My question is this;

How in the name of blue fucking hell do we break spring training camp not knowing Masset can't locate a pitch again or better yet, that Chapman can't pitch on back to back days?

How the fuck does this not come up?

Maloney back to AAA is an easy one. Now you have one more to send down. Personally, I send Leake to AAA. I would put Bailey and Cueto in the rotation and put LeCure in the long relief role. Don't forget that the Reds also have Dontrelle Willis in AAA who just threw 6 shut out innings too. You could put him in long relief, and send LeCure back to AAA in order to keep pitching in a starting role.

I've got a new plan:

Chapman & Maloney to Louisville, Masset to the DL.

Bailey & Cueto to the rotation, LeCure and Willis to the bullpen.

The main snag with this series of moves is, I believe Willis was signed to a minor league contract, so wouldn't they need to make a spot for him on the 40-man roster?

I'm done with this Chapman to the bullpen deal. He doesn't have the capacity to pitch on back-to-back days, and having now pitched on 4 of the last 5 nights Dusty can't be trusted to not overuse him.

Herrera is still on the 40 man. Waive his ass. If someone picks him up, good luck. He is 26 with little to no MLB future.

As for Masset to the DL, unless he is actually hurt, you run into lots of issues there. The players union doesn't like that crap, and neither do players. It's one thing for a guy like Volquez who just came off Tommy John. Yet for a guy with no health issues at all in recent years, you simply can't do that.

I am not about to go crazy with moves right now.

Yep, and then he manages for innings that never come. While none of us are Cordero fans, he is still better than Masset right now. Send him out there for the 9th and 10th. If it goes to 11, so be it. Let Bray pitch, then let Maloney pitch if it goes 13+. You can't manage like the game is going to go 15 innings. Of course I still don't know the thinking behind pulling Smith. It's not like they needed to use a pinch hitter the inning before, and he was the most rested arm not named Maloney.

I know it's not kosher, but my impression is that it's something that happens across the league to some degree. That, or maybe I just read too many people on RZ suggesting that it goes on that it has warped my view of precisely how much that kind of thing actually takes place.
