No teams dropped out of the National Football Top 25, but former No. 4 Bellevue (Wash.) slipped to No. 25 after it lost to unranked Issaquah (Wash.).

Rankings as of Oct. 31, 2005

1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (8-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated Trabuco Hills, 54-14.
Notes: Senior quarterback R.J. Toman completed 13-of-18 passes for 181 yards and three touchdowns, including two to senior fullback Chane Moline, who added two rushing touchdowns.

2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (9-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated Osceola, 56-0.
Notes: Lakeland clinched its 17th district title by crushing Osceola. Junior fullback Jamar Taylor ran for three touchdowns, senior quarterback Billy Lowe completed 6-of-8 passes for 109 yards and a touchdown and ran for 69 yards on three carries and junior wide receiver Paul Wilson caught five passes for 94 yards and a touchdown.

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (9-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Grapevine, 28-23.
Notes: Grapevine trailed Carroll, 28-23, with 1:05 remaining and was on the Dragons’ 16-yard line. However, Carroll cornerback Anthony Ford halted the upset bid by intercepting Steven Headley to preserve the win and extend Carroll’s winning streak to 25 games.

4. Longview (Longview, Texas) – (9-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated North Mesquite, 21-14.
Notes: The Lobos remained undefeated with a narrow victory over North Mesquite. Quarterback Carlin Freeman threw three touchdown passes, including a 46-yard scoring strike to Chris Ivory in the third quarter that proved to be the game winner.

5. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (9-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated South Mecklenburg, 41-6.
Notes: Quarterback Darryl McFadden threw three touchdown passes to RaDon Ingram as the Patriots won their 86th straight game.

6. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (10-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Mauldin, 51-0.
Notes: Byrnes used its passing game to dominate Mauldin. Willy Korn threw for 316 yards and four touchdowns and fellow quarterback Daniel Barton tossed three touchdown passes. James Anderson hauled in seven receptions for 176 yards and two touchdowns.

7. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (9-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Fort Smith Northside, 52-0.
Notes: Damian Williams and Matt Clinkscales each scored three touchdowns to lead Springdale to its second straight AAAAA-West Conference title.

8. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (8-0) *9
Last Game: Did not play.
Notes: Landstown will play Green Run on Nov. 4.

9. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (9-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Mesquite, 21-0.
Notes: Senior running back Cody Engelbrecht scored two touchdowns and senior quarterback Colby Harris threw for 155 yards and ran for 81 yards.

10. Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) – (10-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated Cleveland JFK, 63-6.
Notes: The Tarblooders capped an undefeated regular season by capturing their ninth straight Senate Athletic League title. Bruce Frieson ran for 213 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries, Arvell Nelson threw for 155 yards and four touchdowns and Daven Jones had 115 receiving yards and three touchdowns. Glenville opens against Euclid in the Division I Region 1 playoffs.

11. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (9-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Cumberland Valley, 22-7.
Notes: Sophomore Mike Jones ran for 162 yards on 19 carries, while junior Dave Onorato ran for 121 yards on 13 attempts.

12. Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.) – (10-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated Rich Central, 72-22, in the first round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
Notes: After crushing Rich Central, the Hilltoppers will take on Batavia in the second round on Nov. 4.

13. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (8-0) *14
Last Game: Defeated Texas City, 28-7.
Notes: L.J. Castile ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns and threw for another score as La Marque remained undefeated.

14. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (9-0) *15
Last Game: Defeated The Woodlands, 42-17.
Notes: Mandela Roberts and Leonard Hewitt each returned interceptions for touchdowns and Jamie Harris brought back a fumble for a score to key Lufkin’s win.

15. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (10-1) *16
Last Game: Defeated Lawrence Central, 59-17, in the Sectional 5 semifinals.
Notes: Warren Central will now take on Lawrence North in the Sectional 5 championship. Lawrence North handed the Warriors their only loss this season.

16. Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (9-0) *17
Last Game: Defeated Cooper, 40-0.
Notes: Quarterback Taylor Potts threw for 298 yards and three touchdowns and wideout Lyle Leong Jr. caught four passes for 166 yards and a touchdown.

17. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (10-0) *18
Last Game: Defeated Moeller, 31-7.
Notes: Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 176 yards and two touchdowns to lead St. Xavier, which takes on Fairfield in the first round of the Division I Region 4 playoffs.

18. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (7-0) *19
Last Game: Defeated Loyola, 14-0.
Notes: Senior running back Sean Price ran for 158 yards and a touchdown on 33 carries.

19. Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.) – (10-0) *20
Last Game: Defeated Bradwell Institute, 48-22.
Notes: The Wildcats capped an unbeaten regular season with a win over Bradwell Institute.

20. St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (8-1) *21
Last Game: Defeated North Catholic, 35-0.
Notes: Senior fullback Ryan Bradley scored three touchdowns to lead the Hawks.

21. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (10-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated Thornton, 38-21, in the first round of the Class 8A state playoffs.
Notes: The Griffins overcame a 21-16 third-quarter deficit. Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp threw for 217 yards and a touchdown. East will play Lincoln-Way Central in the second round on Nov. 5.

22. Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (10-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Oakland, 42-7.
Notes: Seniors Gaston Miller and Antwaun Smith each scored three touchdowns as Riverdale won its 25th consecutive game and 70th consecutive region/district regular-season game.

23. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (7-0) *24
Last Game: Defeated Beaumont West Brook, 42-14.
Notes: Senior running back Terrance Sweeney ran for 259 yards and two touchdowns on 25 carries and senior quarterback Pierre Beasley ran for two touchdowns and threw for another score.

24. Neshaminy (Langhorne, Pa.) – (8-1) *25
Last Game: Defeated Bensalem, 45-7.
Notes: Senior running back Jarred Kinney ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns and has now run for 1,279 yards and 15 touchdowns.

25. Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) – (7-1) *4
Last Game: Lost to Issaquah, 31-28.
Notes: Bellevue had its 30-game winning streak snapped by Issaquah. Ironically, Issaquah was the last team to beat Bellevue, which occurred on Sept. 25, 2003. Issaquah’s Bryan Jones completed 11-of-17 passes for 127 yards and a touchdown. Bellevue quarterback Eric Block ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns in the loss. The Wolverines remain in the Top 25 because they were without their leading rushers, Thomas Zaffino and Anthony McQueen, for most of the game. Zaffino played only one quarter with an ankle injury and McQueen didn’t play.

Everything remains the same in this week’s National Top 25 as every team won this past week, including No. 22 Riverdale (Tenn.), which won its 26th consecutive game.

Rankings as of Nov. 7, 2005

1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (9-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated El Toro, 48-7.
Notes: The Diablos close the regular season at San Clemente on Nov. 10.

2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (10-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated Lakeland Kathleen, 42-14.
Notes: Junior running back Chris Rainey ran for 306 yards and four touchdowns on 16 carries as the Dreadnaughts finished the regular season undefeated.

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (10-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Richland, 49-0.
Notes: The Dragons closed the regular season with a shutout win over Richland. Senior quarterback Greg McElroy threw two touchdowns and ran for another two scores. Carroll will take on Irving MacArthur (9-1) in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.

4. Longview (Longview, Texas) – (10-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated John Tyler, 42-13.
Notes: Longview captured the District 12-5A title with its win over John Tyler. It’s the second consecutive district title for the Lobos, who won their 20th consecutive regular season game. Longview will play South Garland in the Class 5A Division I bi-district round on Nov. 12.

5. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (10-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated Butler, 41-31.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Hakeem Nicks caught six passes for 262 yards and three touchdowns and junior quarterback Darryl McFadden completed 13-of-21 passes for 363 yards and three touchdowns as the Patriots won their 87th consecutive game. Independence will play Weddington in the first round of the Class 4AA state playoffs on Nov. 11.

6. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (11-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Boiling Springs, 56-7.
Notes: Junior quarterback Willy Korn threw for 268 yards and four touchdowns and senior Prince Miller had a 91-yard punt return for a touchdown. Byrnes will play Laurens in the first round of the Class 4A Division II state playoffs on Nov. 11.

7. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (10-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Rogers, 54-7.
Notes: Matt Clinkscales scored three touchdowns and Damian Williams returned the opening kickoff 98 yards for a touchdown as Springdale rolled. The Bulldogs will play Jacksonville in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.

8. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (9-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Green Run, 70-12.
Notes: Landstown crushed Green Run despite the absence of star senior wide receiver Percy Harvin, who was suspended for the game. Senior quarterback Donny Kirby and senior wide receiver Damon McDaniel picked up the slack for the offense. Kirby threw for 304 yards and four touchdowns and McDaniel caught nine passes for 193 yards and four scores.

9. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (10-0) *9
Last Game: Defeated Chandler, 42-14.
Notes: Junior wide receiver Kerry Taylor caught six passes for 103 yards and a touchdown and tossed a touchdown pass, while senior running back Cody Engelbrecht ran for 101 yards and a touchdown on 16 carries as the Huskies capped a perfect regular season.

10. Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) – (11-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Euclid, 46-0, in the Division I Region 1 quarterfinals.
Notes: Glenville will play Solon in the Region 1 semifinals on Nov. 12.

11. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (10-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated Chambersburg, 40-21.
Notes: McDevitt capped its third unbeaten regular season in school history with its win over Chambersburg. Senior wide receiver/defensive back Aaron Berry caught six passes for 147 yards and scored four touchdowns, including a 38-yard interception return for a score.

12. Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.) – (11-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Batavia, 35-19, in the second round of the Class 6A state playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Joe Benson ran for a school-record 366 yards and scored four touchdowns on 17 carries. The Hilltoppers will take on Morris (11-0) in the state quarterfinals.

13. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (9-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated Channelview, 31-0.
Notes: La Marque won the District 23-4A title with its shutout of Channelview. Junior running back Marcus Frank ran for 172 yards and a touchdown.

14. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (10-0) *14
Last Game: Defeated Klein Collins, 48-0.
Notes: Junior quarterback Jeremy Clayborn completed 7-of-8 passes for 218 yards and ran for two touchdowns as Lufkin finished the regular season undefeated.

15. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (11-1) *15
Last Game: Defeated Lawrence North, 55-3, in the Sectional 5 championship.
Notes: Warren Central got some revenge by destroying Lawrence North, which had dealt Warren Central its only loss this season. Junior fullback Darren Evans, who missed the loss to Lawrence North, ran for 245 yards and five touchdowns. The Warriors will face Decatur Central in a Class 5A Regional playoff game.

16. Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (10-0) *16
Last Game: Defeated Midland Lee, 49-27.
Notes: Abilene captured the District 3-5A title and finished the regular season undefeated for the second straight year. Senior quarterback Taylor Potts completed 20-of-27 passes for 260 yards and two touchdowns.

17. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (11-0) *17
Last Game: Defeated Fairfield, 45-0, in the first round of the Division I Region 4 playoffs.
Notes: Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 171 yards and four touchdowns on 17 carries. The Bombers will play Colerain in the semifinals on Nov. 12. St. Xavier defeated Colerain, 7-0, earlier this season. It was Colerain’s only loss.

18. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (8-0) *18
Last Game: Defeated Landon, 14-0.
Notes: Senior running back Sean Price ran for 155 yards and a touchdown on 26 carries.

19. Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.) – (11-0) *19
Last Game: Defeated Newnan, 50-0, in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Notes: Brandon West had three touchdown runs and David Coleman returned both a punt and an interception for a touchdown as the Wildcats blanked Newnan. Camden County will play Valdosta in the second round.

20. St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (9-1) *20
Last Game: Defeated Plymouth-Whitemarsh, 31-7.
Notes: Sophomore running back Jamir Livingston ran for 133 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries to lead the Hawks, who clinched the No. 1 seed in the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division playoffs.

21. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (11-0) *21
Last Game: Defeated Lincoln-Way Central, 39-9, in the second round of the Class 8A state playoffs.
Notes: Running back Andy Gerritsen had two rushing touchdowns and 129 receiving yards and cornerback Al Mau returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdowns as the Griffins cruised past rival Central. East will play Brother Rice in the state quarterfinals.

22. Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (11-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated Franklin County, 54-14, in the first round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Gaston Miller had three touchdown runs as Riverdale won its 26th consecutive game. Riverdale will face Smyrna in the second round on Nov. 11.

23. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (8-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Humble, 35-14.
Notes: The Mustangs upended Humble to win the District 22-5A title. Quarterback Pierre Beasley completed 9-of-12 passes for 244 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score and running back Dwayne Stewart ran for 146 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries.

24. Neshaminy (Langhorne, Pa.) – (9-1) *24
Last Game: Defeated Pennsbury, 35-14.
Notes: Quarterback Andrew Flogel tossed two touchdown passes and ran for another scored as Neshaminy clinched the Suburban One League National Conference title.

25. Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) – (8-1) *25
Last Game: Defeated Newport, 38-0.
Notes: Bellevue bounced back from its loss to Issaquah in a big way by crushing Newport. Senior running back Keith Rosenberg scored two touchdowns and junior quarterback Eric Block ran for 132 yards on four carries. The Wolverines gained 313 yards on the ground and held Newport to 98 rushing yards.

Jamie Cumbie leads No. 20 Morris (Ill.)

The National Top 25 has a major shakeup as two top teams fell this past week and dropped out of the rankings. Former No. 4 Longview (Texas) lost in its first playoff game, while former No. 12 Joliet Catholic (Ill.) lost to new No. 20 Morris (Ill.) in the state quarterfinals.

Rankings as of Nov. 14, 2005

1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (10-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated San Clemente, 7-6.
Notes: Fullback Chane Moline had a 1-yard touchdown run in the first quarter and kicker Robby Bosanko booted what proved to be the game-winning extra point as the Diablos hung on against San Clemente. Mike Cook threw a 24-yard touchdown pass in the fourth to bring San Clemente within one, but Mission Viejo stopped the two-point conversion attempt.

2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (11-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated East Bay, 41-0, in the Class 5A regional quarterfinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Billy Lowe completed 12-of-19 passes for 237 yards and two touchdowns. The Dreadnaughts will play Chamberlain in the regional semifinals on Nov. 18.

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (11-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Irving MacArthur, 48-21, in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
Notes: Senior quarterback Greg McElroy passed for 278 yards and four touchdowns and ran for another score, all in the first half, to lead the Dragons. Carroll takes on Allen in the area round on Nov. 19.

Last Game: Defeated Weddington, 21-6, in the first round of the Class 4AA state playoffs.
Notes: Junior quarterback Darryl McFadden completed 13-of-22 passes for 259 yards and three touchdowns and senior wide receiver Hakeem Nicks caught six passes for 135 yards and a touchdown. Independence, which won its 88th consecutive game, will play Butler in the second round on Nov. 18.

5. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (12-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Laurens, 45-20, in the first round of the Class 4A Division II state playoffs.
Notes: Junior quarterback Willy Korn completed 20-of-31 passes for 328 yards and five touchdowns for Byrnes, which will battle York in the second round on Nov. 18.

6. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (11-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Jacksonville, 44-8, in the first round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Notes: Senior quarterback Mitch Mustain tossed five touchdowns and junior kicker Alex Tejada kicked a school-record 55-yard field goal to lead the Bulldogs, who will play Benton in the second round.

7. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (10-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Bayside, 35-21.
Notes: Landstown, which is the defending Group AAA Division 6 state champion, will play Kellam in the Eastern Region Division 6 semifinals on Nov. 18. It was originally ruled that Landstown would have to forfeit four games for using an ineligible player, but the Virginia High School League’s Executive Committee voted unanimously to overturn the decision. According to The Virginian Pilot, “Landstown appealed the forfeits because school administrators said the player, who has not been identified, used a false address on documents filed with the school.”

8. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (11-0) *9
Last Game: Defeated Basha, 27-3, in the first round of the Class 5A Division I state playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Cody Engelbrecht scored a career-high four touchdowns for Hamilton. The Huskies will play Maryvale in the second round on Nov. 18.

9. Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) – (12-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Solon, 34-14, in the Division I Region 1 semifinals.
Notes: Bruce Frieson ran for 105 yards and three touchdowns and caught two passes for 75 yards and a touchdown. Glenville will play regionally ranked St. Edward (11-0) in the Region 1 title game on Nov. 19.

10. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (12-0) *17
Last Game: Defeated Colerain, 12-9, in the Division I Region 4 semifinals.
Notes: Sophomore running back Darius Ashley caught the game-winning 20-yard touchdown pass in overtime to give the Bombers the win. St. Xavier moves up to No. 10 because it’s the second time it defeated Colerain, the defending state champs, this season. St. Xavier will take on Huber Heights Wayne in the regional championship on Nov. 19.

11. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (11-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated Central Dauphin, 33-0, in the District 3-6 AAAA quarterfinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jeremy Ricker completed 8-of-16 passes for 238 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score. McDevitt will play Hempfield in the semifinals on Nov. 19.

12. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (10-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated Bay City, 31-10, in the Class 4A Division II bi-district round.
Notes: Quarterback L.J. Castile ran for 51 yards and two touchdowns and threw for 156 yards. La Marque will play Wheatley in the area round on Nov. 19.

13. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (11-0) *14
Last Game: Defeated Killeen Harker Heights, 31-24, in overtime of the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
Notes: Clifton Kibble scored from 14 yards out to give the Panthers the win. Lufkin will take on Hayes Consolidated in the area round on Nov. 19.

14. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (12-1) *15
Last Game: Defeated Decatur Central, 42-0, in a Class 5A regional final.
Notes: Senior quarterback Dexter Taylor ran for 241 yards and two touchdowns and tossed a touchdowns pass to lead an offensive attack that gained 414 yards. The Warriors will face Avon in the semistate.

15. Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (11-0) *16
Last Game: Defeated Weatherford, 49-14, in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
Notes: Senior running back Casey Bell ran for 135 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles will match up against Lubbock Monterey in the area round on Nov. 19.

16. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (9-0) *18
Last Game: Defeated McDonogh, 28-0.
Notes: The Greyhounds captured their seventh MIAA A Conference title in nine years with their win over McDonogh. Gilman shut out five of its last six opponents and outscored them 158-7. Senior running back Sean Price ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Seniors Will Shikani and Kevin Doyle keyed the defensive effort. Shikani had two sacks and returned an interception three yards for a touchdown. Doyle had two interceptions, giving him eight for the season.

17. Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.) – (12-0) *19
Last Game: Defeated Valdosta, 16-7, in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Brandon West ran for 107 yards and two touchdowns and Camden County’s defense held Valdosta to 162 total yards and seven first downs. Camden County will play Dacula in the state quarterfinals on Nov. 18.

18. St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (9-1) *20
Last Game: Did not play.
Notes: The Hawks will play Father Judge in the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division semifinals on Nov. 18.

19. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (12-0) *21
Last Game: Defeated Brother Rice, 32-6, in the Class 8A state quarterfinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp threw for 350 yards and three touchdowns. The Griffins will battle Wheaton Warrenville South (12-0) in the state semifinals on Nov. 19.

20. Morris (Morris, Ill.) – (12-0) *NR

Senior defensive lineman/tight end Jamie Cumbie, who’s rated the nation’s No. 72 overall recruit by SchoolSports.com, caught a 9-yard touchdown pass. It was Morris’ first win over Joliet Catholic since 1923.

21. Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (12-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated Smyrna, 35-21, in the second round of the Class 5A state playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Gaston Miller ran for 244 yards and two touchdowns to lead Riverdale to its 27th straight win. The Warriors will face Cookeville in the third round on Nov. 18.

22. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (9-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Lamar, 36-12, in the Class 5A Division I bi-district round.
Notes: Running back Terrance Sweeney ran for 116 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Mustangs. Westfield will play North Shore in the regional round.

23. Neshaminy (Langhorne, Pa.) – (10-1) *24
Last Game: Defeated Plymouth-Whitemarsh, 38-0, in the first round of the District 1 AAAA playoffs.
Notes: Senior running back Jarred Kinney ran for 136 yards and two touchdowns on 14 carries and junior quarterback Andrew Flogel completed 8-of-10 passes for 173 yards and a touchdown. Neshaminy’s defense held Plymouth-Whitemarsh to 221 yards of offense en route to the shutout win. The Redskins will play Downingtown East in the district semifinals on Nov. 18.

24. Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) – (9-1) *25
Last Game: Defeated Lindbergh, 63-7, in the first round of the Class 3A state playoffs.
Notes: The Wolverines will play Prosser in the state quarterfinals.

25. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) – (10-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Chaminade, 24-17.
Notes: Notre Dame trailed Chaminade by 14 points in the second quarter, but rallied to win their 32nd straight game. Senior running back Rodney Glass scored the game-winning touchdown on a 7-yard run with 7:21 left in the game. The Knights, who have won three straight CIF Southern Section Division III titles, will face Lynwood in the first round of the Division III playoffs on Nov. 18.

Dropped Out:

No. 4 Longview (Longview, Texas) – (10-1)
Last Game: Lost to South Garland, 14-13, in the Class 5A Division II bi-district round.
Notes: The Lobos had their season ended by a South Garland team that was just 6-4 going into the game. Sophomore kicker Zack Decker missed a 21-yard field goal attempt with 46 seconds left that would have given Longview the lead.

No. 12 Joliet Catholic (Joliet, Ill.) – (11-1)
Last Game: Lost to then-unranked Morris, 28-21, in the Class 6A state quarterfinals.
Notes: The Hilltoppers had no answer for Morris senior John Dergo, who ran for 366 yards and three touchdowns. Senior Bill McKeon led Joliet Catholic with 122 rushing yards and scored two touchdowns.

Four teams dropped out of the National Top 25, including former No. 9 Glenville (Ohio), which lost to new-No. 10 St. Edward (Ohio) in the regional championship.

Rankings as of Nov. 21, 2005

1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (11-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated Saugus, 56-0, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.
Notes: The Diablos started off strong in the postseason by blanking Saugus. Brian Lockridge led the way offensively with three touchdown runs. Mission Viejo will play Chino in the second round on Nov. 25.

2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (12-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated Chamberlain, 49-0, in the Class 5A Region 2 semifinals.
Notes: The Dreadnaughts rolled past Chamberlain thanks in large part to the junior backfield of Jamar Taylor and Chris Rainey. Taylor ran for 91 yards and three touchdowns and Rainey ran for 108 yards and a touchdown and caught a touchdown pass. Lakeland’s defense forced six turnovers. Lakeland will play Lake Gibson in the regional championship on Nov. 25.

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (12-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Allen, 45-15, in the Class 5A Division II area round.
Notes: Senior quarterback Greg McElroy completed 25-of-34 passes for 355 yards and three touchdowns. Carroll’s defense held Allen to just 13 total yards in the first half. Carroll will take on No. 15 Abilene in the regional semifinals on Nov. 26.

4. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (12-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated Butler, 22-7, in the second round of the Class 4AA state playoffs.
Notes: The Independence defense limited Butler to 234 yards of offense as the Patriots won their 89th consecutive game. Independence will battle Davie in the state quarterfinals on Nov. 25.

5. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (13-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated York, 45-0, in the Class 4A Division II state quarterfinals.
Notes: Junior quarterback Willy Korn threw for 286 yards and factored in four touchdowns as Byrnes won its 23rd consecutive game. Korn tossed three touchdown passes and has a state single-season record 45 on the year. Byrnes will play Aiken in the semifinals on Nov. 25.

6. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (12-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Benton, 49-0, in the second round of the Class AAAAA state playoffs.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Damian Williams scored three touchdowns to propel Springdale to the big win. The Bulldogs will host Little Rock Catholic in the semifinals on Nov. 25.

7. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (11-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Kellem, 34-14, in the Eastern Region Division 6 semifinals.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Damon McDaniel had nine receptions for 201 yards and a touchdown. However, senior wide receiver Percy Harvin went down with a left hip injury on his 66-yard touchdown reception. Landstown, which has won 25 consecutive games, will play Oscar Smith for the region title.

8. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (12-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Maryvale, 37-8, in the Class 5A Division I state quarterfinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Colby Harris threw two touchdown passes and senior running back Cody Engelbrecht ran for 108 yards and a touchdown. The Huskies will match up against Westwood (12-0) in the semifinals on Nov. 25.

9. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (13-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Huber Heights Wayne, 42-7, in the Division I Region 4 championship.
Notes: Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 129 yards and four touchdowns as the Bombers advanced to the state semifinals, where they’ll play Hilliard Davidson on Nov. 26.

10. St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) – (12-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 9 Glenville, 17-7, in the Division I Region 1 championship.
Notes: The Eagles make their debut in the rankings all the way up at No. 10 because of their convincing victory over nationally ranked Glenville. Junior fullback Frank Edmonds ran for 151 yards and junior tailback Nate Oliver ran for 117 yards and a touchdown. St. Edward will play Massillon Washington in the state semifinals on Nov. 26.

11. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (12-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated Hempfield, 31-30, in the District 3-6 AAAA semifinals.
Notes: Alex Puskar’s 3-yard touchdown run brought Hempfield to within one, but the Black Knights decided to go for two. McDevitt linebacker Pat Berry Jr. tipped away Mike Callahan’s conversion pass to preserve the win for the Crusaders, who advance to face State College in the championship on Nov. 26.

12. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (11-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Wheatley, 51-14, in the Class 4A Division II area round.
Notes: Senior quarterback L.J. Castile ran for 124 yards and two touchdowns and threw for two touchdowns. La Marque will play Kilgore in the regional semifinals on Nov. 26.

13. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (12-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated Hays, 45-30, in the Class 5A Division II area round.
Notes: The Panthers advance to battle South Garland in the regional semifinals on Nov. 26.

14. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (13-1) *14
Last Game: Defeated Avon, 42-14, in the Class 5A semistate.
Notes: Junior fullback Darren Evans ran for 203 yards and two touchdowns and senior quarterback Dexter Taylor had 108 rushing yards and three touchdowns. The Warriors will play Hamilton Southeastern for the state championship on Nov. 26. Central has won the last two state crowns and four overall.

15. Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (12-0) *15
Last Game: Defeated Lubbock Monterey, 28-21, in overtime of the Class 5A Division II area round.
Notes: Xavier Beaver had the game-winning touchdown run and Wade Baker preserved the win with an interception. The Eagles will play No. 3 Southlake Carroll in the regional semifinals on Nov. 26.

16. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (9-0) *16
Last Game: Defeated McDonogh, 28-0.
Notes: The Greyhounds captured their seventh MIAA A Conference title in nine years with their win over McDonogh. Gilman shut out five of its last six opponents and outscored them 158-7. Senior running back Sean Price ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Seniors Will Shikani and Kevin Doyle keyed the defensive effort. Shikani had two sacks and returned an interception three yards for a touchdown. Doyle had two interceptions, giving him eight for the season.

17. St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (10-1) *18
Last Game: Defeated Father Judge, 53-9, in the Philadelphia Catholic League Red Division semifinals.
Notes: The Hawks advanced to face Cardinal O’Hara in the championship on Dec. 3. They will play La Salle on Thanksgiving.

18. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (13-0) *19
Last Game: Defeated Wheaton Warrenville South, 14-7, in the Class 8A state semifinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp completed 21-of-35 passes for 281 yards and a touchdown and ran for another score, while an interception by senior defensive back Al Mau allowed East to escape with the win. East will take on Maine South (12-1) in the state championship on Nov. 26.

19. Morris (Morris, Ill.) – (13-0) *20
Last Game: Defeated Crystal Lake South, 33-13, in the Class 6A state semifinals.
Notes: Senior running back John Dergo ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns to tie the state single-season record with 51 touchdowns on the year. He has scored a state-record total of 109 touchdowns for his career. Morris will play Normal for the state championship on Nov. 26.

20. Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (13-0) *21
Last Game: Defeated Cookeville, 28-21, in the Class 5A state quarterfinals.
Notes: The Warriors, who won their 28th consecutive game, will battle Oak Ridge in the semifinals on Nov. 25.

21. Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (10-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated North Shore, 27-14, in the Class 5A Division I Region III semifinals.
Notes: The Mustangs gained 269 yards on the ground and scored 18 points in the fourth quarter to beat North Shore. Dwayne Stewart had two touchdown runs in the fourth. Westfield will play Cypress Fairbanks in the regional final on Nov. 26.

22. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) – (11-0) *25
Last Game: Defeated Lynwood, 49-24, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs.
Notes: Notre Dame will play Muir in the second round on Nov. 25.

23. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) – (10-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Seton Hall Prep, 49-12, in the Non-Public Group 4 semifinals.
Notes: Don Bosco, which annually puts together a stellar team, enters the Top 25 for the first time this year. Junior quarterback Matt Simms, who’s the son of former New York Giants star quarterback Phil Simms and the brother of Tampa Bay Buccaneers signal-caller Chris Simms, led the way in the win over Seton Hall. Simms completed 17-of-22 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns. The Ironmen will play St. Peter’s Prep in the championship game on Dec. 2.

24. Brookwood (Brookwood, Ga.) – (13-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Starr’s Mill, 28-19, in the Class AAAAA state quarterfinals.
Notes: Brookwood debuts in the Top 25 after its close win over Starr’s Mill kept it undefeated in Georgia’s top classification. Senior running back Cameron Smith ran for 135 yards and two touchdowns on 32 carries. The Broncos will play Dacula (12-1) in the state semifinals on Nov. 26. Dacula lost its only game to Brookwood this year and defeated then-No. 17 Camden County in the quarterfinals this past week.

25. St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.) – (11-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Oxnard, 41-7, in the first round of the CIF Southern Section Division IV playoffs.
Notes: St. Bonaventure earns a spot in the rankings after winning its 21st straight game and 92nd in the last 95. Tailback Michael Lee led the way in the win over Oxnard by rushing for 194 yards and four touchdowns on 20 carries. St. Bonaventure will play Newbury Park in the second round on Nov. 25.

Dropped Out:

No. 9 Glenville (Cleveland, Ohio) – (12-1)
Last Game: Lost to new-No. 10 St. Edward, 17-7, in the Division I Region 1 championship.
Notes: The Tarblooders had their season ended by St. Edward. Senior quarterback Arvell Nelson threw a touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Bryant Milligan for Glenville’s only touchdown.


No. 17 Camden County (Kingsland, Ga.) – (12-1)
Last Game: Lost to Dacula, 10-7, in the Class AAAAA state quarterfinals.
Notes: David Coleman scored the lone touchdown for the Wildcats, who couldn’t muster much offense against Dacula.

No. 23 Neshaminy (Langhorne, Pa.) – (10-2)
Last Game: Lost to Downingtown East, 45-38, in the District 1 AAAA semifinals.
Notes: Downingtown East quarterback Pat Devlin scored the game-winner on a 1-yard touchdown run with 19 seconds left. Devlin, who has committed to Miami, is rated the nation’s No. 48 senior recruit by Schoolsports.com.

24. Bellevue (Bellevue, Wash.) – (9-2) *25
Last Game: Lost to Prosser, 38-35, in the Class 3A state quarterfinals.
Notes: The Wolverines’ bid for a fifth consecutive Class 3A state title came to an end against Prosser. Bellevue had no answer for Prosser junior quarterback Kellen Moore, who threw for 277 yards and six touchdowns.

Another week means more changes in the National Top 25. Four more teams lost this week, making it eight teams in the past two weeks. Meanwhile, No. 13 Warren Central (Ind.) captured its third consecutive state title, while Lincoln-Way East (Ill.) moves up to No. 14 after winning the state crown.

Rankings as of Nov. 28, 2005

1. Mission Viejo (Mission Viejo, Calif.) – (12-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated Chino, 35-12, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division II playoffs.
Notes: Senior quarterback R.J. Toman completed 8-of-10 passes for 156 yards and three touchdowns and senior running back Chane Moline ran for 169 yards and two touchdowns. The Diablos will play Hart in the semifinals on Dec. 2.

2. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (13-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated Lake Gibson, 22-8, in the Class 5A Region 2 final.
Notes: The Dreadnaughts held Lake Gibson to 106 yards of offense. Junior Chris Rainey ran for 88 yards and two touchdowns and junior Jamar Taylor rumbled for 62 yards and a score. Lakeland will play Niceville in the state semifinals on Dec. 2.

3. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (13-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 15 Abilene, 52-0, in the Class 5A Division II Region I semifinals.
Notes: In what was supposed to be a marquee matchup ended up being a one-sided affair as Carroll crushed Abilene. Carroll senior quarterback Greg McElroy completed 15-of-23 passes for 256 yards and three touchdowns and sophomore running back Tre’ Newton, the son of former Dallas Cowboys guard Nate Newton, ran for 138 yards and two touchdowns on 15 carries. Carroll will match up against Plano (13-0) in the regional final on Dec. 3.

4. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (13-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated Davie, 52-21, in the Class 4AA state quarterfinals.
Notes: Independence’s defense played a key role in the win over Davie. Zavis Padgett picked off two passes, returning one 39 yards for a touchdown. On offense, Darryl McFadden threw for 226 yards and three touchdowns. The Patriots, who won their 90th consecutive game, will play Myers Park in the state semifinals on Dec. 2.

5. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (14-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated Aiken, 42-12, in the Class 4A Division II state semifinals.
Notes: Senior Prince Miller had two touchdown receptions on offense and returned a fumble 42 yards for a score on defense. Byrnes will be playing for its fourth straight state title when it plays Richland Northeast (13-1) on Dec. 2.

6. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (13-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Little Rock Catholic, 49-14, in the Class AAAAA state semifinals.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Damian Williams scored five touchdowns to lead the Bulldogs. Williams has scored eight touchdowns in the past two games. Springdale will battle West Memphis for the state crown on Dec. 3.

7. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (12-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated Oscar Smith, 20-13, in the Eastern Region Division 6 championship.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Percy Harvin ran for 144 yards and two touchdowns and caught five passes for 52 yards. The Eagles will play C.D. Hylton in the Group AAA Division 6 semifinals on Dec. 3.

8. Hamilton (Chandler, Ariz.) – (13-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Westwood, 42-14, in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals.
Notes: Senior running back Cody Engelbrecht ran for 346 yards and three touchdowns on 29 carries to lead the Huskies to a big win over previously undefeated Westwood (12-1). It was an emotional game for Hamilton, which played without junior wide receiver Joe Jackson. According to The Arizona Republic, “Jackson suffered paralysis from the chest down during a helmet-to-helmet hit in practice on Monday.” Hamilton will play for its third straight state title when it takes on Brophy Prep on Dec. 3.

9. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (14-0) *9
Last Game: Defeated Hilliard Davidson, 17-10, in the Division I state semifinals.
Notes: Senior defensive back Frank Morand intercepted a Davidson pass in the end zone with 44 seconds left to clinch the win for the Bombers. Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 99 yards on 15 carries. St. Xavier will play Massillon Washington, which defeated then-No. 10 St. Edward in the other semifinal, in the state championship on Dec. 3.

10. Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (13-0) *11
Last Game: Defeated State College, 20-17, in the District 3-6 AAAA championship.
Notes: The Crusaders held off State College to advance to the PIAA Class AAAA West Championship game, where it will face McKeesport on Dec. 3.

11. La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (12-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Kilgore, 31-21, in the Class 4A Division II Region III semifinals.
Notes: L.J. Castile tossed two touchdown passes to Jared Perry to lead La Marque, which will play Brenham (13-0) in the regional final on Dec. 3.

12. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (13-0) *13
Last Game: Defeated South Garland, 25-7, in the Class 5A Division II Region II semifinals.
Notes: Junior quarterback Jeremy Clayborn completed 11-of-21 passes for 169 yards and three touchdowns. Lufkin will take on Copperas Cove (13-0) in the regional final on Dec. 2.

13. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (14-1) *14
Last Game: Defeated Hamilton Southeastern, 55-20, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: The Warriors won their third consecutive state championship. Senior quarterback Dexter Taylor ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns and junior fullback Darren Evans ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Central was led by junior safety Jerimy Finch, who had a team-high nine tackles and an interception. He also returned a punt 55 yards for a score.

14. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (14-0) *18
Last Game: Defeated Maine South, 30-24, in double overtime of the Class 8A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp scored on a 1-yard run in the second overtime to lift the Griffins to the title. Kropp also completed 19-of-38 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. Maine South trailed 21-7 in the fourth, but rallied to send the game into overtime. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime before Kropps’ heroics in the second session. East moves up to No. 14 because it capped an undefeated run in Illinois’ highest classification.

He finished his career as the state-record holder for career touchdowns (110) and career points (756). Senior defensive lineman/tight end Jamie Cumbie finished the year with 124 tackles and 24 sacks. He’s rated the nation’s No. 72 overall recruit by SchoolSports.com.

Last Game: Defeated Cy-Fair, 35-28, in the Class 5A Division I Region III final.
Notes: Trailing 28-21 after three quarters, the Mustangs scored twice in the fourth, capped by Trent Jones’ 4-yard run with 3:47 left in the game. Senior defensive back John-Michael Robertson intercepted a pass with 1:45 left to clinch the game. Westfield will play Converse Judson in the state semifinals on Dec. 3.

18. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) – (12-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated Muir, 35-10, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section Division III playoffs.
Notes: The Knights scored 28 unanswered points in the second half to upend Muir. Notre Dame will take on St. Francis in the semifinals on Dec. 2.

19. Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) – (11-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Paramus Catholic, 41-7.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Brian Callahan caught nine passes for 107 yards and three touchdowns to help Don Bosco clinch the NNJIL Division C title. Junior quarterback Matt Simms completed 24-of-36 passes for 272 yards and four touchdowns and added a touchdown run. Simms has thrown for 30 touchdowns on the season. The Bergen County record for touchdown passes thrown in a season is 32. The Ironmen will play St. Peter’s Prep in the Non-Public Group 4 final on Dec. 2.

20. Brookwood (Brookwood, Ga.) – (14-0) *24
Last Game: Defeated Dacula, 23-14, in the Class AAAAA state semifinals.
Notes: Senior running back Cameron Smith ran for 214 yards and two touchdowns on 30 carries to lead the Broncos, who will play defending state champion Lowndes in the title game on Dec. 3.

23. Highland Park (Dallas, Texas) – (13-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Ennis, 45-28, in the Class 4A Division I Region II final.
Notes:Highland Park racked up 244 rushing yards against Ennis. Senior quarterback Matthew Stafford, who’s rated the nation’s top quarterback by SchoolSports.com, ran for 101 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 222 yards and two scores. The Scots will play Stephenville (13-0) in the state semifinals on Dec. 3. Stephenville features senior quarterback Jevan Snead, who’s rated the nation’s No. 90 recruit by SchoolSports.com.

24. Ferndale (Ferndale, Wash.) – (13-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Kennedy, 41-13, in the Class 3A state semifinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jake Locker, one of the nation’s top recruits, ran for 202 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries. Ferndale takes on Prosser (13-1) for the state championship on Dec. 2.

25. Skyline (Sammamish, Wash.) – (13-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Puyallup, 54-20, in the Class 4A state semifinals.
Notes: The Spartans enter the rankings after advancing to their second consecutive state final (Skyline lost to Evergreen last year). Quarterback Jason Harris was a monster in the win over Puyallup. The senior threw for 151 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 58 yards and three more scores. Skyline will play Woodinville in the final on Dec. 3.

Dropped Out:

No. 10 St. Edward (Lakewood, Ohio) – (12-1)
Last Game: Lost to unranked Massillon Washington, 21-17, in the Division I state semifinals.
Notes: Massillon trailed, 17-7, in the fourth quarter, but scored two touchdowns with less than six minutes to play to shock St. Edward. Junior tailback Brian Gamble scored both touchdowns, including the game-winner on a 5-yard run. Massillon faced a third-and-30 on the game-winning drive, but managed to get the first down as junior quarterback Bobby Huth completed a 35-yard pass to Gamble.

No. 15 Abilene (Abilene, Texas) – (12-1)
Last Game: Lost to No. 3 Southlake Carroll, 52-0, in the Class 5A Division II Region I semifinals.

Notes: Yes, the Eagles lost to the No. 3 team in the nation, but losing by such a wide margin knocks them out of the rankings. Abilene could only muster 273 total yards, including 163 in the second half, and its defense had no answer for Carroll’s high-powered offense.

No. 17 St. Joseph’s Prep (Philadelphia, Pa.) – (10-2)
Last Game: Lost to La Salle, 14-13.
Notes: The Hawks drop out after losing to La Salle. La Salle’s Jack Forster hauled in a 10-yard touchdown reception in overtime for what proved to be the winning score. The Hawks cut the lead to 14-13 on the ensuing possession on a Chris Whitney pass to Bill Edger. But needing only the extra point to tie the game, St. Joseph’s Prep had a bad snap and couldn’t get the kick off.

No. 20 Riverdale (Murfreesboro, Tenn.) – (13-1)
Last Game: Lost to unranked Oak Ridge, 17-0, in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Notes: The Warriors had their 28-game winning streak snapped by Oak Ridge. It was the first time Riverdale had been shut out since 1993 and first time in a playoff game since 1979.

An incredible seven teams dropped out of the National Top 25, including former No. 1 Mission Viejo (Calif.), which lost to Hart in the CIF Southern Section Division II semifinals. Lakeland (Fla.) takes over the top spot after advancing to the Class 5A state championship.

Rankings as of Dec. 5, 2005

1. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (14-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated Niceville, 28-21, in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Notes: Junior running back Chris Rainey ran for 139 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries as the Dreadnaughts edged Niceville for their 29th straight win. Lakeland will play No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas for the state title on Dec. 9. Lakeland takes over the No. 1 spot after Mission Viejo lost.

2. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (14-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated Plano, 37-27, in the Class 5A Division II Region I final.
Notes: Sophomore running back Tre’ Newton ran for 143 yards and two touchdowns on 31 carries and senior quarterback Greg McElroy threw for 349 yards and two touchdowns and ran for 82 yards and a score to lead the Dragons to their 30th consecutive win. Carroll will take on No. 8 Lufkin in the state semifinals on Dec. 10.

3. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (14-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated Myers Park, 48-14, in the Class 4AA state semifinals.
Notes: Independence won its 91st consecutive game and will go for its sixth consecutive state title when it plays New Bern on Dec. 10. In the win over Myers Park, junior quarterback Darryl McFadden passed for 266 yards and two touchdowns, senior wide receiver Hakeem Nicks caught five passes for 156 yards and two scores and senior running back Cameron Henegan ran for 89 yards and three touchdowns.

4. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (15-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated Richland Northeast, 51-8, in the Class 4A Division II state championship.
Notes: The Rebels won their fourth consecutive state title. Junior quarterback Willy Korn threw for 131 yards and a touchdown and ran for 122 yards and a score. Senior Prince Miller added two touchdown runs. Byrnes is only the third school in state history to have won four straight state titles.

5. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (14-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated West Memphis, 54-20, in the Class AAAAA state championship.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Damian Williams was named the game’s MVP after he caught six passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 67 yards and a score. Senior quarterback Mitch Mustain completed 17-of-28 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns and finished as the state’s all-time single-season leader in passing yards in Class AAAAA with 3,817.

6. Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (13-0) *7
Last Game: Defeated C.D. Hylton, 25-14, in the Group AAA Division 6 state semifinals.
Notes: C.D. Hylton had a chance to knock off Landstown with five seconds left and standing at the Eagles’ 9-yard line. But Darius Reynolds’ pass was intercepted by Landstown senior wide receiver/defensive back Percy Harvin and he took it 99 yards for the score. Harvin had two interceptions in the game and caught six passes for 94 yards and a touchdown and ran for 81 yards and a touchdown. Landstown, which has won 27 straight games, will play for its second consecutive state title when it plays Oakton on Dec. 10.

7. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (15-0) *9
Last Game: Defeated Massillon Washington, 24-17, in the Division I state championship.
Notes: The Bombers won their first-ever Division I football state title. There were many stars for St. Xavier in the win over Massillon. Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 153 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries and senior quarterback Brad Scherer ran for 97 yards and tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass. Senior Brad Brookbank had a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown and junior Jon Saelinger intercepted two passes in the fourth quarter to help end a Massillon comeback bid.

8. Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (14-0) *12
Last Game: Defeated Copperas Cove, 38-28, in the Class 5A Division II Region II final.
Notes: The Panthers racked up 356 yards on the ground en route to beating Copperas Cove. Junior running back Ja’Corey Turner led the way with 168 rushing yards on 13 carries. Junior quarterback Jeremy Clayborn had to leave the game with a broken arm. Lufkin will play No. 2 Southlake Carroll in the state semifinals on Dec. 10.

9. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (14-1) *13
Last Game: Defeated Hamilton Southeastern, 55-20, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: The Warriors won their third consecutive state championship. Senior quarterback Dexter Taylor ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns and junior fullback Darren Evans ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Central was led by junior safety Jerimy Finch, who had a team-high nine tackles and an interception. He also returned a punt 55 yards for a score.

10. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (14-0) *14
Last Game: Defeated Maine South, 30-24, in double overtime of the Class 8A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp scored on a 1-yard run in the second overtime to lift the Griffins to the title. Kropp also completed 19-of-38 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. Maine South trailed 21-7 in the fourth, but rallied to send the game into overtime. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime before Kropps’ heroics in the second session.

11. Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) – (13-0) *18
Last Game: Defeated St. Francis, 28-0, in the CIF Southern Section Division III semifinals.
Notes: The Knights won their 35th consecutive game by defeating St. Francis. Notre Dame moves up to No. 11 because it’s now the top-ranked team in the West region. In the win over St. Francis, senior running back Rodney Glass ran for 156 yards and three touchdowns. The Knights will attempt to win their fourth consecutive Division III crown when they battle Dominguez on Dec. 10.

12. Gilman (Baltimore, Md.) – (9-0) *15
Last Game: Defeated McDonogh, 28-0.
Notes: The Greyhounds captured their seventh MIAA A Conference title in nine years with their win over McDonogh. Gilman shut out five of its last six opponents and outscored them 158-7. Senior running back Sean Price ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Seniors Will Shikani and Kevin Doyle keyed the defensive effort. Shikani had two sacks and returned an interception three yards for a touchdown. Doyle had two interceptions, giving him eight for the season.

13. Morris (Morris, Ill.) – (14-0) *16
Last Game: Defeated Normal, 14-9, in the Class 6A state championship.
Notes: Morris won its first state title since 1984. Senior running back John Dergo ran for 206 yards and a touchdown and finished the season with 3,010 rushing yards. This year, he set state records for touchdowns in a season (52) and points scored in a season (376). He finished his career as the state-record holder for career touchdowns (110) and career points (756). Senior defensive lineman/tight end Jamie Cumbie finished the year with 124 tackles and 24 sacks.

14. Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) – (14-1) *NR
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 20 Brookwood, 49-7, in the Class AAAAA state championship.
Notes: The Vikings crushed Brookwood en route to winning their second consecutive state title and third in the last seven years. Senior running back Lynn Williams led the offensive attack by rushing for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Lowndes defense held Brookwood to 44 rushing yards.

15. St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.) – (13-0) *21
Last Game: Defeated Rio Mesa, 28-7, in the CIF Southern Section Division IV semifinals.
Notes: The Seraphs won their 23rd consecutive game and 94th in the last 97 games. Running back Michael Lee ran for 167 yards and two touchdowns and quarterback Matt Evans completed 10-of-13 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown. The Seraphs will take on Moorpark in the finals on Dec. 9.

16. South Panola (Batesville, Miss.) – (14-0) *22
Last Game: Defeated Olive Branch, 26-0, in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Leroy Diggs ran for 187 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Tigers to their 43rd consecutive win. South Panola will try to win its third straight state title when it plays Meridian on Dec. 9.

17. Highland Park (Dallas, Texas) – (14-0) *23
Last Game: Defeated Stephenville, 41-38, in the Class 4A Division I state semifinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Matthew Stafford threw for 336 yards and four touchdowns, including a 7-yard touchdown pass to Holt Martin with 37.7 seconds left that lifted Highland Park past Stephenville. The Scots will play Marshall for the state championship on Dec. 10.

18. St. Peter’s Prep (Jersey City, N.J.) – (12-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 19 Don Bosco Prep, 22-15, in the Non-Public Group 4 championship.
Notes: Senior defensive back Andrew Booth delivered the play of the game when he intercepted Don Bosco junior Matt Simms and returned it 65 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 3:30 left to play. Senior Kee-Ayre Griffin intercepted Simms at the 4-yard line with 1:19 left to clinch the title for St. Peter’s.

19. Ferndale (Ferndale, Wash.) – (14-0) *24
Last Game: Defeated Prosser, 47-12, in the Class 3A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jake Locker, a Washington recruit, led the Golden Eagles to their first Class 3A state championship by rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns and passing for 106 yards and two scores. Adam Wilgus ran for 137 yards on 12 carries and Antoine Dudley added 118 rushing yards on 15 attempts.

Last Game: Defeated Woodinville, 35-21, in the Class 4A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jason Harris completed 19-of-24 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 66 yards and two scores as Skyline captured the state crown. Harris finished the season with 2,960 passing yards and 35 touchdowns and 785 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Notes: The Redskins won their second straight state title and third in the last four years behind the play of quarterback Casey Whorton, who completed 7-of-14 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score. Renard Johnson led the ground game by rushing for 265 yards a touchdown.

Last Game: Defeated Bradenton Manatee, 45-17, in the Class 5A state semifinals.
Notes: Quarterback Wesley Carroll completed 10-of-19 passes for 196 yards and four touchdowns to lead Aquinas. The Raiders will play No. 1 Lakeland in the state championship on Dec. 9. Lakeland defeated Aquinas, 31-7, in last year’s state title game.

