Can the winner of the wild card game play a team in its own division in the 1st round of the playoffs?
Yes...divisions don't matter anymore.

Wildcard 2 plays at Wildcard 1.

The winner plays the team with the best record in the league.

The other two teams play each other.

Right now St. Louis would play Atlanta, with the winner playing the Reds. The Giants would play the Nationals.

Also different this year, and just this year, is the format of the first round.

The Wild Card one game playoff winners, will play two games at home, and then play three games at the 1 seed.

The 3 seed will play two games at home, and then play three games at the 2 seed.

So the disadvantage of being the 1 or 2 seed this year, is that you have to play the first two games on the road. Whereas, before you would play the first two at home, and then game five at home. Obviously, if you end up winning one of those first two games, you seem to be in a great position.

I admit I skipped a few pages as in about 20, but..

fuck this team. Fuck. It's almost like they are so close to being good, but they can't quite completely wash the suck off. One of these years I do believe the dreaded Cincinnata franchise may blindly get a clue.

I repeat: This team fucking sucks

So, with a ton of off days coming up (the Reds don't play more than 6 games in a row until the last 9 games of the season), do the Reds start skipping starts or do you keep the rotation set?

Although it is nice that a series with Leake, Bailey, and Arroyo set to pitch happens to be the Stros. The other time it will happen this year is at the Cubs. Skipping anyone messes that up.

All that makes getting the #1 seed that much more important. If you're gonna face the disadvantage of having to go on the road for the first two games, it helps if the other team already had to use their ace.

Although, I suppose if that means you drop two in St. Louis and then have to come back home and sweep the rest and your Game 3 opponent is Adam Wainwright, you're pretty much fucked.

The way MLB shoehorned everything in this year is stupid.
