What the motherfuck. Reds up 10-3 when I left the office. About 9, I mention that I should check ESPN to "make sure the Reds didn't do something stupid." See that the Pie-rats are up on the Cards. Do a little dance. See that the Braves successfully blew a 9-run lead. Laugh. See the final score of the Reds game. Smash my head through the storm door.

Going back over the box scores from the trip this morning and see the Reds gave up a total of 63 runs on the road trip (a team ERA of 7.77) yet still went 6-3. They left Cincinnati with a 1 game lead in the division, and returned home with a 3-1/2 game lead.

I don't know about anybody else, but I'm not too proud to care whether or not this team backs into the playoffs. :cheers:

I'm not even worried about the playoffs. After the last 10 years, I'm just happy they're playing meaningful games in August.

Interesting. Jocketty had said that Owings wants to be a starter, and wants to go to a team that'll give him a shot if it's not going to be Cincy. On the one hand it's gotta be disappointing to find out that nobody else wants you. On the other hand, after what went down in the last five games, he could stumble back into a role with the big club when the rosters expand. I liked what he brought out of the bullpen at the beginning of the season, but then he was allowed to sit in the 'pen and collect dust. When he was finally called upon again, he was ineffective. I still think he could contribute in a small way if they could figure out how to use him.

Well, I almost forgot the Nats are terrible. They quickly reminded me.

4-3 Cardinals, bases loaded, 1 out.

BTW....from watching the Cards a lot recently, Pedro Feliz has to be one of the luckiest hitters in baseball the last week. Almost every single hit seems like a grounder through the infield or a bloop hit. I have seen him hit the ball hard once since joining the Cards.
