Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Saw my first game in the new ballpark tonight, and it didn't disappoint. Leake was awesome, and pretty much everyone on the roster did something positive of note except Stubbs and Mesoraco. They had to account for five of Dickey's Ks..

Anyways, I came away really impressed with Cinci as a city too. That area is gorgeous, and right across the river near the aquarium is as well.

EDIT: I take away what I said about Stubbs, forgot he had a hit and scored. Also bunted over a runner in the first.

Just saw the replay of the Dickey/James Joyce conversation in the 2nd when Dickey had to cut off the bracelets his daughters had given him. According to the Reds clubhouse nobody on the Reds brought it up. What was hysterical from the replay just shown on ESPN was a close-up of Jay Bruce in the on-deck circle laughing at Dickey and clearly saying (lip-reading), "Dude, it wasn't me!"

Mets manager Terry Collins in the clubhouse afterwards, "I see they've started enforcing that rule 23 starts into the season..."

Personally, I thought it was bullshit. Those bracelets Dickey has been wearing all season were fucking rinky-dink. If Turk Wendell's shark-tooth necklace had been any bigger he'd have been Flava Flav, and he wore that thing for years, yet Joyce got in a tizzy over three strands of thread?

I absolutely agree. Its a slow day if I laugh out loud fewer than three times during a game. Brilliant stuff.

Stubbs steals 2nd? How'd he steal 1st?

You'd think Stubbs would slow down, take his time and enjoy his time on base.

Who knows when he'll be there again.

He would steal 3rd but he doesn't know where the fuck it is.

did this thread get shut down?? where are all the ledge jumpers??? did they all jump at once???

Naw, anyone could see this coming. Two out of three is about the best that can be expected with the way these guys hit. They beat Dickey, so losing this one was pretty much a forgone conclusion.

The best thing the Reds can do right now is pray for rain so Harvey gets pulled and the Reds can score on the Mets bullpen. Yet even then it's up to 5-0.

edit: My bad, 6-0 now.

So, any thoughts on what to do between games tomorrow? (Besides sneaking into the clubhouse and kidnapping Drew Stubbs.) I don't get down to Cincy very often....any good restaurant suggestions?

Over in Newport, Ky..just across the river there is a Hofbrauhaus. If you like beer..this is a good call...an extension of the real thing from Munich.

If you want to stay on the Ohio side and close to the stadium fountain square is pretty cool and has a bunch of restaurants close by that range in price.

Per Stark, one of those completely useless trivia items: While Jay Bruce won a game with a walkoff HR on Tuesday, Jimmy Rollins won a game with a leadoff HR that same evening -- the walkoff/leadoff HR pairing was the only scoring in either game. That had never happened on the same day before.

I plan on going to Holy Grail. It's the bar right across the street from the stadium/Reds HOF. Moerlein Lager House is good - it's also right next to the stadium and it's more of a gastropub/restaurant. The wait will be long at Moerlein's but there will be plenty of time to kill between games. Hofbrauhaus is good too, but it's kind of a hike from the stadium. There's a place called the In-Between Tavern that's on the other side of Fort Washington Way (I-71) from the stadium. It's closer than Hofbrauhaus, and close to where I park. I haven't been there before, but it seems a little lower-key and is my backup in case Holy Grail is too crowded or overrun with stupid Cubs fans. If you're willing to walk, there's also a lot of stuff near Fountain Square and the Aronoff Center.

You could also go to the Reds HOF if you haven't been there. It's worth it.
