“They pay attention to every detail,” Downs told Lettermen Row. “Every detail that helps you play faster, to help you play smarter. It’s all about making players the best that they can be on the field and to think fast on the field. They pay attention to every inch of the field, where you’re supposed to be — and they know if you’re not.

“It’s a culture of wanting to be the best at everything. A lot of places say they want to be the best. But here, I can feel it. They’re not just saying they want to be BIA, they want to live it. They want to be the best. The best players, the best people, the best campus. It’s everywhere.”

“Man, Coach Day is just a really personable guy,” he said. “He knows how to recruit the right kind of people and he knows how to lead a team. He’s a family man, and the guys here love him. I can see why. There’s not a thing bad you can say about him.”

Just sayin': It is always a good thing when recruits have some very positive comments about the school's coaches.

One of the guys that Downs knows well at Ohio State is Jordan Hancock, a Buckeyes freshman defensive back. He helped connect the Ohio State staff with Downs when they offered him back in February. Downs is also close with fellow 2023 Georgia stars A.J. Harris, who recently visited Ohio State, and Ethan Nation, who was in town with him this week. That group talks a lot about playing together at the next level, and it’s something he hopes can play out.
“We’ve told a lot of places that we want to play together,” Caleb Downs said. “And we’re going to keep saying that. But they’ll be my brothers even if it doesn’t work out.”

Just sayin': Four highly ranked guys that play the same position talk about playing together at the same college. It's kind of surprising since they are all CBs and I'm sure they all have to realize that realistically they all can't be starters (at the same time).

I think the fact that OSU has so many CBs/DBs playing on Sundays may speak louder to recruits. Showing them that our coaches can make you ready for the professional game, and at the same time have you play in big games every year that you're in college. Even playing in a few games and being exposed early on in their careers, can help out immensely in the long run if they learn from their mistakes. Guys like Okudah, Ward, Conley, Apple, Lattimore, etc were thrown to the wolves early on and it helped them by the time they left and in their following years.

It is no secret the staff needed to load up at DB in this class and they have already done that...Hawkins, Simpson-Hunt, Lee, D. Johnson and Hartford would usually be a close the books type of situation. But it seems the staff is looking to land at 6-7 DB's I would presume at this point with who we have onboard (unless there is a defection or two). As good as this DB class is, there is no commit at the caliber of Downs, this dude is on another level. If we can land Downs, however the DB class winds up will be just fine imo, although I do want to see Jermaine Matthews in the fold regardless of how things shake out.
