  • Just a sick injury last night in the Florida - Buffalo game.

    [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aiLvLxebfk0]YouTube - Richard Zednik cut by skate[/ame]

    Thankfully the surgery he had went ok and he's in stable condition.

    You can see the trail of blood from where it happened to the bench.

    I didn't know about the linesman taking one to the face....

    Cleary is out for 6-8 weeks (probably 6 given who he is) but that sucks because the light had finally come on for him this season.....

    but hey if that means the Wings will go out and get someone like Mirian Hossa or Mats Sundin, I'm all for it.....

    no tougher sport.

    sharp skates, sticks, and a small rubber puck flying around at 100mph. Oh yeah, and there's 6'7" 260 lbs players looking to drill you into some boards and glass. A lot of bad can happen.

    nasty injury.

    I still can believe he skated back to the bench. Props to the Buffalo trainers and staff for their quick work. Very glad to see Zednik recovering well. I wonder how long before he's back playing in a game. If he was a baseball player, he'd be out for the year, but since he's a hockey player, he'll be back well before then.

    You gotta love hockey players, tough on the ice and very nice off it.

    nope he wont be back till next year, apparently today he still thinks hell be ready for the "stretch run"

    the oddest thing about this to me was i was at the game sunday and when the goal was waived off for kicking the goal in the guy by me thought that was bs that that is a rule. i nicely explained why (for obvious reason that each player essentially plays with four knives (two on each skate-one on each side of the U groove in the skates) he then said what a game for p words, i told the story of the linesman this week, who by the way required 60 stitches and broken bones still tried to break up the fights on the ice. he didnt tell, then i told him of clints neck injury (maybe nastier video than anything ive seen in sports)

    im so happy zednik is ok

    Yea, sure glad he'll be ok.

    Even the officials earn their keep. It's amazing to think what an NHL official has to go through every game (actually any hockey official). They bust their asses all game long, every game. They must have thighs like tree trunks. It wasn't that long ago that they got by with 1 referee and 2 linesmen.

    The NHL does it right as far as confrontation between players and officials. Very rarely do the players give the officials any shit, and if they touch them, an automatic suspension. The coaches, on the other hand, sure do their part.

    Yeah, I saw the replay like 100 times on ESPN last night, the guy is a fucking beast, I mean he skated off with blood spurting out of his neck. One thing I will say about Hockey is they take injuries a lot more seriously than most sports, in the NFL they take a guy off the field and a minute later it's back to the game, in the NHL they waited to hear news that he was alright and even then the game wasn't the same.

    And I agree with TexasBuck, everyone seems to focus on how violent Hockey can be, but it's one of the more exciting sports to watch if you can get into it. In our house we are Ducks fans, and over the past 4 years I don't think you will see the type of reaction we get during the playoffs from almost any other sport.
