Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

You're 18 months too late, Walt.

Three first round selections and the guy who they gave up Josh Hamilton for. It's steep, but at least they're redundant players for the most part.

They'll still be shitty though.

Reds made a move

Reds Reds
Reds acquire SD?s Mat Latos for Yonder Alonso, Brad Boxberger, Yasmani Grandal and Edinson Volquez.

WTF! Let's just throw 2 of our best young up-and-comers for a guy with a decent ERA and a 9-14 record last season. :shake:

don't mind trading Alonso, kinda surprised with Grandal

I don't like either. Sure, it was either: they start SOON, or would need to be moved. But blowing your load on a pitcher who's average at best isn't the right move by any means. I hate this deal, and I'm beginning to hate everything the Reds do. Now we're a Votto departure away from a complete meltdown. If that happens, I'm not so sure I can root for baseball anymore.

He's good but that's a steep price.

Latos and Cueto are as good a TOR as we can hope for and the guys we gave up are redundant in our system.

Go fix LF for this season with someone not of the Tavaras mold and I can live with it but we are going to regret this when Votto walks.

I'm kind of shocked we didn't get any compensation for the amount of players we had to unload for Latos. He should solidify the SP rotation a bit more than Volquez could have ever hoped for, but I still hate getting rid of Grandal. I was hoping he would see some time in the Bigs this year.

disagree, Latos can be a TOR guy. he had a 2.9 ERA in 2010, he's not avg

Never judge a SP on starting record.

Latos is a TOR SP and now Reds have a great 1-2 combo with Cueto and him.

Career 3.37ERA 1.15WHIP. The year before he had a 2.92ERA 1.08WHIP. His career road stats 2.96ERA so he is not a product of the ballpark he pitches in.

If the Reds want to win now(and you have to with the core you have now) this is a trade you make. Reds control him for 4 more years also. Also have Cueto controlled. That means the 1-2 spot in the rotation looks very good now for next year and the future.

That might improve with the lack of fire-power in the NL Central this year. With Pujols gone, Braun suspended, Fielder on the move (maybe?). I just really, really hate getting rid of BOTH Grandal and Alonso. I'm fine with Alonso moving, but Grandal too?!

I forgot we have Mesoraco, so why not trade Grandal

Grandal was gonna be block by Mesoraco anyways if Mesoraco is the real deal like people believe.

The only thing I hate is trading him and Alonso in the same deal. I rather have used them in seprate trades to help the team since both are blocked by players already on Reds roster. But getting Latos is a huge positive for this team. The rotation just got a huge upgrade. Go out and upgrade LF or SS now.
