Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

I am fine with bringing in Chapman, especially vs. bringing in Broxton. A case could be made for keeping Cueto in, but it was a toss up. He was at 107 pitches and there were two runners on with his spot up in the batting order. Yet I in no way use Broxton when Chapman is available. You never save your closer for another day. You grab the win when it's there because you cannot assume the closer will be used again soon. The only time the closer should not be used is when he is too tired.

I see your point. However, holding Chapman back in the afternoon is not "saving him for another day". As you know, there are two games today and Chapman will not be used for both. To me, Chapman being unavailable in the evening is a bigger risk than using Broxton, Marshall or some other lesser arm with a 3-run lead in the afternoon. Oh well, hopefully the Reds stomp those fucking turds in the second game and make this argument moot.

I guess we can go back and forth, but who knows what the night will bring. Maybe the Cubs blow out the Reds. Now you haven't used Chapman in either game and possibly blew the first game by not using him.

BTW...you can change day to game in my first post. Saving him for the 2nd half of the doubleheader doesn't change the statement.

If it were a closer game or a different opponent, I might be inclined to agree. Oh well.

5 innings, 4 ER is my hope. Reds gotta swing the bats. Kinda like Ludwick just did.

Well, LeCure and Simon are well rested. I would hope now that he has only give up 1 run Dusty would not leave him out there to give up 3 more over the next 3 innings. He has 2 guys that can go 2 or 3 innings each on the bench who should be able to do better.

Although I suppose your scenario could play out if he gets to the 5th and gives up 3 (if he gives up 2 or more before the 5th Dusty better pull his ass). Yet I hope by that point Dusty has him on a short leash.

Agreed.

Any scoreless inning from here on out is a bonus. If he gives up a third run from here on out, pull him (unless these fucktard hitters pull their heads out of their rear ends and get him a cushion.)

Nice inning the Reds had going. Then the top of the lineup shows up. For most teams that is a good thing. For that Reds that is a rally killer.

They should send the bat boy out to plant a white flag in the batter's box when it's Stubbs' or Valdez's turn to bat. The flag might at least draw a few walks.

Wow. I had to go to my niece's 7th birthday this evening after the Reds first game, full of little kids and their parents. Halfway through I had to go in and see what this kid had on the mound. We nearly got thrown out of my sister's house in the 4th inning, my dad and I. Redmond might be worse than Eric Milton!! 5 walks and 7 hits in 3.3 innings is God awful. He's certainly not ready.

Looking back on this now I feel a bit cheated today. They basically just gave up a win in this second game by not pitching a major league level pitcher so that the rotation stays in order. I'm not sure I like this move. I get it they've been pitching well but I dont like basically giving up a game today.

Granted, if Redmond was good and pitched a lot better I'd feel better but he wasnt doing very good in AAA so it makes sense he wasnt going to pitch well tonight. 3 at bats left though and a miracle could change my mind. :)

This game would be tied if Simon and LeCure had done their jobs.
