I thought that was something that was supposedely in the works a while back - a "news" forum, and a "speculation & discussion" forum?

Personally, I think this thread would be just fine in the recruiting forum. I think the organization and subdivision of this site is almost reaching the point where related information is becoming scattered. The reason for the guidelines in the recruiting forums (I thought) was to:

A.) Keep Joe Messageboard from constantly chiming in with "gut feelings" and other garbage posts

B.) Make it so that when a new post appears on a recruit's thread, everyone who sees that knows that there is news - not just somebody saying, "Come on down!" or something like that.

I think posts like this - a good and relevant topic have a place on the recruiting board and should be considered just as welcome as any of the other posts there.

Personally, I think a post like this is better than some of the "news" that gets posted there. I don't mean to disparage the people who put tons of time into digging stuff up, but I think it's kinda crazy to see posts that say "Joe Recruit is in the Rivals top 100" - and nothing more, while a post like this one discussing much larger topics in recruiting seem to be discouraged a bit.

As for your actual topic - that is a very interesting cicumstance. I wonder if it is an anomoly or if it is the start or continuation of a trend. I wonder how much pressure coaches are putting on QBs to sort of "quarterback the recruting class" - to get on board early and then start rallying other interested prospects to join them. We all saw what kind of effect Zwick had on the OSU 2002 class and Sanchez had on last year's USC class.

On another topic, I was hesitant to post this in the recruiting board because the organization there is focued so strongly on individual players, not gerenal recruiting topics. But this is clearly about recruiting. Do we need yet another recruiting board for discussion of general recruiting topics?
I would hope generalized recruiting topics are welcomed...

The individual threads recive the most attention but are certainly not the only part of the forum.

I cannot remember a single instance of any type of article concerning recruiting ever being discouraged at all...

I didn't mean that anything was being openly discouraged, but I think the fact that Oh8ch felt the need to add the part about being hesitant to post it in the recruiting forum is evidence that some people feel that there is a little bit of a climate in that forum that discourages it.

I'm not saying I have the answers on this either (despite the amount of bitching I do on this topic :)) The recruiting forum is top notch, and if a little hesitation is the price we pay to keep it that way, then it might be worth it.

Topics aren't discouraged per se, but it is kind of like when I go to a really nice party and look in the door and see how nicely everyone is dressed and know that once I walk in that all changes.

I look at the recruiting forum and there are all these threads about players and my topic just seems to be out of place.

That said, one could also argue that our approach begs for a general recruiting forum. We have 2004 and 2005 and the current thread is really 2006. Why not call it that, put all the player threads there and open a 'general recruiting discussion' forum?

Of course, I already know the answer to that question, which is that folks will post info on individual players in the general recruiting forum and someone will have to police that. Just thinking out loud.

Finally, I also agree with the current player threads. Maybe someone could do a current roster with individual player threads linked to a database like Mili's. I certainly do not have the knowledge to create such a project, but I do know that some folks around here would enjoy such an endeavor.

That is an awesome idea. I would offer up my schollie table as a potential driver. That has kids by class and includes casualties and commits - which would not appear on a roster. I am not, however, voluntaring to do the work. Too dumb (which is painful to admit since contrary to my post in the 'what do you do thread' that I am a Fluffer for Wicked I am actually a retired SW Engineer).

And my final comment - you guys who manage recruiting do an awesome job. Thanks.

Personally, I like being able to sift through a thread an find where a kid has been ranked throughout the course of the process. maybe we should just add that kind of info to the frist post of the thread...sort of like adding it to the standardized opening post like jwinslow was talking about. We could keep a recuit's ranking current in the 1st post as well as what schools he is interested in.

Agreed, the recruiting forum is what makes BP standout (the rest is just icing on top).

I think the recruiting forum should stay as is, b/c very few threads require moving now vs. lots of threads would need moving if we had a general discusison one as the main recruiting forum. Why not add a general recruit discussion forum as a subforum like the 04/05 forums? That would let people sound off with more freedom, and not mess with the current individual threads as much.

True...good point, but I would hope it is not the climate, but more of what OH8 described. Hell, I love the generalized topics...the rankings, trends, etc.

While we're talking recruiting forums, I have a suggestion....

Last year Buckskins did the weekly game updates in a blog. I think each week, we should make a thread with game results from that week. Maybe mods can keep it tacked to the top for that week. This way, anyone who goes to a game or finds results online can post them in there. It should make for a very organized weekly recap and we won't have a million "I saw ________ in action tonight."

Ok, with apologies to LJB who has not not voted, we decided on a compromise on the issue since both sides have valid positions. OOS prospects will be closed once tOSU is eliminated, but all In-State kids will remain open. As we have followed these kids, a sort of bond is formed. For instance, I enjoy following Arvell Nelson and would like to continue his thread. Also, news, such as the Mixon injury last week is important to tOSU even though he is not a Buckeye.

Is this agreeable with everyone?

Just to throw this out there and turn this thread into a clusterfuck of ideas.....Should there be a forum of current buckeyes? Posting articles about Ted Ginn in his recruiting thread seem silly. Should they be moved into the Current Buckeyes forum once they commit?
