Scholarship Offers 2010

Very intriguing to me what this means to the other WR/DB offers out there. Which ones will the coaches continue to hold a spot for no matter who commits and which ones fall into the first-to-commit category.

How many schollies can the staff safely feel they have to offer? Milli's board shows 14 and I'm guessing they would count on at least 2-3 opening up from transfers/draft/etc. If you go with 17..

10 commits already

somewhat confident in
1 for Hagerup
1 for Bryant
1 for Hagan

gotta hold
1 for Joyner (at least this should be a fairly early decision)
1 for Hicks
2 for OL offers

That's 17 right there. Do you have to make Bryant/Hagan a first-to-commit until you hear from Joyner? If not, unless you expecting more than 17 available, do you have to ask other WR/DB's to hold off until Joyner decides? I'm just thinking out loud here.... Thoughts?

I've been thinking about exactly this. The recent James Louis commit makes this more uncertain. Agree on Joyner and Hicks. Hagan and Bryant as well. I doubt that Tyrone Williams will go elsewhere. That leaves 1 according to Mili's chart. Gibson and Heyward, are the only underclassmen that might go early. Even that, they've got to have a HUGE year to go early. None of the underclassmen are actually locks to leave. Let's assume an attrition of 2 schollies. That leaves us a total of 3 left. I hope that 2 would be OL and 1 would be Corey Brown.

I speculate there are a total of 18 schollies. I hope for the following.
Corey Brown
Lamarcus Joyner
2 OL
Jordan Hicks
Christian Bryant
Chad Hagan
Tyrone Williams

But I am willing to bet that, among Hicks and Joyner, one of them will go elsewhere. If I had to guess, I'll say Joyner at this point. And Hagerup will take his place. Again, this is all just speculation at this stage. JT could very well substitue one or two of the surprise non-commits with walk ons. I hope we sign the following. For me, the order would of importance is...

Seantrel Henderson
Lamarcus Joyner
Corey Brown
Arie Kouandjio
Christian Bryant
Tyrone Williams
Jordan Hicks
Chad Hagan

I pretty much agree with that. If I had to make one change it would be to move Kouandjio to 3rd only because I think him coming here would mean we probably get his brother next year too. I could see moving Hicks up but LB's are so loaded already.

Depth is the only reason why Hicks is that low on my list.

There is some information suggesting that Corey Brown might be a recruited as a WR. He does have the size to be one. However, he's listed as a RB and I'm going to go with that. The reason why I put Brown above Kouandjio (man, every time I spell his name, I have to check the spelling. Difficult name) was because we've been losing RB's. First we lost Devoe Torrence. This year, Carlos Hyde. And while I hope this doesn't happen, Rod Smith's offer was delayed due to academics. It'll be a HUGE blow if he doesn't qualify next year either. I pray to the powers that be, that that doesn't happen. Granted, all three were power backs and Brown is a faster back, but I see RB as a position of need, which is why Brown is above Kouandjio.
