Remake of "Enter the Dragon" under way

I also just read the other day at IMDB that the Weinstein Co. (and whatever production company they own now) are going to be re-making The Seven Samurai.

:shake:

The Weinstein Co. announced plans Wednesday to invest $285 million In Asian-themed projects, including a remake of the 1954 Kurosawa film The Seven Samurai. In a statement, company said that it had also invested an undisclosed amount in the martial arts film The Forbidden Kingdom, which pairs Jet Li and Jackie Chan. Muck, oddly enough, they did kind of remake G.O.D.

About 5 years ago, they found a lot of missing footage from the movie combined with Bruce Lees editing notes. They re cut the movie along with the missing footage and put together a documentary about it. Pretty good stuff.

Yeah. I don't really view that as a remake though rather it's sort of a pseudo director's cut (or at least trying to match the director's vision).

It's closer to the recut versions of Blade Runner, Brazil & Superman IMO.

See now that doesn't bother me quite so much.

Probably because Seven Samurai has been "remade" so many times already...Magnificent Seven, A Bug's Life & Battle Beyond the Stars, Seven Swords, Samurai 7, Seven Warriors and the Bollywood film Sholay.

I wouldn't mind a competently done remake, unfortunately going by the comments in the link you provided that's unlikely to happen (by their own comments the Weinstein's have absolutely no clue about why those films were successful).

Now if they had any kind of vision they would do a film version of the Greek play the Thebiad/Seven Against Thebes that was a major influence on Kurosawa's epic.

The difference with Bruce Lee's films is that you can't remake them because you don't have Bruce. He WAS those films (as OCBucksFan already pointed out).

I always loved watching those japanese Samarai movies. They would come on late at night. Most of them had the same guy as the hero and he was one mean SOB . I would stay up on purpose if I knew they were going to show one.

Toshiro Mifune is the actor you're thinking of.

Most of those films were directed by Akira Kurosawa. Mifune was by far his favorite actor to use in his films (think Sergio Leone & Clint Eastwood).

If there are any of Kurosawa's films you've never seen I highly recommend that you check them out.
