Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Not a bad combo defensively either. According to the graphic on TV today they led the league last year in fewest passed balls allowed and were third in preventing SBs.

9 of 12 with 5R, 3HR, 7RBI, a BB, and 0Ks is a pretty good start to the season.

I don't know, I saw Hanigan clog the bases a couple of times.

Then again, SS bats 8th so where else can Dusty have him hit?

Turnstile numbers from Fay:

I think the biggest thing we can take away from the weekend series is the Reds are trending extremely well at the box office. Opening Day was a sellout, of course. It always is.

But the Reds did significantly better than last year in Games 2 and 3. They drew 37,967 Saturday - up about 9,500 from Game 2 in 2010. Sunday, the Reds drew 24,805, more than 11,000 higher than Game 3 in 2010.

Saturday's crowd shocked me. Going head-to-head with Kentucky in the Final Four is the epitome of bad timing, but nearly 38,000 showed up anyway.

The Reds drew 105,170 for the weekend - up 21,100 from the opening series last year. It's some apples and oranges as far as comparing. This year, the second and third games were on Saturday and Sunday. Last year, they were on Wednesday and Thursday.

But last year, the opening series was with the Cardinals and there was no conflict with the Final Four on Opening Night.

While that is great, he really should compare the Saturday and Sunday games to the first Saturday and Sunday games last year. Those games last year were both around 27,000. So the game 2 attendance was a nice bump (last year was a day game, so a little different), but the Sunday game was actually less than last year. Of course last year it was the Cubs and they always have a nice following show up at GABP.

Don't remind me. I hate those fuckers.

Good lord, of maybe 10 people that I would count among the closest childhood friends I've ever had or still have in my lifetime, 3 of those 10 are Cubs fans, and all three were not only born and raised in Central Ohio, but don't have any immediate family with any ties to Chicago either.

WGN and Turner brainwashed half the country with cable TV in the 80s to be Cubs or Braves fans, I think.

(And if you're reading this, Mark, Karl, or Benjy, fuck your Cubs!)

I didn't really realize this, but the Reds have now beaten the Brewers 11 out of the last 12 games at GABP. The one loss was the extra innings game last year at the end of the season. Overall, the Reds are 18-3 vs. the Brewers in the last 21 games against them.
