Stupid question, but is it legal for coaches to talk to a player before they actually enter the portal?

I'll just guess it will come down to 2 factors:
1) With a new coach(es), all the transfers, and decommitments at Alabama does he think Alabama will be a legit contender in 2024 or at least in 2025. I'm guessing that he expects to be good enough to opt out for the draft in 2026.

2) Who is a legit contender for a National Championship with the best NIL deal, etc.

Honestly, we don't need him but if he comes there's no Defense close to us next year. UGA would get a big time player though so that would be another positive to stop that. Plus he has another year after this if he stays that is.

The sell has to be two fold..
1. We have perhaps 3 first round corners and return 9 on defense.
2. He will get a chance to even the score with TCUN.
Mainly need to sell him on the crazy depth we have returning next year. Which I think we return the best defense regardless.
