Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

A lot is being made of the Nationals/Strasburg situation and him running into an organizational inning limit by late August at his current pace.

Haven't seen mention of it, but with the Reds SP strength and (until Dusty Baker ruined another arm by giving Cueto a blister on his finger this week) the fact nobody has missed time, the Reds are going to have some questions to answer in September if they continue at their current clip:

IP (career high)

Cueto 120.1 (185.2 2010)
Bailey 112.1 (132.0 2011)
Latos 109.2 (194.1 2011)
Arroyo 108.2 (240.2 2006)
Leake 104.2 (167.2 2011)

Arroyo & Latos are not concerns, Cueto possibly. Bailey and Leake however may present problems in September, and they have both been brilliant recently.

Leake is fine (Cueto is fine too for that matter). A 20% bump in innings is perfectly acceptable. He is on pace to pitch 191 innings (a 14% increase). You also need to add in 30 more innings to Homer. He pitched 30 innings in the minors last year, which makes his total 162.0. He is on pace for 206, or a 27% increase. A bit on the high side, so maybe a skipped start or two once they get some off days. Yet nothing of major concern.

None of the Reds starters are anywhere near Strasburg, who is coming off major surgery and has already pitched as much this year as he has in any previous year (well, 4 innings less than his previous max, but you get the idea).

Votto out 3 to 4 weeks. Oh well, it was a good season while it lasted.

If he's out 3 or 4 weeks, the best team you'll play in that span will be the Pirates at the very end of week three followed by the Diamondbacks right now. Everyone else on the schedule over that time span sucks.
