S Vonn Bell (All B1G, All-American, National Champion, Cincinnati Bengals)

I was reading an article and Withers had mentioned Bell as an early possibility at Star this year and after rewatching his film, it makes a lot of sense. Our safeties have had a tough time playing fast but slowing down enough to get square to the ball carrier in space. Bell blows a play up at 100 mph. and goes straight through his man, no arm tackling BS we saw for the most of last year. He is excellent in coverage and would be far from a liability in that regard but if he adjusts to the speed of the game at the collegiate level (I can't foresee that being an issue), I think he could be an upgrade when we have to defend players in space. At the very least I see Bell getting plenty of PT against pass heavy teams. I'm not sure who he supplants to do it, as Powell and Pittsburgh have looked good, but he simply brings an element to our defense that nobody else does.

He'll be.......
The Eraser! He'll one day be able to erase other's mistakes.

I too think Vonn has the ideal skill set to play the star position. I know we've heard great things about some of the other guys currently competing for that spot. It would be premature for us to say that a kid who hasn't even stepped foot on campus is going to come in there and earn a starting role...But I certainly wouldn't be surprised. He's just on a different level.

Doss, Allen, Whitner, Salley, Coleman, Russell, Hines, Mitchell...

Some nightmare.

I do not know if there will ever be a Star as good as Hines was. He was big enough to take on blockers and defend the run, but athletic enough to defend the pass, especially those flare screens. There hasn't been a more impressive display of athleticism on OSU's defense the last decade than that pick 6 he had against Wisconsin in, I think it was 2007.

If Vonn Bell can be that guy, our defense will be ferocious by the end of the year.

Taos doesn't live in the same world as the rest of us and often graces us with outlandish statements.

O'Neal, Clifford, Wood, Tanner were pure safety recruits. Barnett was close.

As for the other bit of Taos ridiculousness, Whitner was a phenomenal athlete. Bryant is a very good athlete, he just isn't consistent. Coleman was a very good athlete. Hines was a very good experiment and would be a major upgrade over the inconsistency we have back there.

Thanks for bringing this into V Smooth's thread. It fits the caliber of player we are welcoming this fall. Can't WAIT to see him making these type plays. He sure seems capable.
