Remote control helicopters...

A buddy of mine has (or should I say had) one of these. It took a long time to get it to perform the way I wanted. Took a long time to get the controls right, and even then it wasn't 100%. Of course his dog hated it. I was flying it one time, and the dog jumped up and chomped it. Buh bye copter. It does take a lot of trial and error, and even then it's still really tough.

The only tip I can give is altitude is the only way to get it to go straight forward. You need to get it high up straight, and then slower lower it to go forward while keeping it out of a spin. It is really tough.

So today, this guy at work had this tiny remote control helicopter. We have kind of "office warfare" going on, so he flew it at me and then let me mess around with it. The thing was fun, but really, it just seemed like it would go up and down and maybe, if you were lucky, you could get it to tilt and fly foward.

Am I missing something? I mean it was fun, but you could actually navigate the thing it would be a lot more fun.

Anyone use these things and have some input? If I could find something that was actually steerable I could see it being a lot of fun, but so far, bleh.

Sounds like they aren't as maneuverable as those remote controlled bugs that some Hippie friends of Taos saw at a protest a couple of years ago

They had a tiny one at the store that the guy controlled really well. The one my brother-in-law got was just too big for a beginner. The simulator was cool because you had to use the RC to control it on the screen but even that was tough. I think he gave up. It would be a lot of fun if they weren't so tough to steer.
Anything easy ain't worth a damn.
