Rich Rodriguez (official thread of last laughs)

A 3-3-5 will get killed in the Big Ten. Big backs are going to be picking up 4 to 6 yards a carry on them in conference play. Plus who is going to be running his spread next year? Mallett? I don't think TSUN has anyone on the roster right now who could run the spread.
Sigh....

....again: Mallett cannot run the spread option. I am sure, having worked exclusively out of the shotgun in high school, that he can run the spread.

Another point, unrelated, regarding RB's and the 3-3-5: Ray Rice never beat West Virginia.

He also siad that he'd like to retire in AA, but that he wouldn't be around as long as some folks would. He had said earlier his 9-year old son (Rhett) would be the #1 QB recruit in the class of 2017, and has already committed to TSUN.

Then he said that without a redshirt year for his son, he'd be coaching there about 14 years (implying that he'd retire when the kid was done at TSUN).
according to the WVU board, those are the same things he said about being at WVU not 1 year ago.

That is because Ray rice cannot win a game by himself. He had 129 and 142 against them.

Yes, but RR always picked up more than a friendly share of yardage against WVU.
So, take 2 RB's that are big & fast; couple that with a great defense in the B10 and I think we'll see what we expect. - slaughter.

It should be amusing for a while, until Michigan realizes Dick Rod has just the same if not a worse tendency to blow more big games
than Carr.

Then why was he described as pro-style during his recruitment?
Also - you are correct to try and guide the conversation away from spread option - as you acknowledge, Mallett hasn't got the wheels for that.
By the same token, just because he was in the shotgun for passing downs (every down?) in high school does not mean that he will be comfortable in or capable of running a readless spread.

This may have much more to do with Rutgers inability to stop WVU scoring than it does Ray Rice being unable to gain yards against WVU's 3-3-5.

Now take that to the next level. Beanie - there are two fewer folks in the box - what do you do?

Re: WV 33 Stack

I have the Defensive Playbook if anyone is interested. WVU was more tendency based in their 33 than what you saw against Akron...you could count on a 4 man front usually.

Probably because the only two designations the commercial services use are "pro-style" and "dual threat". All those designations seem to indicate is whether the QB can or cannot run. Mallett can't run, therefore he's "pro-style".

The point of the 3-3-5 is to have 8 guys in the box, I do believe.

I was meaning to ask you this since you answered questions before when we decided to run a 3-3-5; How will this work against teams that will run the ball right at you? Would you keep 4 down lineman most of the time, like you mentioned?