23. Hoover (Hoover, Ala.) – (14-1) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Daphne, 56-14, in the Class 6A state championship.
Notes: The Buccaneers won their fourth straight state title and fifth in the last six years. Hoover became the first big school in Alabama High School Athletic Association history to win four consecutive state crowns. Junior quarterback Ross Wilson was named game MVP after he completed 15-of-29 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two scores. Senior wide receiver Cornelius Williams caught nine passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

24. Brophy Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) – (13-1) *NR
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 8 Hamilton, 15-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship.
Notes: Brophy won its first football title with a major upset win over Hamilton. Sophomore quarterback Bryan Berens led Brophy on a 17-play, 99-yard drive that was capped by his game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Matt Smith with 34 seconds left. Smith finished with eight receptions for 113 yards. Hamilton had won the last two state crowns.

25. Brockton (Brockton, Mass.) – (13-0) *NR
Last Game: Defeated Xaverian, 14-7, in Eastern Mass. Division 1 Super Bowl.
Notes: The Boxers won their second consecutive Division 1 Super Bowl crown. Brockton stuffed Xaverian four times inside the 3-yard line with under two minutes to play to preserve the win. Senior quarterback Jessy Resende had a 28-yard touchdown run and senior running back/linebacker Junior Penn added a 14-yard touchdown run.

Last Game: Lost to then-unranked Brophy Prep, 15-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship.
Notes: The Huskies had their shot at a third straight state title ended by Brophy as sophomore quarterback Bryan Berens tossed a 7-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Matt Smith with 34 seconds left. For Hamilton, Clark Lamb returned an interception 27 yards for a score and running back Cody Engelbrecht added a 1-yard touchdown run. The Huskies drop out after losing to a then-unranked team.

No. 10 Bishop McDevitt (Harrisburg, Pa.) – (13-1)
Last Game: Lost to McKeesport, 14-13, in the PIAAA Class AAAA West Championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jeremy Ricker threw two touchdown passes to senior Aaron Berry, but the Crusaders were still edged by McKeesport.

No. 11 La Marque (La Marque, Texas) – (12-1)
Last Game: Lost to Brenham, 41-31, in the Class 4A Division II Region III final.
Notes: Brenham senior Gary Ragston ran for two touchdowns and caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from junior Jarrett Lee. For La Marque, senior quarterback L.J. Castile threw two touchdown passes and ran for another score.

No. 17 Westfield (Spring, Texas) – (11-1)
Last Game: Lost to unranked Converse Judson, 17-14, in the Class 5A Division I state semifinals.
Notes: The Mustangs’ dreams for a state title were thwarted by Judson. Westfield was stymied offensively after senior quarterback Pierre Beasley left the game with an injury in the second quarter.

No. 19 Don Bosco Prep (Ramsey, N.J.) – (11-1)
Last Game: Lost to then-unranked St. Peter’s Prep, 22-15, in the Non-Public Group 4 championship.
Notes: Junior quarterback Matt Simms was held to 160 passing yards and was picked off twice in the loss to St. Peter’s.

No. 20 Brookwood (Brookwood, Ga.) – (14-1)
Last Game: Lost to then-unranked Lowndes, 49-7, in the Class AAAAA state championship.
Notes: Brookwood had no answer for Lowndes, offensively or defensively. Lowndes senior Lynn Williams had three touchdown runs, while Lowndes held Brookwood star running back Cameron Smith to just 28 rushing yards on 21 carries.

In this week’s National Top 25, No. 1 Lakeland (Fla.) defeated former No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas in the Class 5A state championship to finish the season as the nation’s top team.

1. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (15-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas, 39-10, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: The Dreadnaughts earned their second straight state title by cruising past Aquinas. It was Lakeland’s 30th consecutive win. Aquinas wasn’t able to stop Lakeland’s running game as the Dreadnaughts amassed 336 yards on the ground. Junior fullback Jamar Taylor ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns and junior tailback Chris Rainey added 112 yards and a touchdown. With the win, Lakeland finishes the season as the No. 1 team in the National Top 25.

2. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (15-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 8 Lufkin, 46-28, in the Class 5A Division II state semifinals.
Notes: Senior quarterback Greg McElroy passed for 309 yards and three touchdowns and ran for another score, while sophomore running back Tre’ Newton ran for 85 yards and two touchdowns. Senior wide receiver McKay Jacobson hauled in eight passes for 148 yards for two touchdowns. Since 2002, Carroll has gone 62-1 and has won two out of the last three state titles. The Dragons will try to make it three out of four when they take on No. 20 Katy, the only team that has defeated Carroll since 2002, in the state championship on Dec. 17.

Junior quarterback Daryl McFadden passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Cameron Henegan ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns.

Last Game: Defeated McDonogh, 28-0.
Notes: The Greyhounds captured their seventh MIAA A Conference title in nine years with their win over McDonogh. Gilman shut out five of its last six opponents and outscored them 158-7. Senior running back Sean Price ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns on 18 carries. Seniors Will Shikani and Kevin Doyle keyed the defensive effort. Shikani had two sacks and returned an interception three yards for a touchdown. Doyle had two interceptions, giving him eight for the season.

Last Game: Defeated Normal, 14-9, in the Class 6A state championship.
Notes: Morris won its first state title since 1984. Senior running back John Dergo ran for 206 yards and a touchdown and finished the season with 3,010 rushing yards. This year, he set state records for touchdowns in a season (52) and points scored in a season (376). He finished his career as the state-record holder for career touchdowns (110) and career points (756). Senior defensive lineman/tight end Jamie Cumbie finished the year with 124 tackles and 24 sacks.

Last Game: Defeated Marshall, 59-0, in the Class 4A Division I state championship.
Notes: The Scots posted the largest margin of victory ever recorded in a UIL 11-man football state championship game. Senior running back Jake Feldt ran for 132 yards and four touchdowns and caught a touchdown pass. Senior quarterback Matthew Stafford completed 10-of-18 passes for 202 yards and an interception in his last game for Highland Park. Stafford, who’s rated the nation’s No. 1 quarterback by SchoolSports.com, finished his senior season by completing 206-of-320 passes for 4,000 yards and 37 touchdowns with just six interceptions. He added seven touchdown runs.

Last Game: Defeated then-No. 19 Don Bosco Prep, 22-15, in the Non-Public Group 4 championship.
Notes: Senior defensive back Andrew Booth delivered the play of the game when he intercepted Don Bosco junior Matt Simms and returned it 65 yards for the game-winning touchdown with 3:30 left to play. Senior Kee-Ayre Griffin intercepted Simms at the 4-yard line with 1:19 left to clinch the title for St. Peter’s.

Last Game: Defeated Prosser, 47-12, in the Class 3A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jake Locker, a Washington recruit, led the Golden Eagles to their first Class 3A state championship by rushing for 138 yards and two touchdowns and passing for 106 yards and two scores. Adam Wilgus ran for 137 yards on 12 carries and Antoine Dudley added 118 rushing yards on 15 attempts.

Last Game: Defeated Woodinville, 35-21, in the Class 4A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Jason Harris completed 19-of-24 passes for 281 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 66 yards and two scores as Skyline captured the state crown. Harris finished the season with 2,960 passing yards and 35 touchdowns and 785 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns.

Notes: The Redskins won their second straight state title and third in the last four years behind the play of quarterback Casey Whorton, who completed 7-of-14 passes for 118 yards and two touchdowns and ran for another score. Renard Johnson led the ground game by rushing for 265 yards a touchdown.

Notes: The Buccaneers won their fourth straight state title and fifth in the last six years. Junior quarterback Ross Wilson was named game MVP after he completed 15-of-29 passes for 235 yards and two touchdowns and ran for two scores. Senior wide receiver Cornelius Williams caught nine passes for 153 yards and two touchdowns.

Last Game: Defeated Smithson Valley, 17-14, in the Class 5A Division II state semifinals.
Notes: Katy earned a berth in the state final with a narrow victory over Smithson Valley. Brandon King led Katy with 135 rushing yards, including a 74-yard touchdown scamper. Katy will play No. 2 Southlake Carroll for the state championship on Dec. 17.

Last Game: Defeated then-No. 11 Notre Dame, 41-14, in the CIF Southern Section Division III championship.
Notes: Dominguez snapped Notre Dame’s 35-game winning streak and ended the Knights’ bid at a fourth consecutive Division III crown. Dominguez junior running back Brandon Johnson dominated Notre Dame’s defense as he ran for a game-high 245 yards and scored four touchdowns.

Last Game: Defeated unranked Hart, 21-13, in the CIF Southern Section Division I championship.
Notes: Junior J.J. DiLuigi stopped Hart senior receiver Troy Yudin just short of a first down at the 1-yard line with 19.2 seconds remaining to propel Canyon to the Southern Section title. DiLuigi ran for 68 yards and a touchdown to finish with 43 touchdowns on the season.

