Roman Polanksi Thoughts....

Seems to be Page 2 news in a busy political season. BP'ers opinions on most topics are spread across the board - but I feel confident that most people won't be defending the famous director.

The typically leftward leaning Salon writes an evisceration of his Hollywood defenders.

Images from 1977. When you plead guilty the statute of limiations is not an issue. His idiot lawyer said in his pleading that the LA DA was no longer even looking for him. Big mistake. HUGE. That prompted the latest efforts that resulted in his arrest.

He had to live in France for 30 years - isn't that punishment enough?

:wink2:

The victim has tried to get the case dismissed - from all indications, the last thing she wants is for a thirty year old scar to be reopened. I think she was quoted as saying 'it's been long enough, let's all try to move on'. Can't say I blame her.

"Bubba beat me, but I forgive him and don't want to press charges. "

Just like the above example, you prosecute because of what was done, not the wishes of the victim. You don't get to scar people for life and then get off because - well - you might scar them some more in the trial.

I think he should be punished on the fact that he's been trying to duck the US legal process for so long. The details of what happened are debateable.. but,in the end of the day the girl was leagally 13, and he needed to be held accountable for this... the punishment at this point, I'm not sure.

Debatable??? He fucking pled guilty. There is no debate of any kind as to what happened to be considered, other than the punishment to be meted out. He admitted that he sexually molested a 13 year old.

In addition, you do not get to flee the jurisdiction. Think breaking out of jail. You cannot do that just because you'd rather avoid the potential of a stiffer sentence. And if the judge did improper things, you have big bucks and a good lawyer and the appeals court. That is how you fight it. Running is a crime in and of itself.

I'm not condoning what he did by any means, and feel he should be prosecuted.

When I say "debatable circumstances" I mean as saying I have heard everything from the Mom was present, to Angelica Huston calling her a "25 year old 13 year old". I think there's a slight difference of circumstances when the individual isn't brutally forced. It does not make it right, and a 13 year old shouldn't be subjected to that, as well drugs were used... but it was a "party scene" where he probably didn't know exactly how young she was.... and they were all doing a lot of experimenting. We know it's very easy for a 13 going on 14 yr old to look 16/17 sometimes. Again, I'm not condoning, I'm just saying he wasn't exactly staking out the middle school parking lot either.

I say he should be held accountable, especially for ducking the US legal system. But, to punish him like a "child rapist"... not so much.

Agree 100%. Whatever he gets at this point is too good for him.

Not being able to leave, being drugged, dealing with someone who was seen as having the power in the situation...

Castration may be too good for him, too. He is not "like a child rapist." He is EXACTLY a child rapist.

Normally I would say "lock him up and through away the key"; however, in this case I think we should respect the victim's request.

Victim: Courts did more harm than Polanski
.
.
She is 45 now, and wishes the whole matter would just go away. The arrest of Roman Polanski in Switzerland over the weekend makes that highly unlikely. Geimer is back in the news in connection with the infamous 1977 California sex case, whether she likes it or not.
.
.
It should have ended three decades ago, when Polanski pleaded guilty to a single count of unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. He would have been given credit for time served while undergoing an evaluation and placed on probation.
.
.
She sued him, and a settlement was reached out of court. But the media, prosecutors and the courts in Los Angeles, California, continue to torment her, she has said.
.
.
Every time the case resurfaces her wounds reopen.
.
.
She most recently spoke in January, as attempts to resolve the case once again failed. She filed court papers asking a Los Angeles judge to dismiss the charges against the Oscar-winning director.

She was 13 and drugged. He was a powerful director who was her only ride home. Sounds pretty brutal to me.

according to the victim's grand jury testimony, Roman Polanski instructed her to get into a jacuzzi naked, refused to take her home when she begged to go, began kissing her even though she said no and asked him to stop; performed cunnilingus on her as she said no and asked him to stop; put his penis in her vagina as she said no and asked him to stop; asked if he could penetrate her anally, to which she replied, "No," then went ahead and did it anyway, until he had an orgasm.
