Ricky Williams (official thread)

The Dolphins will be inviting this guy to camp if he is reinstated. He' eclectic for sure and maybe not the sharpest tool in the shed, but he's got major talent when focused and Miami could use the offensive help. I hope his life is ironed out and the Dolphins run rampant with he and Ronnie Brown this season!

Williams

Williams was suspended last year for violation of the substance abuse policy and was eligible to be reinstated this month, but the league's medical advisors that oversee Williams' personal rehabilitation program recently notified commissioner Roger Goodell of the positive test, sources said. The doctors also recommended that Williams not be allowed to apply for reinstatement until September, sources said. The commissioner usually adheres to the advice of the medical advisors under the substance abuse policy.

Holy crap, what is wrong with this guy? If the NFL has any balls they should prevent this guy from every playing in the league again, period.

I don't want to act as an apologist for either Ricky "Clueless" Williams or any form of illegal drug use. With that said, it seems like whether your drug of choice is maryjane, steroids, or crack cocaine, the NFL's penalties are exactly the same. Seems a bit odd.

Thats a good point, there should be a staggered approach to penalities. However, I do agree with their policy that multiple failures lead to suspension. Thus, even if they try a variety of substances (steroids, weed, ecstasy) they should get nailed with increasing penalities.