Last Game: Defeated Converse Judson, 28-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship.
Notes: Trinity rallied from a 14-0 deficit to capture the state title. Senior running back Dimitri Nance ran for 158 yards and two touchdowns on 28 carries. He finished the season with 3,173 yards and 41 touchdowns on 341 carries.

24. Brophy Prep (Phoenix, Ariz.) – (13-1) *24
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 8 Hamilton, 15-14, in the Class 5A Division I state championship.
Notes: Brophy won its first football title with a major upset win over Hamilton. Sophomore quarterback Bryan Berens led Brophy on a 17-play, 99-yard drive that was capped by his game-winning 7-yard touchdown pass to senior wide receiver Matt Smith with 34 seconds left. Smith finished with eight receptions for 113 yards. Hamilton had won the last two state crowns.

25. Brockton (Brockton, Mass.) – (13-0) *25
Last Game: Defeated Xaverian, 14-7, in Eastern Mass. Division 1 Super Bowl.
Notes: The Boxers won their second consecutive Division 1 Super Bowl crown. Brockton stuffed Xaverian four times inside the 3-yard line with under two minutes to play to preserve the win. Senior quarterback Jessy Resende had a 28-yard touchdown run and senior running back/linebacker Junior Penn added a 14-yard touchdown run.

No. 6 Landstown (Virginia Beach, Va.) – (13-1)
Last Game: Lost to unranked Oakton, 28-7, in the Group AAA Division 6 state championship.
Notes: Landstown had its winning streak snapped at 27 games and its bid for a second straight state title ended by Oakton. The Eagles couldn’t contain Oakton senior running back and Virginia recruit Keith Payne, who ran for a career-high 245 yards and scored four touchdowns. Landstown senior wide receiver Percy Harvin was held to three receptions for 35 yards and 11 rushing yards. Senior running back Quinton Rainey provided Landstown’s only points on a 1-yard touchdown run.

No. 8 Lufkin (Lufkin, Texas) – (14-1)
Last Game: Lost to No. 2 Southlake Carroll, 46-28, in the Class 5A Division II state semifinals.
Notes: The Panthers were no match for Carroll’s explosive offensive attack as the Dragons racked up 352 passing yards. Lufkin junior quarterback Jeremy Clayborn missed the game due to injury. Junior Ralph Thomas filled in and tossed two touchdown passes, but threw for just 93 yards. Junior running back Ja’Corey Turner ran for 117 yards and a touchdown and junior wideout Dez Bryant caught five passes for 65 yards and two touchdowns.

No. 11 Notre Dame (Sherman Oaks, Calif.) – (13-1)
Last Game: Lost to then-unranked Dominguez, 41-14, in the CIF Southern Section Division III championship.
Notes: Dominguez put an end to Notre Dame’s attempts at a fourth consecutive Division III title and snapped the Knights’ 35-game winning streak in the process. Dominguez junior running back Brandon Johnson ran for a game-high 245 yards and scored four touchdowns.

No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) – (13-1)
Last Game: Lost to No. 1 Lakeland, 39-10, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: Aquinas turned the ball over six times and allowed Lakeland to rack up 336 yards on the ground. Quarterback Wesley Carroll threw a 1-yard touchdown pass to Leonard Hankerson for Aquinas’ only score.

No. 1 Lakeland (Fla.) is led by RB Chris Rainey

SchoolSports.com unveils its final National Football Top 25 and taking home top honors for the season is Lakeland (Fla.), which captured its second straight state title and went 15-0 for the second consecutive season. Southlake Carroll (Texas) and Independence (N.C.) follow Lakeland in the rankings.

Final 2005 Rankings

1. Lakeland (Lakeland, Fla.) – (15-0) *1
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 22 St. Thomas Aquinas, 39-10, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: The Dreadnaughts earned their second straight state title by cruising past Aquinas. It was Lakeland’s 30th consecutive win. Aquinas wasn’t able to stop Lakeland’s running game as the Dreadnaughts amassed 336 yards on the ground. Junior fullback Jamar Taylor ran for 153 yards and three touchdowns and junior tailback Chris Rainey added 112 yards and a touchdown. With the win, Lakeland finishes the season as the No. 1 team in the National Top 25.

2. Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) – (16-0) *2
Last Game: Defeated No. 20 Katy, 34-20, in the Class 5A Division II state championship.
Notes: Carroll won its third state title in four years by defeating Katy. Carroll is 63-1 over its last 64 games with its only loss coming to Katy in the 2003 state championship. In this year’s win over Katy, the Dragons were led by senior quarterback Greg McElroy, who completed 21-of-31 passes for 328 yards and four touchdowns and was named game MVP. McElroy finished the year with 56 touchdown passes, which broke the Class 5A state record for touchdowns passes in a season.

3. Independence (Charlotte, N.C.) – (15-0) *3
Last Game: Defeated New Bern, 38-19, in the Class 4AA state championship.
Notes: Independence became the first school in state history to win six consecutive state titles and stretched its winning streak to 92 games, which is the nation’s longest current winning streak. Senior wide receiver Hakeem Nicks, who has committed to North Carolina, was the star of the show. He had eight receptions for 205 yards and two touchdowns and returned three kicks for 102 yards. Junior quarterback Daryl McFadden passed for 274 yards and two touchdowns and senior running back Cameron Henegan ran for 79 yards and two touchdowns.


4. Byrnes (Duncan, S.C.) – (15-0) *4
Last Game: Defeated Richland Northeast, 51-8, in the Class 4A Division II state championship.
Notes: The Rebels won their fourth consecutive state title. Junior quarterback Willy Korn threw for 131 yards and a touchdown and ran for 122 yards and a score. Senior Prince Miller added two touchdown runs. Byrnes is only the third school in state history to have won four straight state titles.


5. Springdale (Springdale, Ark.) – (14-0) *5
Last Game: Defeated West Memphis, 54-20, in the Class AAAAA state championship.
Notes: Senior wide receiver Damian Williams was named the game’s MVP after he caught six passes for 155 yards and three touchdowns and ran for 67 yards and a score. Senior quarterback Mitch Mustain completed 17-of-28 passes for 344 yards and five touchdowns and finished as the state’s all-time single-season leader in passing yards in Class AAAAA with 3,817.


6. St. Xavier (Cincinnati, Ohio) – (15-0) *6
Last Game: Defeated Massillon Washington, 24-17, in the Division I state championship.
Notes: The Bombers won their first-ever Division I football state title. There were many stars for St. Xavier in the win over Massillon. Sophomore running back Darius Ashley ran for 153 yards and a touchdown on 27 carries and senior quarterback Brad Scherer ran for 97 yards and tossed a 16-yard touchdown pass. Senior Brad Brookbank had a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown and junior Jon Saelinger intercepted two passes in the fourth quarter to help end a Massillon comeback bid.



7. Warren Central (Indianapolis, Ind.) – (14-1) *7
Last Game: Defeated Hamilton Southeastern, 55-20, in the Class 5A state championship.
Notes: The Warriors won their third consecutive state championship. Senior quarterback Dexter Taylor ran for 158 yards and three touchdowns and junior fullback Darren Evans ran for 98 yards and two touchdowns. Defensively, Central was led by junior safety Jerimy Finch, who had a team-high nine tackles and an interception. He also returned a punt 55 yards for a score.


8. Lincoln-Way East (Frankfort, Ill.) – (14-0) *8
Last Game: Defeated Maine South, 30-24, in double overtime of the Class 8A state championship.
Notes: Senior quarterback Anthony Kropp scored on a 1-yard run in the second overtime to lift the Griffins to the title. Kropp also completed 19-of-38 passes for 230 yards and a touchdown. Maine South trailed 21-7 in the fourth, but rallied to send the game into overtime. The teams traded field goals in the first overtime before Kropps’ heroics in the second session.


9. Lowndes (Valdosta, Ga.) – (14-1) *9
Last Game: Defeated then-No. 20 Brookwood, 49-7, in the Class AAAAA state championship.
Notes: The Vikings crushed Brookwood en route to winning their second consecutive state title and third in the last seven years. Senior running back Lynn Williams led the offensive attack by rushing for 91 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, the Lowndes defense held Brookwood to 44 rushing yards.


10. St. Bonaventure (Ventura, Calif.) – (14-0) *10
Last Game: Defeated Moorpark, 27-7, in the CIF Southern Section Division IV championship.
