I was never fine with it.

What is Paterno's history in the Big Ten? He has coached in it less than 20 years, won 3 Big Ten titles, and one Rose Bowl. Seems to me there are other iconic figures with long, legitimate ties to the Big Ten who could be recognized in this manner.

What other name is on the trophy and his Big 10 affiliation? Paterno is the winningest Coach in D1 history. Been in the league for 19 years. Up until this pile an unblemished career. Let's see what happens in court. He's NOT a target. Morally he sould have done more? I wont make a moral judgement.

Uhhh...Stagg coached in the Big Ten for almost 40 years and won 7 conference titles and 2 national championships.

Buckloin, At The University of Chicago and last Coached in 1932!!!! I don't remember those day!!! Were they good games :tongue2:

Yeah, and? Are you one of the Miami "football began in 1983" people? Look at a list of the innovations that Stagg brought to football, and it is clear that he actually deserves to be on the trophy himself, regardless of Paterno or not.

And let's just say the games went a lot faster back then, so they were much better

 I prefer Paul Brown if we want history and innovation.

Buckloin???

And yeah, Stagg coached a long time ago and is long since dead. It's smart to name things like this for people like him. Dead people can't take any actions to fuck up their legacy or embarrass the people who are using it. Also, in the case of people who have been dead as long Stagg has, enough time has passed that any possible skeletons would have likely surfaced by now.

I don't see why his name should be on it, either.

Paterno is the winningest Coach in D1 history. Been in the league for 19 years.

This is the Big Ten championship trophy, not a hall of fame induction.

Up until this pile an unblemished career. Let's see what happens in court. He's NOT a target.

Never said he was a target. That's two straw men in one post, rock.

As for waiting for court, why? As you said, he's not a target. The grand jury report makes his inaction pretty clear. The only question is why.

Morally he sould have done more? I wont make a moral judgement.

That's unfortunate, because if Joe Paterno had made a moral judgment in 2002 he could've used the power of his name to make sure Sandusky was arrested and charged with a crime. Instead, he took the same delusional high road as you and more kids suffered for it.

Not so fast my Friend. It looks like the Stagg family has issues with Paterno on the trophy.

It's better to remove Paterno's name than have the Stagg family requesting Stagg's name be removed.

Whether his name should have been on it (should not, IMO), it certainly shouldn't stay on it now. Nothing about his actions scream "Leader" or "Legend", and don't reflect AT ALL what the principles of the Big Ten are or should be.

Failure to remove it is stranded cost fallacy. There's no way you'd put his name on it if you were making the decision today, so why leave it on? It hasn't yet been awarded and has no history. Leave it as the Stagg trophy and call it a day.

Yup. Then we could have the trophy look like this:

The Big Ten would have the sexiest Championship Trophy in College Football.

I signed it. The guy is a world class hypocrite. I'm glad the truth finally came out about him and all his garbage about how now (having been called out) in hindsight he wishes that he had done more rings hollow. The fact is that he did essentially nothing and he let other kids be abused by his knowing inaction. I'm glad to see his career end ignominiously and I hope that his disgrace doesn't just blow over. I don't see a whole lot of moral distinction between someone who fcuks children and someone who knows about and could stop it and doesn't.
