Reds Tidbits (2012 Season)

Just have to comment that Homer Bailey looked as good as I have ever seen him tonight. Not only was he consistently hitting 97 mph(which is as hard as he has thrown since the playoff relief appearance), but he was commanding his stuff as well. His breaking stuff was also very sharp. Great effort after the shaky early start.

Also, the Dodgers are really poor defensively.

Homer just has to keep his head down and keep plugging along. Over the last month he's looked good. He might even get to 12 or 13 wins this season. After his start, I'd definitely take that.

Good to see the rooks doing well. Frazier is up near .280 now. Next year he and Cozart should be pushing .300.

No change in the standings, thank God. One at a time boys. One at a time.

Billy Hamilton swiped his 100th base of the season last night in Bakersfield. Now at 100 SB in 78 games!

Pretty soon they'll be doing "Legend of Billy Hamilton" Internet threads. Fay tweeted a couple days ago that Hamilton tagged up and scored from third on a popout to 2B.

They need to be teaching him to play CF.

Random thoughts from last night;

-Stubbs is beyond awful
-Homer is throwing low strikes. He's still hittable as shit when he gets too much of the plate but in big ball parks against weak lineups like LA he's fine.
-I hope Cozart is ok
-I really hope Votto is ok
-Fuck LaRussa and the WB's even more than normal
-What did Coffey do in the 8th to hurt himself? Pull a tit from all the running/jiggling?

If they can go .500 anytime Votto is out that's about all that can be hoped for.

Fuck Walt and his Drew Tavarasson CF legacy. Get somebody in there that can do more than just run fast motherfucker. It doesn't have to be Ty Cobb but JFC they can't be at the Mario Mendoza side of the spectrum either.

Billy Hamilton Steals 100th Base, Fascinates

By Grant Brisbee - Editor

Jul 3, 2012 - Earlier this year, I went to a San Jose Giants game with two Important Internet Baseball Writers. A few seconds after the game started, the leadoff hitter chopped a routine grounder to short. The shortstop didn't tarry. There weren't any juggles, bobbles, or double-clutches. The shortstop made a perfectly acceptable throw on this routine grounder. The runner beat it out.

The best part: I had no idea who the runner was. Thought he was just some guy. Ol' Minor-League Pete, hustlin' for his supper. As such, my brain had difficulty processing what just happened. Routine grounder. Very, very routine. The shortstop came in about five steps. In another situation, it could have been a double play. Yet with this guy, it was a single. Huh. That's odd, I thought. Are the bases shorter in minor-leag ... no, no, that's a stupid thought.

Only when the Important Internet Baseball Writers started making a big deal about the runner's lead, and the pitcher's futile attempts to keep him close, did I realize that I was a moron who was missing the Billy Hamilton show. I could appreciate it in retrospect, but I regretted not knowing that Hamilton was the hitter when the ball came off the bat. I would have loved to see the ball bounce innocuously to short so I could think, "There's no way he beats this out, right?" Alas, I missed my chance. You only get a few of those sorts of experiences.

He did it again in the fourth inning. Exact same thing.

Cont'd ...

Carpenter done for the year

http://espn.go.com/mlb/story/_/id/8...louis-cardinals-undergo-season-ending-surgery

The 37-year-old Carpenter has been told the surgery to relieve compressed nerves in the shoulder could allow him to resume his career, although there are no guarantees. The procedure involves removing the first rib and connecting muscles, and cleaning out scar tissue.

I believe the rest is from Genesis 2:22

"Then the Lord God made a whiney bitch from the rib he had taken out of the man"
