but it seems like a losing battle given how inept Scout has been technology wise and the intense competition (and free content) in that area.
I agree with all of this (including how enjoyable it is to me as a reader).I like 11W. Their film room stuff is great. They only dabble in news though. A good bit of what they report is still second-hand though, and much of their primary content is clickbati, snark, hype or re-packaged info. They're good at it and I enjoy reading it, but when I want news Scout is the place I look to.
With the new ownership at The Dispatch, I'm curious if they will realize what a cash cow Ohio State football can be for them.To be crystal clear, I have zero insight into the decision making process nor inside information.
The simplest thing would be to bring Bill back and encourage him to resume part of his old role. I doubt they do that, so if it were me, I'd hire Birm as my lead analyst and Teddy as a board mod and aggregator.
- The "but we get better stuff from 11w" would end completely. The other guys do a great job there but it's Birm that takes it from 'nice blog' to 'gold mine' of Buckeye info.
- Birm is a good journalist that would be a worthy hire for the BSB paper.
- Birm is a good insider with rumblings and nuggets that are certainly on par with the volume that Nevada has handed out in the last year or so.
- He's also a much more agreeable personality for the board.
Nevada has had great intel for many years but should have never been left in the position to moderate, let alone be the entire "admin" level of moderation over there. It led to a ton of disagreements and bans which would have been better handled by a third party. We do the same thing here when we can, reaching out to other mods that aren't emotionally invested and have them provide feedback or assign the infractions. This is on Scout. They're trying to dump expenses onto local websites and that money doesn't just magically appear. "But you'll lose even more" is a fun argument that still doesn't invent money.
I have no idea what Nevada wanted but I imagine it wasn't cheap, especially after openly posturing and leveraging his exit a half year before the contract ended. He certainly is worth a big premium but this was a no win situation, especially once the standoff was taken public to maximize transfers and the bonuses tied to that.

This is generally why I stopped blogging.I agree with all of this (including how enjoyable it is to me as a reader).
The clickbait thing is fascinating though. People LOVE it, and don't care if they've read the same quotes and DB competition breakdown article 2-4 times before that offseason. It's what they're interested in and it sparks an open dialogue, so people eat it up.
BSB started doing some similar stuff (not as much clickbait as rehashing info daily), and they got a lot more discussions than actual articles.
Even Bill does this sometimes when breaking down different positions in an article. I think Bill's the best in the business and his combo of intel and analysis is stellar, but sometimes he'll break down a unit with insight that was largely available in his winter breakdown. But because of the source and how it's packaged, people eat it up.
I think that is the real thing to analyze as a media outlet. Not whether or not you could or should hire Nevada, which was never going to work out, but looking at how people digest information these days.
