Thursday, November 1, 2007 3:57 AM
From staff and wire reports
The Cincinnati Reds answered a $13 million question yesterday by exercising the contract option on Adam Dunn.
Dunn batted .264 in his fourth consecutive 40-home run season. He also led the Reds with 106 RBI, scored 101 runs and drew 101 walks. Dunn, who turns 28 on Nov. 9, may or may not have heard the news. According to a team spokesman, he is on a fishing trip and out of cell phone range until next week.

Dunn still has plenty to prove
But he's a keeper
BY PAUL DAUGHERTY | [email protected]
The Big Donkey was out of touch, gone fishin', casting his line with Matt Belisle and Tom Hume somewhere in the bayous of Louisiana. Maybe he'd heard the Reds had picked up the option year of his contract, maybe he hadn't. Thirteen million dollars, cash money.
Easy come, easy go.
Adam Dunn delights and infuriates, often at once. Outwardly, he owns the sort of Type-Z personality most of us could benefit from. Gone fishin' isn't just an expression with Dunn. It's more like a motto. He's pleasant and funny and, outwardly, takes himself as seriously as a can of Silly String. All good.

Three Florida complexes are going to be vacant soon: Vero Beach will open after this spring because the Dodgers are moving to Arizona; the Devil Rays are moving from St. Petersburg to Port Charlotte; and the Indians are moving from Winter Haven to Arizona.
Orlando and Lee County (Fort Myers) are considering adding teams.
Arizona is the other possibility. Cities have tried to woo teams from Florida over the years. The town of Goodyear is building the Indians a $75 million complex.
The biggest factor working against going to Arizona is the increased travel time for Cincinnati-area fans.

CINCINNATI -- When John Allen was handed control of the Cincinnati Reds in 1996, suspended owner Marge Schott referred to him as her bookkeeper. In short time, he proved he wouldn't be her caretaker.
Overnight, Allen went from anonymous controller to the most powerful person in baseball's first professional franchise, guiding it through some of its darkest times. He took the team in a different direction, restored ties with fans and rebuilt a farm system that had been ignored.
