Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

I believe RR & Michigan reps will tell the Infractions Committee in August that the stretching period had to be expanded in order to loosen Barwis developed muscles. On another front this WV article is especially for peckerheadblue.

Was Rodriguez merely outthinking himself?

Well, of course it is. Here's the sticking point, though. If the school admits that Rodriguez failed to promote that atmosphere of compliance, it can hardly argue that the more specific violations were merely mistakes or errors in judgment. In an atmosphere of non-compliance, the commission of those violations would portray Rodriguez's program as out of control.
Ah, but if Michigan steadfastly stands behind Rodriguez and maintains that he was at all times trying to run a clean program - i.e., promoting an atmosphere of compliance - well, then all of those other issues can be explained away with that simple, "Oops.''
The trouble is, it is that fifth allegation that is the most serious and the one the NCAA is no doubt looking at the hardest. It is also the reason the NCAA paid a visit to West Virginia last winter, digging into how things were done when Rodriguez was here.
From WVU's point of view, of course, it would be best if the NCAA uncovered nothing during its foray to Morgantown; that it establishes that things were done properly. The school no doubt went to great lengths during the NCAA's visit to explain how it so often denied Rodriguez in his requests to do things that seemed borderline nefarious.
From Rodriguez's point of view, though, it would actually seem almost beneficial if the NCAA uncovered evidence of violations at WVU similar to those that are being charged at Michigan. Rodriguez would then have a much easier time explaining away the Michigan "mistakes'' if they were ones he had committed elsewhere, giving him the ability to say, "Well, I didn't know. That's the way I've always done it.''
How will it all pan out when the NCAA's Committee on Infractions meets in mid-August to consider the Michigan case? Who knows? But the bottom line is that Rodriguez is probably past the point of being able to outsmart anyone on these points.

Discussing the "taped towel"..

The quarterbacks used taped towels during drop back and handoff drills. The primary purpose of the drills was to work on footwork and body movement. According to student-athlete 5, one of Michigan's quarterbacks, the towel did not simulate a football; it was just something for him to hold while he did the drill. In other words, it required him to hold something while he ran the drill so his hands and arms would be in the same position as when he does the same movement on the field. A taped towel is not a football and cannot be thrown, caught or kicked like a football.
The "taped towel" is also referred to as "Tate's Blankie". I heard Nick Sheridan prefers to use a Teddy Bear

Seriously though..an item used in place of a football used to keep ones hands to in the same place as if he were holding a football does not count as "simulating a football"? What the hell WAS it supposed to be simulating?

They had to find something Tate wouldn't fumble so easily.

College Football News discusses Scum's season game by game. So of this is pure gold.....

Scout.com: 5/31 Blog - Analyzing Michigan's Schedule

9/11/2010 ? AWAY Notre Dame
This game will be more about the coaches than the players. New Irish coach Brian Kelly is a stickler to preparation and detail. Look for Kelly?s influence to be paramount and contrast it with the Rodriguez operation. It will be this difference that will be the key to a Notre Dame win. LOSS

9/18/2010 ? HOME Massachusetts
A win here will give the Wolverines a winning record against FCS teams in the program?s history. Woo ? hoo! WIN

11/27/2010 - AWAY Ohio State
When you look at how Terrelle Pryor will counter the 3-3-5 with his running ability, you have to evaluate how??..ah forget it. Why bother? LOSS

So it is 5-5 with two toss-up games that the more I look at them, the more I am inclined to give them both an ?L?. But let?s revisit this schedule and the future prospects come August. But if Michigan does not make a bowl game this season, it will be because of what they do, not due to the actions of others. To paraphrase Radar O?Reilly in the M*A*S*H episode when he was trying to act all scholarly to impress a new nurse, “The fall of the Michigan football program was due to internal strife.”

They're going to be 10-2... right?

Yes.

Right up to the point when they actually aren't. Then of course they all knew they weren't really going to be any good this year because its only been X years since Lloyd left the cupboard bare. Then its on to recruiting fantasy's, winter workouts, the spring game and another summer of pending domination hype.

The whole thing would be perfect if they could just find a way to avoid that damn 3 month stretch of the year when their team actually has to play.

10/30/2010 ? AWAY Penn State
It is better to have big, fast guys than little, fast guys. Give the edge to the PSU defense over the Michigan offense. This will probably be a night game and it will give Nittany Lion fans the chance to act like Mike Vanderjagt at the Pro Bowl. (Get all liquored up and run their mouths off, at least according to Peyton Manning.) LOSS

It's funny 'cuz it's true.

Saw that.

Clearly they didn't learn anything from the fake news releases over on the TSUN boards. They're going to be 10-2... right?

Against UMass in the first quarter? Yeah, I can see that. They score on their first drive. Get held to a field goal on their second. Get pinned and caught behind the goal line for a safety on the third and then the floodgates open.

UMass 37 TSUN 10

Don't forget about the recruiting season where their insiders will sell them stuff like the following:

Consider this list of prospects:
1 - Braxton Miller
2 - Joe Nobody 5-6 slot dot

Now, what if I told you that RR will land half of the kids on this list! That's a pretty strong class and we're in great shape. From what I hear, everyone loves RR except the haters out there. What can you do there's always going to be haters. At least 50.1% of the time. Anyway, I'm certain that Michigan will get at least half the players (well, as certain as you can be in recruiting, remember there's no sure thing) on the above list so, rest easy the ship has been righted.

Fuck them.

For whatever reason DickRod's speach (when he was introducted as scUM's next football coach at a basketball game) didn't get much media coverage.....
