Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

Is this what scUM aspires to? Having Dickrod run up the score on some overmatched 7th rate team but being 1 - 2 in the Big 10 this season, 0 - 2 against MSU, and 0 - 1 against tOSU? Reach for the stars, scUMmers.

Still an @$$.

Here's where I love JT's philosophy of not running up the score. While scUM has their highest ever total yards etc. against Delaware state, ours was against a Brady Quinn led ND. It just LOOKS better.

Please. C'mon, you can do better than this.

Rich tried so hard to run-up the score that he only passed the ball 18 times all game, played 5 different QB's and pulled his starting QB after one drive and two pass attempts, right?

BTW, Notre Dame's defense is about as good as Delaware State's. Most players have had a career day on their defenses under Cholly.

Did any of you guys even happen to watch that game? Nick Sheridan got most of the action in the 2nd QTR. Rodriguez unloaded the bench in the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th QTRs. No running up of the score or padding stats whatsoever.

It wasn't like Urban Meyer leaving Tebow in the game against Southern Charleston up by 40 or something like that.

I did not see Rich running up the score at all.

Ummmmm...if Nick Sheridan is leading TD drives, please don't insult our intelligence by comparing Deleware State's D to anything but, well, air :slappy:

Agreed. I think they are grossly underestimating just how bad Delaware State is.

And forgetting that Tressel went for it on 4th and goal in the last minutes against Illinois while up 23 with the starting QB still playing.

I can find plenty of reasons not to like Rich Rodriguez, and this doesn't make the list.

(Also, sometimes it's best just to let things like this go. It is a Buckeye site, and while there's quite a bit more reason than on Scout, Rivals, or god forbid...ESPN..... there will still be the occasional homeristic post that probably isn't worth the fight.)

What would you call going for it on 4th and 5 up by 40?

Its not a heinous act, since he pulled the starters, but its certainly not innocent either.

Was he worried he wouldn't have enough reps in the rest of the drives starting at midfield or better? :p

He was just running the offense and getting Sheridan reps.

I know some people won't see it like that. Sheridan needs all of the reps he can get and then some. We aren't completely out of the water just yet in regards to QB depth. The situation will get a lot better next year when Gardner comes in and with Tate having an entire year to add size.

That is still a years off though and I still think we need Sheridan around this season as an emergency policy. Tate plays with a reckless abandon and he's gotten injured because of it. Not a good idea to throw your body around like that when you are probably 175 pounds.

I am also not sold on Robinson as a QB either. I was actually kind of upset that they didn't get Robinson more time and get him throwing the ball 15-20 times in this game. He needs the practice.

I could see that late in a contest, or if Sheridan only had 1-2 series after waiting for the 3rd string to play, but wasn't there still a lot of time left for delaware to gain under 5 yds and punt right back?

I agree he needs reps. I just think those reps were guaranteed to be plentiful after kicking a fg.

The kicking game could certainly use work too, and a 5 yarder isn't a gimme if it isn't straight on (I have no idea where it was spotted)

but barwis told everyone he's 190! :p

I was a bit surprised by that too. Perhaps he was protecting his only healthy starter.

Did the coner play late in the game?

I'd bet the Michigan band could field a team that could beat Delaware State. Made up of female members only.
Of course they would! Have you seen the size of those females?
