Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Run support is freaking awful! Come on make a damn move already. This is getting ridiculous. Starting pitching has been awesome and there's no way they are going to keep this up.

Moves rarely get made in June. You will have to wait until July or they will way overpay for anyone that is available.

SS and LF are still issues, yet nothing will be done right now.

Plus, as I stated, the Reds simply are not good interleague. It's either the organizations lack of MLB scouting, or the team not using that scouting. A new player won't change that.

I too would like to see something, but it won't happen right now. On top of that, this team is up against it budget wise. It will be tough to find anyone worth a damn for a decent price.

If anything they need to give Cozart a look. SS hitting is dreadful, and Renteria is not even that good defensively. Yet the team is scared to waive Renteria since there is no going back if they do that.

Just because they dont usually happen, doesnt mean that they shouldnt. We have plenty of people to look at and shake things up before we go buying or selling. The Status Quo is dogshit. The pitching wont hold this course long and if they dont make some kind of move to shake things up a bit the regression to the norm will be devastating. The Reds have about 2.5 hitters to work around on any given night in the order. Way too easy for an opposing pitcher to have his best game and cause our guys on the mound to try and be perfect. I will date this post and come back to it when things have changed but right now I doubt I'll like the comparison.

The status quo is the status quo for a reason. It's not like there is some gentlemen's agreement not to make a trade. Too many teams still think they are in the race, and the ones willing to deal will be asking for a very high price. They are in no hurry to deal a player right now, so they will continue to ask for as much as they can. It takes a deadline to push these types of deals, and as that deadline approaches more teams will realize they are no longer in the pennant race. Hence why there is a flurry of deals in mid to late July. It's just the way things work. The Reds would be forced to way overpay for a player they could have in 1 month for a much lower price. 1 player for 1 month will rarely add an extra win, but the Reds would be forced to give up much more.

Be patient. In 3 or 4 weeks you can see what is out there. Yet right now is a horrible time to be a buyer. No point clamoring for something that simply will not happen.

The situation seems pretty simple to me. The Reds have cheap in house answers to at least try in LF and SS. No need to go trading for anyone at either spot. Reyes is a fucking pipe dream.

The critical need is TOR, a true ace. They don't have it, there aren't any for sale and they couldn't afford it if there were. The failure to progress, or flat out regression, of Volquez, Cueto, Bailey is the death knell for this franchise to ever be anything more than slightly competitive because there isn't anything even resembling an answer to the TOR problem in the high minors.

We needed one or more of them to step up. They all suck dick. End of story.

Wake me in another 10 years when the law of averages puts another decent product on the field.

I don't disagree, and like I stated, I would like to see Cozart given a chance at SS. Of course, in order to do that, it would probably mean sending Janish to AAA. The front office's big fear is if they release Renteria, then they are banking on Cozart working and no one getting hurt. They simply are not ready to do that yet.

As for LF, that one also means Heisey gets send down or they DFA Gomes. Same situation.

On top of all that, you have a manager that likes vets. Lewis would get play over Alonso, and Renteria would get play over Cozart.

I personally would give Cozart a shot. He would be as good and probably better than Renteria in the field, and it would be hard to be worse at the plate. At least he has some pop. Renteria showed today that when he gets into one the best he can do is reach the warning track.

I would like to see Alonso in left, but I can see being wary of his fielding. I am actually happier right now with LF. Dusty is finally using more of a rotation based on matchups, and things are getting better. Alonso still has things to learn, so staying in AAA for now is not that bad. Yet Cozart really doesn't have much else to prove, and will soon be 26.
