Since our good friend NDChief is on a short timeout, but is lurking, reading, and probably posting under an alias by now, we shall honor him with a list of reasons we hate ND...

Yes there is already a thread somewhere, but this one is just for Chief...and I was DOUBLE-DOG DARED to start this one :)

I hate ND because their SAT scores and SOS are broken record diversions for their mediocrity in the past decade

I hate ND because anybody that you meet who is Irish and Catholic has to be a Notre Dame fan...as if thats some rule. If there was a team whos mascot was the fighting white decendants from pilgrims I wouldnt be their fan.

(wheres ND? better yet....wheres the thread?)

After watching Notre Dame beat Bama after the '73 season in the Orange Bowl, 24-23 and then after the '74 season in the Sugar Bowl, 13-11, I did not care much for them.
When Lou Holtz took the reigns, I looked at them with a more favorable light. I have to admit that I don't keep up with them much. It is really boring to see them on NBC. NBC would do alot better with their college football if they would get out of that contract, my opinion.

<center>Sissy Sons of Notre Dame,
Sing her glory and sound her shame
Paint her black and blue,
And sneer with voices true,
Hah! Hah! for Notre Dame.
We will lose in every game
Weak of heart and true to her shame.
We wish to forget her
And we'll cheer her never,
Spoils to Notre Dame.

CHORUS:
Queers Cheer for Notre Dame
Wake up the pansies cheering her name,
Send the volley cheer on high,
another blunder in our eye,
what though the odds be great or small
Old Notre Dame's the underdog to all,
While her loyal boys are prancing
Without a victory.

ND is just unbelievable. They hang their hat on history and PAST wins...bitch and brag that their schedule is so tough that they can't possibly win all their games...then enter into a TV contract that they are not going to get to keep unless they continue playing a tough schedule.

Just join the Big Ten so we can own you yearly, or stick your heads up Touch Down Jesus's ass and shut up.

Two of the biggest exploitations in the history of the sports were 1) Bill Veeck putting a midget into a baseball game and 2) Notre Dame using a Hunchback.

A bunch of arrogant has beens. And for the record - despite their claims to the contrary - neither I nor anyone I know has ever worked for a Notre Dame graduate.

All that said, I will make one exception and send out my love to the group of ND players who agreed to pose for that marvelous picture with Eddie George.

I don't hate ND, but if I did, it would be because the rules get changed for them. (See the BCS bowl eligibility requirements regarding number of wins)

Wait! I'm as Irish and Catholic as they come and I hate ND...of course I used to like them when I was little, but I liked Ohio State better (kind of, I'll root for ND as long as the're not playing OSU) until all of my cousins informed me that I couldn't root for them if they weren't my absolute favorite, no matter what, bleed Irish blue and gold favorite team. Then out of spite for my 2nd favorite team rooting strategy, they endlessly bashed OSU and took every opportunity to point out not only why I should love ND, but hate Ohio State...

So I guess I just made yur point, and we pretty much hate them for the same reasons, but I am definitely the exception to the rule.

Hate is a bit much

No, can't say that hate sums up my thoughts. I can truly imagine the feelings of a true fan. Glory can't be regained by verbage, but we as fans somehow think that it may change the reality of the present. We're at the place where they want to be and naturally their fans rationize the situation by poor mouthing the tOSU and reliving the glory years. Just think how depressing it must be having to convince yourself that this just might be the year that Northern Indiana State University for the Beloved Brothers might have a winning season.

I'm fairly certain this is the first time I've ever seen Eddie Gaedel compared to Quasimodo.

Reasons to hate Notre Dame:

1. They have their own NBC contract.

2. They have 1 more Heisman than tOSU, due to media coverage back in the 40's, 50's, and early 60's that focused primarily on ND. Paul Hornung QB's a 2-8 team and wins a Heisman in 1956? Johnny Huarte wins in 1964? Please.

3. They cost us an NC in 1935, with a TD pass thrown by Bill Shakespeare. Here's a link if you don't know the story of that game.
http://www.nd.edu/~observer/09241999/Sports/1.html

4. "Touchdown Jesus".

5. They pray for victories, like God cares who wins a football game. Apparently, they haven't been praying enough since 1993, their last season that ended with a bowl victory.

6. "Play Like a Champion Today" sign above the stairs that the players hit on their way to the field.

7. Their Board of Directors, not the AD, fired Ty Willingham for not winning enough. And they pretend to act like they're different, like it's not all about winning and money.

8. "Win one for the Gipper" - Hollywood Bullshit that helped build the legend.

9. The Four Horsemen - Their Oct 18, 1924 trip to play Army in NYC initiated another Irish legend. Once the great sportswriter Grantland Rice penned the words "“Outlined against a blue, gray October sky the Four Horsemen rode again"; some slick ND student acting as a publicity aide had the 4 guys pose on top of horses. Another shitty legend was created.

10. The "Subway Alumni".

11. Paul Hornung's asinine comments about academic standards and the types of athletes they need to recruit.

12. As an independent with a large fan base, they get to pick and choose their bowl opponents. They won the NC in 1973, after we had the 10-10 tie in AA, and then smacked defending champion USC in the Rose Bowl; by defeating Bama by a point on a late field goal. In the first poll after the 10-10 tie, ND was 5th behind both tOSU and scUM.

13. Green uniforms. However, I was happy when they last wore them against BC in 2002.

14. The Golden Dome, and the helmets that resemble it.

15. The College Football Hall of Fame is now in South Bend, instead of Ohio, where it started and where it belongs.

16. Back in the 1930's, Catholic nuns would give children in the schools candy bars after Notre Dame victories. This was a manipulative way of creating young ND fans, similar to the way Ronald McDonald has been used. I got this story from relatives of mine who got those candy bars when they were kids.
