Reds Tidbits (2011 Season)

anyone out there that we could pick up?

Folks on RZ today have started to talk about trading for David Wright as a possibility since the Mets aren't going to contend and are a mess financially.

Disregarding for a moment the implausibility of being able to strike that kind of deal in the first place, I just don't think the Reds organization would do Scott Rolen like that. Even if moving into a secondary role would be best for the team and his health, I don't see the organization paying him back like that after he did them a favor by restructuring his contract.

Jose Reyes might be another guy the Mets would look to dump. Getting a guy like him would upgrade SS slightly offensively, and allow them to move Stubbs down to 7th or so in the lineup where he seems to be more comfortable.

I was just about to pose this as a question, and I can't believe dusty actually did it, BP is hitting 4th tonight, I like it just because it's different.

Stubbs 8
Bruce 8
Votto 3,
Phillips 4,
Gomes 7,
Cairo 5,
Hanigsn 2,
Janish 6,
Arroyo 1

I like trying something different and giving Votto some protection.

I'm concerned about 3 straight tall white guys leading off. I mean sure, it may not be a big issue tonight in Milwaukee but what about a hot day game? White guys can't handle the sun like black guys can and you'd have the top of the lineup wilting from the heat and clogging the bases. I just don't think this is a lineup you can run out there every day but Dusty thinks about things like this so I'm sure this may just be his night lineup and the day lineup will spread the whites around some.

I guess Votto will be hitting with no one on base tonight.

I guess the train of thought is if you put Bruce in front of Votto he'll get better pitches etc etc etc.

Problem is other teams scout the Reds and it only takes a mouse click to see Bruce has an O-swing rate north of 38%. I'm sure sophisticated MLB video scouting will show the same thing.

Opponents aren't just going to pump fastballs down the middle because Votto is on deck to a guy that will swing at any fucking thing you toss in the general vicinity of the plate.

Video will also show Bruce's refusal to hit the ball to LF. You would think someone would tell him to take the ball the other way when being pitched on the outside corner. He tries to pull the outside pitch and pops it up every time. I cant say I'm all that surprised by no one ever mentioning that to him seeing who the Reds hitting coach is.
