TORONTO (AP) - Ricky Williams needed a little time to get going in his CFL debut.

After gaining 8 yards in the first half, the former Dolphins running back finished with 97 yards on 18 carries in the Toronto Argonauts' 27-17 win over the Hamilton Tiger-Cats on Saturday in the regular-season opener for both teams.

Spergon Wynn replaced injured quarterback Damon Allen after the third play of the game when Allen went down with a broken middle finger on his right hand. But Toronto stuck with its pass-first gameplan even though it had Williams in the backfield.
The Argos, especially in the first half, seemed content to use Williams as a decoy rather than a ball carrier. The former Heisman Trophy winner had three carries, and two catches for 24 yards in the half.
Williams saved his best for the second half, ripping off a 39-yard run midway through the fourth after rookie Jermaine Mays' interception put the Argos at their 20-yard line. Noel Prefontaine's 32-yard field goal gave Toronto a 10-point lead with 3:10 remaining.
Williams is playing in the CFL after he was suspended by the NFL for one year after a fourth positive drug test. He rushed for 53 yards on 15 carries in Toronto's two exhibition losses to Hamilton.
Hamilton coach Greg Marshall was unhappy when Toronto gave Williams the ball twice from the Ticats 6-yard line in the closing seconds, attempting to get him a touchdown and 100 yards rushing.
"Would you give it to your star back with 5 seconds left?" Marshall fumed. "It doesn't matter, our job is to defend and they can do what they want to do."
Williams shrugged off Marshall's comments.
"I think they just wanted to get me over 100 yards and get me a touchdown," he said. "They were just trying to make my debut just a little bit nicer." "When you lose you find things to get (upset) about. Seriously, it's not a big deal. Who cares about 100 yards? We won, that's what's important."

Ricky Williams struggles in loss to Winnipeg

By The Associated Press
July 8, 2006

TORONTO - Suspended NFL running back Ricky Williams had 6 yards on nine carries in the Toronto Argonauts' 24-17 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers on Saturday. Williams, playing in his fourth regular-season game in the CFL after he was suspended by the NFL for one year after a fourth positive drug test, also had two catches for 12 yards.
Charles Roberts gave Winnipeg its 13-7 halftime lead thanks to a 23-yard touchdown run. It came two plays after the Bombers stopped Williams on third-and-1 at the Argos 35-yard line.
Williams put Toronto (1-3) in position to go for it with a nice 7-yard reception. He took a swing pass from Spergon Wynn, delivered a brilliant stiff-arm on Winnipeg's Kelly Malveaux, then hurdled cornerback William Fields before being pushed out of bounds.

I'd probably watch the games if they were all televised here.

I tend to watch just about any level of football if it's available...heck I watched the XFL & WLAF when they were on. lol

If you have Direct TV with the sports package you can catch quite a few games. I'm assuming the Dish Network has a similar package. The production quality is terrible. However, the lame Canadian commercials are funny, and the games themselves aren't that bad at all. I'd rather watch the CFL over NFL Europe or AFL any day.

Ricky Williams breaks arm in CFL game
Suspended from the NFL, running back now out indefinitely
The Associated Press

Updated: 11:45 p.m. ET July 22, 2006

REGINA, Saskatchewan - Running back Ricky Williams broke his left arm in the second quarter of the Toronto Argonauts’ 26-23 victory over the Saskatchewan Roughriders on Saturday night and is out indefinitely.

Argonauts coach Mike “Pinball” Clemons confirmed the injury but did not specify which bone was broken.

“He has a broken arm, so he’s going to be out for a little while,” Clemons said.

Williams, who was not available for interviews, left the game midway through the second quarter after a 3-yard gain when he was tackled by several Saskatchewan players, including linebacker Mike McCullough. X-rays taken at a Regina hospital revealed a broken bone.

“He was actually holding himself off the ground,” Clemons said of Williams. “He was running with the ball and he was trying to hold himself up, I think. It was a pile of people and we saw him coming down.

“We knew he was hurt when he came off the field. It looked like it was his shoulder (from) the way he was leaning, but it turned out be his arm.

“You’re talking about some fortitude. It’s a clean break. He just came off quiet, didn’t say a thing. Like, I’d have been screaming.”

Williams finished with 17 yards on four carries, including one run of 16 yards. He entered Saturday’s game sixth in the league in rushing with 214 yards on 53 carries with one touchdown in four games.

Williams is playing in the CFL after he was suspended by the NFL for one year after a fourth positive drug test. He is still under contract with the NFL’s Miami Dolphins.

Any games Williams misses will be the first he sits out due to injury since a broken left ankle forced him to miss the last six games of the 2000 NFL season, when he was with the New Orleans Saints.

Former Miami running back spent last year in Canada

Ricky Williams ran for 526 yards on 109 carries and caught 19 passes for 127 yards for the Argonauts last season.

NEW YORK (AP) -- Ricky Williams, the former NFL star who played in Canada last season after being suspended for a year for substance abuse, has applied for reinstatement.
Williams' agent, Leigh Steinberg, said the running back, who will turn 30 in May, had sent a letter asking that he be allowed to return to the Miami Dolphins.
The NFL confirmed that Williams had sought reinstatement, for which he will be eligible after April 27, when he will have been suspended for a year. Dolphins spokesman Harvey Greene said the team had no comment because Williams is not yet eligible for reinstatement.
