Rivals Top 10 Pregame Traditions

what the hell is #7? painting the helmets...not only have I never heard of this, i still don't care....I don't really have a good replacement but i guess if they are including tailgating on there then they could include LSU, or while I'm thinking about it, how about how they place Mike the Tiger by the other teams entrance so that he can roar at them, I always thought that was cool. Anyway, painting the helmets is not a top ten tradition

#9 is undoubtedly the best; however, you gotta to like Ralphie the Buffalo.

Reference: 2. Howard's Rock and The Hill, Clemson:
For atmosphere and pageantry, Clemson's pregame ceremony has been called the most exciting 25 seconds in college football. The Tigers touch "Howard's Rock" as a symbolic vow to give total effort and then enter the field by running down a hill in the east end zone to a raucous ovation.

Howard's Rock damaged by vandals

Howard's Rock, one of the iconic fixtures in college football, was vandalized on June 2 or 3, according to a police report obtained from the Clemson University Police Department.

According to the report, Lt. Gary Leslie arrived at Memorial Stadium at 2:30 p.m. on June 3 and found "a large piece of the rock was missing." Leslie reported that the plastic protective cover over the rock was sitting on the ground near the gate and that police were able to get a partial print off the pedestal. He estimated the damage to be $500, but the total damage is still pending.

Football players and coaches were not available for comment because the investigation is still pending. According to sports information director Tim Bourret, university employees Jeffrey Kallin and William Lewis went to take pictures of the rock for the marketing department, and when they arrived, they noticed the case was off and there was damage to the rock. Bourret estimated only about 15 percent of the rock was removed.

"We will still have our tradition of rubbing the rock and running down the hill," Bourret said.

Any list that doesn't include the ramp entrance is bull shit. Any list that doesn't put the entry of the cadets and midshipman #1 is seriously flawed. And just how in the hell does the painting of the helmets count as a pregame tradition? Does the leprechaun come out and hand dip each one in his pot of gold while the crowd eats their Lucky Charms?

As for the damaged rock and the broken plastic cover, Bob Dylan said it best, "The vandals stole the handle."

meh, the Ramp Entrance is cool, but I don't think it's a top 10 material

Yeah, I wouldn't have put the painting of the helmets at #7. I'd put hitting the Play Like a Champion sign, the Trumpets Under the Dome, or even the player walk before the helmet painting. You know, dotting the I before the OSU game trumps most of these that Rivals listed tbh.

"Notre Dame fooled us all...

Turns out they don't polish the helmets at Notre Dame anymore. They patch them. They switched last October to a new kind of textured graphic helmet that's so shiny they look like miniature Golden Domes. When they get a gouge in them, you don't paint them, you apply a sticky gold bandage over it, the way you would on the skinned knee of a Trump."

I recommend taking in a game at the Air Force Academy. Pregame includes all of the cadets in formation on the field, parachuting of the Stars and Stripes into the middle of the field, flyovers, and circling of the stadium by a live trained falcon. Maybe that's not all one great tradition, but it's a hell of a combo package.
