Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

no, Gordon was halfway down the line before he ran, no way Cairo was getting him..if Homer looks back, Gordon would have to go back to 3rd

He was no where near half way. He actually retreated some. If Homer looks to third Gordon would just stare at him flipping him the bird. Gordon stuck with the third baseman. Looking at him would have done nothing.

at least none of this really matters. I would even be fine if they end up 3rd in the overall standings. First would be nice and all, but that bullshit setup in the first round sucks.

I want the Reds finishing #2 since I think the Giants are the ideal open given Vogelsong is broken, Bumgarner has had one good start in his last six, and Lincecum is just a complete mess.

They're rolling into the postseason with Cain and Zito and not much else, and I doubt Zito gets a start in the postseason anyway.

Sandoval-Posey-Pence isn't exactly Murderer's Row either, at least compared to any other potential matchups the Reds could have.

which, if the Reds end up 3rd they will still get the Giants (unless Washington collapses). 3rd seed gets the first 2 games at home, and makes no difference for the next round over the 2nd seed.

So really you should be rooting for the Reds to lose and not get the 1st seed.

Think I'd rather have the 2 seed because if it gets to it, they'd have 3 at home, they rarely play well out west

For me, 6 of one, half dozen of the other. If this rotation is really set up for how they will pitch, then I like Cueto and Arroyo at home with Latos and Bailey on the road. The majority of series don't even go 5, but I suppose if it came to that a home game there would be nice. So both have benefits to me.

Yep.

Cain is the only Giants starter with a road ERA under 4 and the Reds have hit him well both times they faced him this year.

Giants staff home/road ERA splits;
Cain- 2.17/3.56
Bumgarner- 2.86/4.21
Vogelsong- 2.86/4.38
Lincecum- 3.67/6.46
Zito- 3.97/4.44

Their rotation currently goes Cain, Lincecum, Zito, Vogelsong, Bumgarner so you figure;

Game 1: @ SF Cueto vs Cain
Game 2: @ SF Arroyo vs Lincecum
Game 3: home Latos vs Zito
Game 4: home Bailey vs Vogelsong
Game 5: home Cueto vs Cain

Reds home/away

Cueto-2.8/2.86
Arroyo-3.83/3.49
Latos-3.29/4.07
Bailey-5.16/2.63

I would throw Cueto and Bailey at them in SF if we could juggle the rotation enough now. That leaves you Latos, Arroyo and Cueto again if need be at home.

I would just like to point out Mat Latos has a 1.67 ERA at ATT Park in 43 innings (6 starts). The only parks he has a better ERA are Turner Field and Tropicana, but that is only 2 starts and 1 start, respectively. That is why I like Bailey and Latos on the road.

I personally would go Latos, Bailey, Cueto, Arroyo, Latos. The only problem there is if it goes 5 and the Reds win, Bailey becomes a 2 time pitcher in the next series. Yet I definitely want Latos pitching twice vs. the Giants. He loves him some Giants (2nd best ERA of any team he has faced on a regular basis), and especially loves ATT Park. Of course Cueto is also good vs. the Giants, but he is not the same pitcher right now.

On the other hand Arroyo is rather mediocre at ATT but has made the Giants his bitch at home. Homer just sucks all around vs. the Giants, and Cueto (as mentioned) is good either at home or on the road vs. the Giants (although better at ATT).

They are skipping Leake so it looks like the Cueto/Arroyo/Latos rotation is pretty much set.

Not what I would do but it is what it is.

It beats the hell out of Game 1: Edinson Volquez.

I know it didn't end up mattering who the Reds ran out there for that game, but it still bugs me anyway.
