riskiest driving move....

That shows you are wrong.

My assumptions were wrong, and now I know. I was also confused with the data, I didn't really read it to be honest, just looked at the numbers and misread the driving direction.

Good show! The riskiest driving move in the world is the left hand turn!

...is a left hand turn. ups trains their drivers not to make them, instead using loops of right hand turns to get to their destination. 50% of intersection accidents involve a left hand turn, 4% for right hand turns.

While there may be some data that shows left turns are involved in the most accidents, this really isn't why UPS avoids left turns: it's because they determined that the idling while waiting for a turn wastes time and fuel, and it actually costs less to use all rights on their routes.

I'll have to flag down the UPS driver that always drives down our street, he is always going at least 40-50 MPH... then takes a right turn slowing to only about 30.. I swear, one of these days he is going to flip his brown truck and I'm not going to help him... I suppose I could go flag him down, pre-flipping, and encourage him to take left turns instead of hauling ass to make up for lost time utilizing only right turns...

yeah, I'd definitely prefer he make left turns and drive more responsibily....

its not the only reason anyway. for ups saving fuel would be the most important reason. but also the cost for repairs and the like certainly factor in.

turning across traffic is certainly one of the most dangerous things you can do while driving and is something i see people do ALL THE TIME. if i had a dollar for every time ive seen someone try to merge against 5 or 6 lanes of traffic blocking 2 to 3 lanes to do it id be a very rich man. worse part is the majority of the time if they just made 3 rights it would have not only been faster for them and everyone else involved, it would have been much safer as well.

The worst are people who make a driving mistake and expect everyone to work around them as they suddenly slow or rush to merge across three lanes, or come to a full stop in the left lane of the interstate in a panic until the police insist on escorting them out of town like one person I'll never let drive me again. If you goof, you keep going and find a safe way to turn around.
