Russell Athletic Bowl: Rutgers +2.5 vs Va Tech (ov/un 41.5) Fri 5:30 ESPN

I watched this game long after it was over. Was I the only one that thought that Logan Thomas was down before he fumbled on the play where Rutgers got a very early TD?

They looked at the replay, and the announcers were wondering whether he got the ball out of the end zone or not before he fumbled. Matt Millen made the insightful comment "hmmm ... ummm". But when Thomas was reaching the ball forward, he was down in the end zone before he brought the ball backward and then fumbled when hit. ESPN brought in their 'replay expert' who talked about the ball being completely over the goal line, but he never commented on the QB being down in the end zone before fumbling the ball.

I'm constantly appalled at replay refs not reviewing plays, reviewing them for the wrong reason, and then getting the play wrong by overturning something that's not obviously wrong or not overturning something that obviously is wrong.

I thought they got the call right. He didn't get the ball all the way out and lost possession in the process. Just a bonehead play by Thomas. A safety isn't the worst thing in the world. Cover up, take the safety.
