Report: NBA studying flopping

These pretzels are making me thirsty.

Flopping is already illegal in international play. Now, it might become illegal in the NBA, as well.

The NBA is studying how often flopping occurs and whether officials can tell the difference between flops and actual fouls, Stu Jackson, the NBA's executive vice president for basketball operations, told Bloomberg News in a story published Thursday.

"They're really difficult to determine in real time. They're meant to fool an official," Jackson said. "Are we going to be wrong more times than not? It's tough, but we're looking at it."

Jackson said the NBA is considering whether to allow its officials to impose technical fouls for flopping, which FIBA, the governing body of international basketball, allows its referees to do. Other sports, such as hockey and soccer, also allow referees to penalize players who flop.

"We have so many more plays than you do in a football or soccer game and in a more intimate environment," he said.

Jackson didn't give a timetable for the league to make a decision.

I think your flop teams (1st & 2nd) are great, and I'm really happy to see the addition of Malone on there as well as Sabonis.

Another lost treasure in my opinion would be Kobe. Don't let him slide on this just because he's not an older player. Now that I think about it, because of his size and awkward footwork, Vlade did have the most classic flops although I still think Stockton takes him in the quantity department.

Also, as far as a whole team goes...any DUKE team could fill this category quite well. I swear they dedicate full team practices to this fine art.

jordan did his fair share of falling down and sliding across the floor. everyone does it i think that this will be too much pressure on the refs, because everyone does it and the only ones that you can really call are on the screeners when they act like the defensive man runs them over, and when someone pretends to take a charge getting hit head on and falls sideways, they can enforce it i think that it's going to be hard. also when people pump fake get tapped and throw the ball up i think that is a little weak, if you take it to the hole out of control and get tapped the same way they do on the pump fakes usually they don't call the defensive foul when you go the hole out of control.

it's painful watching Duke sometimes....they absolutely abuse the flop....Shane Battier was the all-time worst....I don't see him doing it in the NBA quite as much but holy god was it bad at Duke.....The earlier poster who talked about dedicating entire practices to the art of the flop was dead on
