Tyler Moeller was one of the elite performers on Ohio State's defense thus far this year, but the Cincinnati Colerain product can't catch a break. According to multiple sources, he will miss the rest of the season with a torn pectoral muscle. We have more on this breaking story.
Multiple sources have informed Bucknuts.com that Tyler Moeller will miss the rest of the season with an injury that he suffered against Illinois on Saturday.

A source told us soon after the Buckeyes' 24-13 win in Champaign that Moeller's injury was of the season-ending variety and we reported that on our message boards.

Since then, multiple sources have confirmed that Moeller does in fact have a ?significant injury? and will likely miss the rest of the year. They are saying it?s a muscle injury (perhaps a tear) and the medical staff will perform tests when they get back to Columbus.

They haven't even tested it but this guy says it's season ending? Sure.

A pectoral tear caused a gator lineman to miss the season. Bad shit that needs surgery.

Not doubting that at all.

It's just that without an MRI and a proper diagnosis, speculation about season-ending injuries that aren't plainly obvious (McGahee's knee for instance) bugs me.

I like how you somehow found a way to mention McGahee's blown up knee injury against us into this conversation. lol. kudos!

Moeller likely headed for surgery

Barring something unexpected when his MRI results are looked at tomorrow, Ohio State safety Tyler Moeller is headed for season-ending surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle, multiple sources have told the Dispatch today.

Moeller suffered the injury on the fifth defensive snap of the game at Illinois on Saturday. Moeller was charging up toward the line of scrimmage and Illinois running back Mikel LeShoure took a handoff and ran to Moeller's left.

Moeller reached out his left arm to try and make the tackle, and LeShoure pushed past him, bending back Moeller's arm.

The MRI was conducted today, but the results were not interpreted.

Does he have a history of "naturally occuring" injuries before this one? Don't think that getting punched in the head counts as part of being "injury prone"

Never said injury prone. Im sure getting your knee shattered isn't very "natural" either, just freak accidents in the early season, for multiple seasons.

Its not a slam on the kid, both guys were workout warriors, fast and agile. They could hit lights out and were a force. But they just never were afforded the opportunities to prove their Linebacking skills because of various injuries in the early/off season.

D'Andrea never even established himself though. We've seen what Tyler can do. Mike was never on the field long enough to make an impact. Plus, the star position isn't a linebacker and thats where Moeller excels.

You're right, Moeller is undersized, but its not off to think of him as a Linebacker. He's in the star because thats what he is - an undersized LB, but a step off from safety and corner.

Again, he didn't have the go on a regular game but he looked great in the Spring Games and spring practice (similar to KG).

What does all this mean for Moeller's class status if he is done for the season?

Well, it's hard to think of a reason he wouldn't be given the 5+1=6 to play 4 plan. 5 years to play 4 is the norm... plus the appeal from the NCAA for the sixth. He'll still have to file and there are no promises. This can't make the case any more difficult for the NCAA though.
