Violent Sport played by violent men with fans expecting violence.

Hmmm.....Safety is warranted. But where is the line between safety and overkill?

Athletes are bigger, faster and in my opinion somewhat less fundamental in tackling.

Helmets are now weapons as they have been for years.

I have a fixes for all of this:

Safer helmets.

Play on a sand field so no one runs too fast.

Spot the ball on the 25 yard line and no kickoff.

Two hand tag below the shoulder pads.

Bumper suits that inflate so contact is strictly limited.

Ok, lets just outlaw football as we know it and play Futbol instead.

Might want to make the ball a little less pointy too.

Should prolly put padding on the OUTSIDE of the helmet, they are still way to hard when they strike an opponent.

Also, look into start wearing soccer-style shin pads as well as a mandate every play wear full forearm padding.

Wow, pretty soon the NFL is gonna [censored]in' suck.

I'm a huge Browns fan but the league is really alienating people. I would probably be happy to see ratings down the [Mark May] hole.

No worries man, Im sure the Browns rating will be down this year just like the other years. lol :wink2:

Seriously though, there needs to be more outrage on the fans and players part to stop the NFL from their constant BS changes.

As someone that played both football and soccer, I love that it's soccer's fault. They are two very different sports that challenge a person in completely different ways. I would never try to act like soccer is a more violent hard hitting game but it does require far more endurance. If you don't think there is contact in soccer or that you can get injured go out and rip through a defense from the attacking midfield spot for a while and tell me how it feels when some bastard slide tackles you with his studs into your knee or thigh to try to take you out. Or go up for a 50/50 ball and throw all you momentum into it and have your head collide with another player going after the ball. These rules would be like making it so that the first person that jumped for a 50/50 ball had the right of way and no one was permitted to challenge after they jumped.

Ok, my defense of soccer is over you may now go back to blaming it for ruining everything America holds dear.

Sarcasm here? If so, the rest of your post screams "martyr"...

It isn't soccer's "fault" - and not one person will deny the potential injuries that can be associated with the game.

Between Soccer, Basketball, Football and Wrestling... Soccer isn't comparable to the latter 3. Maybe Basketball. I'm sorry, but as much as people would like to try and showcase just how much "running" a soccer player does (and they do) they also fail to point out the times when they aren't going full-bore and the ball isn't even on their side of the field.

If anything a 3 period match whistle to whistle in Wrestling with the match coming down to points/decision is by far the more exhausting of the 4.

You have a near insane blend of constant struggle and physicality.

That said. The two a days and conditioning for football alone make it far more about endurance then soccer ever will be. When you show me 300lb players in Europe doing some of the drills I see men in pads doing - I might be willing to concede my point.

Football at any level has implied/assumed risk. You getting paid hundred's of thousands upon millions of dollars at the professional level yet not willing to risk what thousands of men (who loved the game) before you did (for millions less) cheapens the past and future.

Do NFL players/owners have any concept many people in this country go to work everyday and do back-breaking type work on a daily basis? Work that will negatively effect their health in the long run, with longer hours, less pay and less benefits. Making a pittance compared to someone in pads playing a damn game.

In short. Suck it the fuck up.... I understand wanting to minimize injuries. But you people make more money then a handful of people will in their lifetimes combined. Quality of life deteriorates in due time for everyone - my humble suggestion, play as hard and as determined as you can for as long as you can.

There are many of us that would be willing to trade places with professional players to do something we love, getting paid millions of dollars and meanwhile not bitch about how "unsafe" it is.

Couldn't do much about the points, but this is what they are going with in 2011:

I don't know what all the fuss is about...I mean who doesn't want to see the AFC championship decided by Manning and Brady engaging in a good game of Tiddlywinks (of course Belichick is already figuring out how to change the colors of the winks and cheat as we speak, but that's neither here nor there).

Maybe a little in the second part, none in the first. I grew up playing soccer and it was always my best sport. More of my friends played football than soccer so I played it with them, I loved high school football. I played football in the fall went to enough practices to keep my spot in the traveling squad for spring soccer, way better level of play than high school soccer.

I would never attempt to say that I ever ran full out for a full 45 minutes, that would be a really stupid way to play soccer. I will say that after running two miles in a game that last chance sprint to score a goal in stoppage time can be as painful as the last few strides of a half marathon depending on what style of game has been played.

Basketball it is 100% comparable, maybe not if all you're judging it on is children that huddle around the ball forming a blob because they have no understanding of tactics.

I don't mean to be combative or come off like an asshole but the fact that you even stressed maybe baseball shows huge bias. Pitchers yes, a pitcher is going to be tired and likely hurt. I played shortstop and outfield when I played baseball and was never what I would consider exhausted during a game. Conditioning ok... never a game. Now I admit I gave up baseball more quickly than any other sport because I mainly played it for grandpa it was never my thing.

As far a wrestling, I'll defer to you as it was never a sport I went out for, if it was the toughest sport you ever played then I believe you.

The only sport we haven't mentioned is hockey, I loved hockey. Hockey is a very rough and tiring sport, also [censored]ed up my smile.
