I am. also don't live in the midwest (surely could be a thread for silly college nicknames) and don't understand their reasoning on a number of things (such as--isn't a Sooner a cheater?).

Think he's done there. kind of surprised noone has come after wilcox. he's done a lot with a little at Cal.

how the hell do schools from Iowa and Tulsa have nicknames of Hurricane type storms?

that would be like Miami calling themselves the Blizzards or something equally dumb.

Cyclone is another name for a tornado ( not used often these days), and ISU being in Tornado Alley it makes sense. Tulsa? Not a clue.

It's kind of an "old timey" term, rarely here it used it used anymore. Like you, when I hear "cyclone" I think of a another term for a hurricane in certain parts of the world, mostly the Indian Ocean I believe.
