Yes, definitely a surprise, but they pulled it together enough to beat one of the Big 3. I can't see them going any farther, but they've exceeded expectations.

So, the final four are: South Africa, France, Argentina, and England. I'm looking forward to the matches this weekend. I've watched much more than the last World Cup (I only saw the final match in 2003) and have really enjoyed it. I'd like to see 2011 live in NZ. The pressure on the AB's not to choke, AGAIN, at home will be phenomenal.

Ok, I was half wrong. The final will be England against South Africa, a re-match of a 36-0 ass kicking administered by the Springboks earlier in the tournament. England beat France 14-9 (unfortunately I missed the replay) and South Africa turned back a run by Argentina to win 37-13. I'm going to try to catch the replay of that one tomorrow night.

Despite the score of the earlier match this one has all sorts of built-in drama. The traditional, old-line Northern Hemisphere, grind it out in the pack defending world champions that no one expected to make it this far against the mercurial Southern Hemisphere Springboks that were the favorites, but were also expected by many to choke somewhere along the way. England had to exceed expectations to get this far and also had to have France knock out New Zealand. South Africa has managed the stress of being a, if not the, front-runner and has just kept moving forward. Both teams are on a roll and I'm looking forward to a great finals match.

I just watched thr replays of the semifinal matches. England hung tough against a solid French side, but is going to be absolutely shelled this week against South Africa. They had almost no offense and they will need plenty to stay on the field with the Boks.

Habana is SPECIAL.

I keep saying this, I am absolutely stunned that England is still in the tournament.

Stunned

Amazed

Even Shocked.

No way they can win.

(Insert Rocky reference somewhere near here).

Can't wait for the final. My dog is named after the Springboks. Granted, he's not a Ridgeback, but I'm sure that Steve19 will forgive the slight transgression.

I happen to have an old Boks jersey from the '99 RWC. Now I just need to decide whether I have the stones to wear it to the Brit bar in Chicago to watch the match.

Fuck it - take it from a Brit ex-pat - go ahead and do it.
Be true to yourself, they will respect that much more than coming in camo style.

The Dude abides. Plus, I've spent a ton of time in London, and it's where I would gladly live but only for that nagging little detail of affordability.

Where are you from in the UK sandgk? Should we make some form of wager on the final? A beer? A bottle of wine? A bottle of Scotch"

The English just don't have the horsepower to keep up in this one. The Boks are playing better than when they won 36-0. The score may not be that bad, but I don't, having watched England the last two weekends, see how they can keep it close.

Argentina were very game, but two of the Boks' three first half tries were the immediate result of Puma mistakes. (The third was the best try of the tournament, imho, by Habana.) England will have to play perfectly just to stay in the game. If not, they could very well look up and be down 20+ in the first half.

I'm disappointed that the all blacks (lowercase for now) nutted up against France. NZ/SA should've been the final.

I'm on record as saying that England should have folded long before now. So bets are not on - but a congratulatory tipple? That would always work.

Does the English side not have a history of rising up, against all expectations, to smite the Boks when it's least expected?
