Scottie Scheffler's arraignment date for arrest at PGA Championship delayed

Scheffler's lawyer has a conflict in schedule, forcing the delay

Scottie Scheffler’s arraignment following his arrest prior to the second round of the PGA Championship has been pushed from Tuesday to June 3.

Steve Romines, Scheffler’s attorney, told ESPN that his client will be pleading not guilty to the multiple charges that stemmed from what the golfer called a "big misunderstanding" while trying to enter Valhalla Golf Club prior to his round.

A conflict in Romines’ schedule is the reason behind the delay, though Scheffler was never attending the arraignment in Louisville to begin with.

Now, the arraignment may not come based on a report from No Laying Up, which stated Sunday that a source "familiar with" the Jefferson County Prosecutors Office’s thinking said they were planning to drop charges "as of now." That could always change, but it may come to fruition.

A Louisville Metro Police Department spokesman also told ESPN that Gillis failed to activate his bodycam video during the incident involving Scheffler.

Scheffler is scheduled to participate in the Charles Schwab Challenge this week at Colonial Golf Club in Fort Worth, Texas.

Cop disciplined for bodycam being off in Scottie Scheffler case

The Louisville Metro Police Department has taken "corrective action" against the police officer who arrested world No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler last week because he didn't activate his bodycam video recorder during the incident outside the gates of Valhalla Golf Club, police Chief Jacquelyn Gwinn-Villaroel announced Thursday.

During a news conference, Gwinn-Villaroel said Det. Bryan Gillis violated the department's standard operating procedures for body-worn cameras (BWC), which states that officers are required to "maintain their BWC in a constant state of operational readiness."

"Detective Gillis did not have his body-worn camera operationally ready as required by our policy," Gwinn-Villareal said. "He was performing a law-enforcement action as defined in our policy. Further, section 4.31.7 states members will maintain their BWC in constant state of operational readiness.

"Detective Gillis should have turned on his body-worn camera but did not. His failure to do so is a violation of LMPD policy on uniforms and equipment."

Gwinn-Villaroel said that Gillis was counseled by his supervisor and that the violation was noted in his personnel file.

Scheffler's attorney, Steven Romines, told reporters shortly after Thursday's news conference that his client wasn't interested in a plea deal. He previously told ESPN that Scheffler would plead not guilty.

"Our position is the same as it was last Friday," Romines said. "Scottie Scheffler didn't do anything wrong. We're not interested in settling the case; we will either try it or it'll be dismissed. It's very simple. All the evidence that continues to come out just continues to support what Scottie said all along: This was a chaotic situation and miscommunication, and he didn't do anything wrong."

An arraignment is scheduled for 9 a.m. ET on June 3.

How they can say he didn’t do anything wrong cracks me up. Yes, it may have been chaotic, but when a police offer tells you to stop as you illegally attempt to go around an accident and you keep going that’s one issue. Dragging the cop along for a ride is another issue. If he was a normal Joe his ass would’ve been hauled away and he would’ve sat in jail.

Is that what happened? I've read very very little, because it's so stupid, but I think I remember reading the cop jumped on the hood which caused him to immediately stop.

I’ve barely followed because I share your sentiment. Don’t care too much, but the little I’ve looked into it, to me it seems like an asshole golfer who thinks he’s above the law bumped heads with an asshole cop who thinks he above the law.

Ok? Since your post I have now seen video evidence that proves the dragged by the car story is made up. Him being a tool or not doesn't change that.
I saw new video today that shows the cop basically running into the side of the car after it had passed him, but I think they said that was supposed to have been after the other contact. So I don’t know what to believe. It would have been good if the cop had his body cam going like he should have.

Since they didn’t drop the charges yet, I’m thinking that the Louisville PD is hoping to get him to plead guilty to something like ‘failure to obey an officer’, which seems likely to have occurred. I don’t think he committed felony assault.

Louisville police officer Bryan Gillis - who arrested Scottie Scheffler - was once 'suspended for doing donuts in a parking lot with an intoxicated civilian'

The Louisville Metro Police officer who arrested golf superstar Scottie Scheffler is facing further scrutiny as a report reveals he was once suspended for doing donuts in his police cruiser with a drunk civilian.

As revealed by local station WDRB's Jason Riley, Louisville Police Det. Bryan Gillis has faced departmental discipline for several incidents, including one five-day suspension in 2013 for driving recklessly in a 'non-emergency situation.'

Gillis was specifically accused of driving an 'intoxicated civilian' in his 'police vehicle' and doing 'donuts' in a business parking lot.'

Riley also reports that Gillis was disciplined for wrecking his vehicle and missing court appearances on separate occasions. Previously it was reported that Gillis also works as a collision investigator for attorneys and insurance companies.

Just sayin': There are some good posts about Gillis and his ruined $80 trousers from being dragged, etc.:

I don’t know, going around an accident is wrong to begin with. Is he special? Does he have traffic rights others don’t and he doesn’t have to obey traffic laws?

What would happen to one of us if we had done what he did? No one would give 2 shits if this was one of us and there would be no question around the charges.

I love the cop is an asshole so that makes Scheffler innocent argument I see being promoted.

Cop can be an asshole and Scheffler can be guilty of violating traffic laws.
