Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

I have ZERO problem with Rolen on the bench and playing defense late in games. The guy is just old and is a shell of his former self. No shame in going out with class imo. Problem is, Dusty would try to play him day in and day out.

Great win Reds. 4 in a row baby!!!

I've been very impressed with Zach Cozart. His average isnt stellar but he is just a rookie. He has surprising power and his fielding is fantastic. Does anyone else see a young Nomar in Zach or even a young Jeter? I'm trying to compare him to the other really good SS I've watched over the last decade or so and those two come to mind for me. I don't think he's like Larkin but the other two are pretty similar in my opinion. Thoughts?

I don't think Cozart will come to close to Jeter and Nomar. Nomar/Jeter consistently hit in the .320-.340 range during their prime. Unfortunately Cozart is already 26 and will probably never reach those numbers. I see him more as a .270-.290 hitter, with 10-15 HR power. In terms of fielding he is above-average, who will make all the routine plays. If he can do this I see him as a very good player for the Reds, but obviously not quite on the level of Jeter and Nomar.

Well, the first thing he has to do is win ROY to be on a good pace. Let's see how he does. I think his power numbers will be higher than Jeter and his fielding will beat them both in the end, barring injury or too many years with Duhsty.

He is no where near the top of the NL rookie of the year race.

BTW...guess who is. His name rhymes with Shonder Malonzo.

That was fun. Holy Grail was great for pregame, just as I expected. Waitresses in tight black pants - very good eye candy. :yow2:

Had the prime rib sandwich from Mr. Red's Smokehouse inside the ballpark, which was half cover fat and way overpriced. I'll stick to Penn Station next time.

Ended up sitting in front of some chickenshit Cardinals fan who was talking shit the entire game, but saying out of the other side of his mouth that he didn't care who won. If you're going to talk shit like he did, at least sack up say that you're there to hate/troll/heckle instead of pretending to be "neutral". Dude also spent the entire 6th inning saying how he thought Joey Votto is gay. Given that he was a Cardinals fan and also said that he's retired Navy, I'm amazed that his gaydar was that far off.

The home runs were nice, and I was pleasantly surprised by Mat Latos' performance. Bourn's home runs didn't bother me at all. That was probably the best game that guy will ever play, and he drove in just two runs.

The most disappointing thing about the night was getting in my car on the way home, turning on the radio to listen to the postgame and finding out that the Frisch's Big Boy Big Play of the Game was called by Jeff Brantley. :(
