Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Boy, Latos loves the heat doesnt he?

That is the only really hit ball today. That's his M.O. though. He has one mistake pitch even when he's dominating.

That ball is way gone at home also. I hope he can hang in there and finish this one.

The one Posey hit would be gone in 90% of ballparks (the one Stubbs tracked down earlier in the game). Overall it was a really well pitched game. His slider is getting much better, and he is pitching lower in the zone than he was earlier in the year. Hopefully he keeps it up.

That sounds a lot like the people calling for Dunn to bunt every time they put the shift on him.

I want no part of 1 of our 2 legit power hitters bunting his way on and putting the onus of run production on one of the many AAA level hitters in this lineup.

But isn't that the same argument that Adam Dunn taking a lot of walks is a bad thing?

Bunt for a hit every at bat = 1.000 OBP, 1.000 SLG, 2.000 OPS.

The running dumb fucks behind him will luck into an RBI eventually.

Fuck you, Tony LaRussa

Well, there are 3 Reds. Just not the ones that make sense. Honestly I am happy about the 3 that are going. Phillips should be on the team, but is older and I am glad he is getting some rest. Chapman over Cueto is a head scratcher, but hey, I would much rather a relief guy pitch than having a starter go to the All Star game and pitch a random 1 inning.

My only guess is LaRussa wanted a lefty reliever (or still pissed about the kick to his shitty backup catcher whose career was over anyway) and a left handed power bat. He didn't pick the most deserving but the guys he thought could fill a role.

Overall I am glad Cueto is not on the team. I hate starters playing in the All Star game. Yet there is the last fan vote coming up (they still do that right?). Cueto and Phillips will be 2 huge names for that. Personally I would rather see Phillips get the nod there. Cueto is due to pitch the last game before the All Star game and probably won't be able to pitch in the All Star game anyway (which could also be a part of the reason for not being on the team). This way he maximizes his starts with the Reds, including being able to come back right after the All Star game and go against the Cards.

Edit: Nevermind, neither Cueto or Phillips are on the final vote ballot. Cool. I am glad they are not on there. The pennant race is way more important than the stupid All Star game.

The last fan vote is between 5 players, none of which are Reds(Aaron Hill, Chipper Jones, Bryce Harper and 2 others). So, barring any injuries Cueto and Phillips are not going to be participating in the ASG. Jones deserves to get the last spot IMO. He's had too good of a career to not be represented there one last time.

Both Cueto and Phillips deserved to get in over Uggla and Lynn, respectively. It is plain to see that LaRussa still holds a grudge regarding the words spoken by Phillips and the ensuing actions taken by Cueto in the fight. Cueto, as I understand it, is starting the game before the All Star break, so he wouldn't have been eligible to pitch anyway; still he should have been selected and replaced. Just as you say, it is better that they both are not there as it truly gives them a chance to rest for the 2nd half. I don't want Chapman to pitch either because it is likely he will try to light up the radar gun and risk injury and/or screw up his mechanics.

Jim Day said it best that the best way to avoid these types of snubbs is to go out and win the World Series so Baker will have the final decision.

EDIT: Cueto apparently is not too happy, per John Fay:

“I see that I have great numbers,” he said. “I thought the way I pitched this year, I’d have a chance to go to the All-Star Game. I don’t know what happened. I don’t know if the manager of All-Star Game is pissed at me because I went out with one of his girlfriends. I don’t know if they base their selection on the brawl,” he said. “That’s not the way it should be. . . They should pick and choose players by their numbers.”

Let that rage come out against the Cards.

As for Phillips, it was Altuve chosen over him, and that came from player/manager/coaches votes (of course LaRussa could have taken Phillips over Desmond, but Desmond is an extra SS which is normally more valuable). Same thing with Lynn. LaRussa chose Papelbon, Hamels, Kershaw, Miley, and Huston Street (someone from SD and Arizona had to be picked to that was the reason for Miley and Street).

I forgot the players, coaches, and managers pick the initial backups. I do have to wonder when they vote though. It appears some of them were voting in early June which is why Chapman and Lynn are on the team, and Phillips is not. That process needs to be cleared up.

It's pretty sad that I watched the first inning and nothing since. I fully expect them to get no hit. That is how sad this offense can be, especially without Votto. So far through 4 they are meeting my expectations. Freaking miracle they will split with the Giants. At least they will leave San Fran in 1st place which is a minor victory.

Ludwick single, Frazier homerun, 2-1 good guys.

Too bad Arroyo can't keep one of the most worthless muther fuckers in baseball off the bases. Ryan Theriot, a guy who can barely get it out of the infield, has been on base 3 times and scored twice. How anyone lets that fuckstick get on base mutiple times and score twice baffles me. Teams should just play the guy like a tee ball hitter. Play the outfield about 100 feet from the plate and the infield about 50 feet away. Throw the ball right of the middle of plate every pitch. He might get a base hit once out of every 50 at bats. Asshole would quit the game.
