Family: Michael Crichton dies of cancer

By HILLEL ITALIE, AP National Writer Hillel Italie, Ap National Writer ? 6 mins ago

NEW YORK ? The family of Michael Crichton, the million-selling author of such historic and prehistoric science fantasies as "Jurassic Park," "Timeline" and "The Andromeda Strain," says the author has died in Los Angeles.

Crichton died Tuesday at age 66. He had been privately battling cancer, his family said.

"Through his books, Michael Crichton served as an inspiration to students of all ages, challenged scientists in many fields, and illuminated the mysteries of the world in a way we could all understand," his family said in a statement.

This is especially sad for me. Crichton is my favorite author and I think I've read all but a handful of his books. He is by far the greatest influence on my probably never to be published book.

Author-Author

He was an exception wordsmith. He wrote exciting stories that had suspense and great structure. In an era where the written word is dead for some, he helped spur people to read and think.

Hmmm, Read and Think!

Novel idea isn't it?

this saves us from another jp sequel that sucks?

Doubt it. He only wrote the first two and the second one didn't follow the book very well. Actually the first one didn't follow the book very well either. Now that I think about it none of the movies that are based on his books followed the book very well.
I love the original JP movie, but it sucks next to the book. That's my favorite book of all time so I'm biased.

Yes, and he was so generous that he created a great television show for those who didn't want to read and think, ER.

Pretty talented guy. I remember reading in the introduction to one of his books long ago that he educated himself to be a doctor, and after all that time and training, found that he could creatively write better than he could perform his day job.

Weird I just got finished watching Westworld not 5 mins ago and then come across this post. Great movie and I hear it's getting remade and supposedly released sometime in the next couple years. Sucks he won't get to help with the project anymore.
