Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

Padres 5 - Angry Birds 3 FINAL

I keep seeing "Angry Birds" on RedzZone. I like it.

Pooholes went 0-5 with three double plays.

Last year it was Carp and Wain and pray for rain. They were especially screwed when they lost with their aces going. Well, now they've lost with Crapenter on the mound, and there's no Wainwright behind him. If the Cards have a rough start and the Reds take care of business the rest of the weekend, they can get a jump on the division.

3 double plays is an opening day record.

at least we know he doesn't cork his bat. His last double play splintered his bat in half (long ways). Every time I see that I flashback to the Sammy Sosa corked bat.

I'd claim the W based on the fact I drafted Pujols #1 overall in our BP Fantasy League this year, which means the hex is on, but I got Gregerson and Bell too and they did OK for me in this one.

These are always fun to look at... the win expectancy chart from Fangraphs for the game:

MLBs worst promotions of 2011, by DJ Gallo.

http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/page2/story?page=gallo/110331_MLB_promotions&sportCat=mlb

Saw this and it made me chuckle:

Tweeting Tuesdays (Blue Jays, April 5)
Every Tuesday home game during the season the Blue Jays have scheduled Tweeting Tuesdays in which "fans and @bluejays followers will have the opportunity to interact and communicate with the Blue Jays and other Blue Jays fans while watching the game."

Interacting and communicating with the Blue Jays during games sounds like an ambitious and creative idea. And also a terrible idea. Does this mean fans can really contact the players during a game? I can't even imagine what players might get tweeted at them after a strikeout if Tweeting Tuesdays existed in New York or Philadelphia. Maybe the Blue Jays just think Canadians are too polite. Let's hope they're right.

"@JoseBautista Good try on those three swings. You did your best and I will continue to support you!"

"@EdwinEncarnacion Bummer on that E5! I WISH my arm was strong enough to throw it 6 rows into the stands! Would be neat if you reached me in the upper deck!"

Mods - if it isn't appropriate for me to post this in this thread - please delete immediately. Not sure where else to put it though :(

--------------

I have two dugout level tickets for sale for Sunday's game against the Brew Crew. Tickets are behind the visitors dugout and retail for $55/ticket. I also have a parking pass for Lot 2 reserved parking by US bank arena.

I'm interested in a "less than face" value offer for the tickets, cash only.
The kicker is, I need you to pick them up tonight as I'll be back in Atlanta all weekend and can't arrange a saturday drop off.

Shoot me a PM if interested. Make me an offer.

Edmonds with some quotes on 590 KFNS "The Fan" in St Louis re: his time with Reds:

http://www.700wlw.com/pages/lancesBlog.html

*On his lingering foot injury and not being able to go to spring training with St Louis:
"Awful, it's still awful. I still can't do so many things I want to do. It's really frustrating. I don't know the right words to use towards the Cincinnati doctors. I'm in a situation I thought I'd never be in this situation. I can't walk and I chase my kids around. It's not healing. Surgery is the option right now. That would be a year rehab. I'm not looking forward to that. I still think I can play.

*On the trade from Milwaukee to Cincinnati:
"I think I left Milwaukee hitting .295. I was driving the ball more and really playing more. The worst thing I did was accept that trade for Walt (Jocketty)...I should have shut it down and went home...I'd be healthy right now and probably playing." (He was playing hurt while in Milwaukee).

*On the Reds this year and last year:
"They are still pretty young. I kind of a had a feeling that playoff experience was going to play out the way it did. They didn't seem like they were ready last year. It's a different monster when you get in the playoffs. You need some veterans and guys that really step up.....and you need to be ready to play. You see they weren't.....They were really young and really naive. I hope for their sake that helps them a little bit."

*On the makeup of Reds:
"They have a bunch of good guys...other than that one situation (fight w/Cards) and that one player (Phillips).
It's a really young, nice group of guys. It put a black eye on therest of the rivalry. They are all pretty good. I kind of looked at like my Cubs experience.....I went in thinking God these guys are gonna be a pain....but they are all actually pretty good except that one guy. There are a few guys that have chips on their shoulders. Overall, the 1B, their young CF, their young RF are great guys. Their LF Johnny Gomes I think is very misread. Obviously Scotty is over there and their catcher is pretty good. And they have some good backups. I don't know they are as talented as we would be in St Louis...but that's why they play 162 games.
