Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Whoa whoa whoa, let's not go overboard here. I don't want them to fall into complete mediocrity, but that doesn't mean I, nor should any tOSU fan, "wish them the best."

I understand it's pretty easy to be sympathetic when we've been beating them like a drum for the past 7 years, but remember, the tsun fans we have here make their fanbase look good, but all you need to do is go look at any scUM forum and you'll quickly reverse the idea of wishing them the best.

Fuck Michigan.

...The Beilein thing is what's frustrating, and it's not hard to see why Michigan fans are looking askance at WVU over this. Beilein was hired on April 4 and the buyout not settled until April 26. In between, there was the usual fuzzy-talk - "The lawyers are looking into it" and all that jazz. Rodriguez was hired December 16 and right away, the dance began. Same music, same beat. "The lawyers are looking into it." Then, in less than half the time it took to settle the Beilein buyout - whammo! lawsuit...

you're assuming that WV has (had?) the same level of trust/respect for both DW and Beilein. Based on what you've done to compare the two departures, I'd suspect that WVU knows DW is no J Beilein.

... It'd make RR the bigger man in this case if he'd offer up the $4 million or at least try to sit down and discuss a settlement. He'd have every right to ask for a reduction in the amount since WVU agreed to it with Beilein, and since his accusations aren't without merit, that WVU hasn't held up their end of the bargain.

that's a HUGE what-if... if there's anything DW has failed to demonstrate in all of this nastiness is precisely that he puts no value in being the bigger man. clearly he puts value on other things (himself, his recruits, etc.) but not on being the bigger man. if it walks like a duck... if he wanted/had the character to be the bigger man, none of this would have seen the light of day, imo...

I'm a late comer to this dance, but how is that so? Is it the building of new facilities aspect? Because unless there's a strong case that WVU is materially in breach of contract, I don't see how...

Or that...

Unless WVU has nullified the contract by being in breach of it, Rodriguez would not be a bigger man by following the terms of the contract he signed, regardless of what WVU elected to with Beilein.

There's a laundry list of things that WVU agreed to do as part of the contract that RR says didn't get done. Don't have time to look them up right now, I'm about to take off. They include waiving ticket fees for high school coaches to see WVU games, redoing the locker room, and sundry other minor things. WVU has either not done them or made a half-assed effort to do them or done some of them but not others, depending on who you're listening to. Most are pretty minor and don't seem like the sort of things that $4 million ought to hang in the balance on - but on the other side of the coin, the very minor-ness of them means there really isn't any excuse for not having done them.

Understanding that you're under no obligation to research the details, that is too vague to pass judgement on. For example, presumably time lines for these things being done were stipulated in the contract. I do agree with you though, that on the surface, that does not sound like the kind of stuff that can feasibly be argued to negate a 4 million dollar buyout.

RR and TSUN can end this right now. Just pay WVa. Pony up the cash and stop this mess now.

I love that this is what Carty is calling for and the sentiment is that the other issues will all go away if he pays the money.

The money is THE issue. It is 4 million $s. That is a huge amount to RR and not at all trivial to UM.

OSU - with the biggest biggest Athletic budget in the nation - felt the sting of the Obie payout. UM will already be paying the salaries of two sets of assistants next season. And their facilities suck. This is not going to end with somebody writing a check because it is the right thing to do.

Which falls back on ethics. Unless UM agreed to foot the bill, or at least a good portion of it, he shouldn't be violating his contract causing the buyout to kick in. It's the proverbial "______ writing checks that his butt can't cash".

Whatever you say :roll2: ..

Two projects are mentioned in the contract. The locker room renovation has begun and is on track to be completed in the first quarter of 2008, as the contract specifies. The academic center is finished, but missed the contract's completion target of the first quarter of 2007.

In his press conference Monday, Rodriguez praised WVU's commitment to the football program.

"There were a lot of positive things at West Virginia going on," he said. "And we worked hard at it, from the academic center to the locker room and some of those things. I was very pleased with it. And I will say this, the people that supported the program at West Virginia, the boosters and the people that gave the money, were unbelievable."

If you found that entertaining, you'll really enjoy the last 30 seconds of this one. Let me tell you, this guy really goes a long way toward smashing those WVU fan stereotypes. :slappy:
