Is there a lot of talk about him leaving early? Isn't this just his redshirt soph season?

... not sure, wasn't he a rFR in 07? Transfered and had to sit out 08... would this make it his rJR year? Either way I think your right he does have a year of eligability - who knows, maybe he stays and becomes an overall #1 in next years draft.

When Henne got hurt, Mallett started as a true frosh in 07, transferred to Arkansas in 08 & redshirted during his year off, and is now playing as a RS Soph. He has 2 years left.

Think he'll go that high? I was thinking late 1st maybe... I mean, I know he's a talented kid with a huge arm, but the more you hear about Bradford and McCoy you wonder if folks are forgetting Mallet...?
McCoy is not top-10 material. Bradford was a lock to go top-5, but his injury concerns (& dropoff without his incredible 08 OL) could hurt him.

Right now the top QB prospect is probably Clausen.

I think Mallett will return to be the top-QB in the '11 draft, but with the CBA issues & the potential new limitations on rookie contracts, I could see him going pro this year as well.

Where do you think he'll go in the draft? He wasn't in the first round in any of the mock drafts I looked through. Of course most of the drafts had the Browns taking Locker, which is absolutely retarded. I don't really want the Browns to take a QB with an early pick unless it's an absolute steal and not with their first round pick. They need playmakers all over the field before they worry about QB.
I would have no clue where Mallet would go - my post was as retarded as the mocks saying the Browns should get Locker. I haven't paid attention to the mocks yet, and from the posts here it sounded like he was 1st rounder.

Looking back - grabbing a Henne or Smith in the 4th/5th rounds would have been ideal. Looking forward, I agree with you, I don't want to spend the 1st rounder on a QB - if a Mallet or Henne is around come 3rd, 4th round I would like to jump on it.

Nothing new, but that doesn't mean that "draft analysts" haven't been tripping over his name.

Agreed - but to be fair his Oline has been pretty damn bad and that makes any QB look shotty. Sometimes the great ones shine, but its not easy.

Personally I think Bradford has a great mind, quick realese and nice touch.
He might not have a cannon for an arm but that's not what makes an NFL QB (but it damn well helps)

The Browns will screw up any QB that they pick so it probably doesn't matter. If they take the 2-5 round guy (Frye) he sucks. If they take the top of the first round guy (Couch) he sucks. If they take the bottom of the first round guy (Quinn) he sucks. For some reason no matter where the Browns pick they can't get the Manning, Brady or even a Flacco or Henne type of QB.
Might as well spend all the picks and FA signings this year on the right side of the OL and the defense and then see what Quinn can do unless a guy like Mallet decides to go pro and falls to the 3rd round.

I certainly could be wrong (and am not even an amateur follower of the draft), but I've never had any reason to put stock in what Todd McShay says. Has anyone ever provided a reason why we should care what he thinks? Does he have a track record in some capacity? Or is he just another talking head?

Talking head... hardly anybody listen's to the man, and that's not exactly who I'm talking about, not sure if anybody else is?

Frankly, I'd put a lot more stock in Kiper's opinion. Just pointing out, really, that the opinions on which QBs will go in what order (and even which round) is at present a matter of much debate and no agreement at all. Locker has been listed as the #1 overall choice in one mock draft I saw; in another he was 3rd round.

I would be shocked if Mallett didn't go in the Top 10 whenever he decides to come out.

Just watching the two in warm-ups before games, Mallett's arm made Henne's look mediocre. That's a pretty wild statement, because Henne has a cannon. Mallett will probably have the best arm of any QB that the NFL scouts have ever seen once he starts throwing in front of them at the NFL combine. Jamarcus Russell went #1 overall because of his arm, and Mallett has an even better arm than him.

People will immediately try and make the Russell comparison to try and knock Mallett, but Mallett isn't borderline retarded like Russell, he's actually a pretty smart kid, so I think he'll be OK.
